I was watching a 3D hentai of Toradora! and I liked it a lot, so I looked it up thinking it was a hentai, then I started watching it.

The rest is history...

It started with reading the naruto manga, then discovering Sword Art Online by mistake. After watching that I was so helplessly hooked that there hasn't been 2 days in a row where I haven't watched anime since.

When I was about 13 I watched Naruto on TV, liked it, so I started reading the manga. Then, I watched Code Geass and some other anime, but I dind't like them that much (except for Code geass) so I stopped watching anime after that. Then I also stopped reading Naruto because I was fed up with the story.

About 4-5 years later I was bored, so I started playing a Yugioh video game and then watched some episodes of the newest anime. Then, I decided to rewatch Code Geass and after that I finished watching Death Note (which I left uncompleted for 5 years). Then I watched Steins;Gate and I was finally hooked.

Not so straightforward and not so interesting but that's how it happened.

I was playing an InuYasha hentai flash game and watched the anime thinking it was hentai. It was shit but I decided to watch Trigun on Netflix and it hooked me on anime.

Funny how similar our situations are.

Dragon Ball Z influenced my art style, but what really got me into anime were the shows that, dare I say, 4kids aired every Saturday like Yu-Gi-Oh!, Shaman King, Sonic X, and One Piece along with whatever adult swim aired that night too (Inuyasha is the only one that comes to mind).

In November 2011, I watched Cowboy Bebop; didn't like it. I then watched Death Note the same month; loved it. I really should've started watching anime seriously after checking out Death Note. But then I watched Fullmetal Alchemist; I didn't like it. Then watched Neon Genesis Evangelion; mixed feelings about it.

In 2012, I started watching One Piece; loved it, still catching up to it. I watched Berserk; liked it from episode 2; also watched the Golden Age Arc movies. Also watched Code Geass; had mixed feelings about it. Watched Samurai Champloo; loved it. Also watched Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex; didn't like it. Watched Trigun; liked it from episode 5.

So as you can see, I was only watching mainstream anime in 2011 and 2012, and they were hit-or-miss for me, and made me unsure if I wanted to delve deep into a wide range of anime or not. I was also watching anime reviews.

In early 2013, I watched Bakuman (a non-mainstream anime) because it was by the creators of Death Note; loved it. In late 2013, I wanted to check out anime adaptations of Weekly Shonen Jump manga (because Death Note, Dragon Ball, One Piece, Naruto and Bleach were all WSJ), so I started watching Rurouni Kenshin, YuYu Hakusho, and Hunter x Hunter (1999) around the same time. I'd say these 3 anime were the ones that made me get into anime seriously.

One of my friends was talking about this anime named Inuyasha, and I decided to give a try. Pretty weird to think that I got hooked to the medium back then , considering it was a decent show at best.

My ex wife and I used to stay up all night and eventually we started watching Bleach, Inuyasha, full Metal Alchemist, Fooly Cooly, and stuff like that.

We would go to the library and I found out about Manga, but with it being a library, they might have vol 1,2,4,6,7 of a particular Manga, so I had to expand and read bits and pieces of different ones instead of completing them. It lead to me to buy us our own Manga.

Then I realized that they had DVDs at the library and rented Ranma 1/2 and Beck, and we watched those, which lead me to buy more Anime. I gave it up for a while to get my life back together after we seperated but recently I've gotten back into it and have been watching complete series one after another whenever I get time.

My interest in anime first started in 2003, back when Fox had their Saturday morning "Fox Box" block and eventually expanded towards Toonami. Looking back on those times, there are quite a few series that I never fully completed or just lost interest in, namely Naruto, Zatch Bell, and Inuyasha.
Aside from those series, I remember getting early on Saturday mornings and waiting patiently for Sonic X and Kirby Right Back At Ya!.

But I think after Toonami croaked in 2008 and Naruto went off the air, I lost all of my interest in anime. Despite that fact, I never expected that I eventually would return to the medium in 2010 and get to the point where I am now. One of these days, I'm thinking of watching Naruto, even if it is just for nostalgia.

So how did you become interested in anime? Was it the result of Saturday morning blocks (like me)? Were you one of those people who was able to experience Toonami in its prime?
