The episode starts with the burning of a witch?
That's interesting...
I also liked the OST during the explanation in the first few minutes, actually the whole OST is brilliant.
As is the opening. The ending can't be bad either since it's from Stereo Dive Foundation (Although I haven't heard it yet)

Mecha and historical themes combined? Hmmmm...interesting....
The art style for the historical figures are surprising to me, especially Leonardo da Vinci >.<

This is genius. Pure genius.

I have no idea what's going but I LOVE IT! Confusion, confusion everywhere but I just want to keep watching more of it! I'd like it if there was some more explanation but right now, sign me up for this anime.

... Wow. This is looking to be one hell of a season already. So we have two planets ("Stars"), one with Western historical figures soon to be united by King Arthur, the other with Eastern historical figures torn by civil war. Both planets have giant mecha, and the more advanced Western planet has spaceships that can travel from one to the other. Add in reincarnation, tarot cards and some great seiyuus and you have one hell of a dynamic first episode. I am DEFINITELY going to be watching this, unless it takes a massively disappointing turn partway through.

Did anyone else have no idea what was happening? Show at least seems interesting which I can't really say for any other series that I've started watching this winter yet.

None of these people even lived in the same eras anyway. The character list also includes Julius Caesar and Alexander the Great. I mean, Jesus Christ (don't tell me he's making an appearance too), at least all the Japanese characters are from the Sengoku era (as far as I can tell).

That's not really true.

Most of the characters lived around 1400-1600

Jeanne D'Arc 1412-1431
Leonardo da Vinci 1452-1519
Ferdinand Magellan 1480-1521
Takeda Shingen 1521-1573
Akechi Mitsuhide 1526-1582
Uesugi Kenshin 1530-1578
Oda Nobunaga 1534-1582
Toyotomi Hideyoshi 1537-1598
Oda Nobukatsu 1558-1630

The only one that really doesn't fit in there is Caesar.

Eh, i'm feeling mixed about the show. The soundtrack and the voice acting are superb so far, and the story and setting does interest me. But the use of historical figures is gonna be hit or miss for me in the coming episodes. I personally don't know much about japanese history, but the names i do recognise and the whole Nobunaga being betrayed. Now what I do know is the whole western side of things (like most people here) and it just makes me worried if this show just uses names and makes characters just be there for the sake of it (the introduction of all those other characters just made me more confused)
Either way, i'll defo be checking this again next week >_<

Anyone know how many episodes this is gonna be?

I feel like this show would be a lot more interesting if instead of giant robots it had mystic weapons. The setting itself sounds alright so far, but the mecha element just doesn't fit whatsoever. I'll probably give it another 1-2 episodes before deciding whether or not to continue.

And of course Chihara Minori has to be part of the show. Every mecha show involves her in some form.

Damn, whenever i hear the voice of Takahiro Sakurai i got mixed up with Hikaru Midorikawa. and vice versa.

Kinda weird Jeanne d'Arc has a japanese middle name, while living in the "western" planet. and i got a feeling king Arthur is gonna be an antagonist on this one, with nobunaga saving western planet from him.

So, we've got characters from the time between King Arthur & Nobunaga/Magellan/Da Vinci (not fully sure about their years). Is that the max they'll take people form, or will they take from earlier/later ? And this can't be the max people they'll 'resurrect' into this new scenario, can it?

Also, I can understand why they would make the best mecha be something only the MC can activate, but how? And saying it's a plot device isn't enough.

Thoughts:
-I wanted to give each new anime of 2014 a shot, even the ones I don't like b/c it might end up being gud

0:00 not a fan of 'old age' anime… got bored right off the bat

3:11 should've started off with the girl first for the intro

3:36 yaoi??...lol……………………

10:06 weird horn dude… he has some guts

12:45; 16:46; 18:12 epic music playing here… starting to get sucked in

---------------
Overall:
1. Hate how the show started but gradually liked it as it went on

2. Seeing all that mecha makes their outfits seem super outdated. Interesting mix

3. Voice acting, graphics, and music are at high levels, especially the music. If it weren't for the music, I would've dropped it.

4. Story & characters feel super boring. I only care about the girl… maybe cuz im a guy lol.

5. I could tell right away just by looking at the main photo of this anime in MAL that I was not going to like this series just because of what it is (ya, it's my problem lol). But after watching the 1st episode, I did find some stuff I liked. I'll give it 2 more episodes before giving up on this series. 5/10

Very confusing... Anyone in a good mood to help me out sorting this out?

In the prologue we have the actual events in the normal history where they got a vision/glimpse of each other in the next world/life/afterlife before dying.

Now we have 2 planets. One western soon to be ruled completely by King Arthur and one eastern ruled by many feudal Japanese clans in constant war.

On these worlds we have "reincarnations?" of many historical figures from different timeframes which apparently don't have any memory of their originally world and their traditional national affiliation.

So Jeanne d'Arc influenced by voices in her head/god starts out on a quest again to seek the savior. Good in this setting it's not the king of France but a Japanese Guy, but at least it seems like they are going to fight eventually against the English/western world under King Arthur.

Did I miss something? The given explanations were quite vague/missing and I get the impression that they are simply recycling the names of historic persons with not much to it. Anyone a better interpretation?

Ok we have mechas mixed up with traditional weapons and spacecrafts... Very confusing but I don't know why it gives me the feeling that I want to know more. Curious to see how this all will fit together.

lol they came with the ship in the past and the come with a 'ship' in this world also.
if anything, it's not bad. mecha samurai? remind me of Omnimusha. :D
another oda nobunaga story. I guess he is kinda popular right in Japan. Not bad so far for ep. 1 I guess.

As others have said this series could be really awesome or a total flop. Mechas in such a historical setting is definitely different, I can see it being either spectacular or crap. Either way I will be keenly watching the coming episodes to see how it pans out.

So it's like the 1400's but not really it's also kinda the future and armies are fighting with swords and stuff still but they also have giant mech robot things and Leonardo Da Vinci is playing this giant tuba thing to a very well endowed Joan of Ark. She's possessed by a demon or something, but wait now they're in space with Magellan on some space ship thingy but still all dressed like it's the 1400's...Da Vinci and Magellan are both like "For King Arthur!" but then Joan of Ark hears a demon voice and Da Vinci is all like "fuck this let's steal a ship I gots a tazer."
Then the crash land so the main character can steal a giant lazer mecha thingy and the series begins.
Thanks anime.

Well i enjoyed the first episode, even though i'm not a huge fan of the mecha genre in general, i would rather have them fight with swords and guns by themselves, anyway i will continue to watch to see where this is going.

As someone said before it made me remeber the Brave 10. I hope it doesn't go that way and don't ruin the potential it has as Brave 10 did,
