I had a feeling that knowing someone would be useful; I know lots of people from Beijing and they all say similar things. I actually know a few survivor phrases in Mandarin, thanks to all the Chinese here. I recently saw a beautiful exhibition of Chinese artwork from the 18th century; it was somewhat influenced by the popular European style at the time and it created this unique blend. And the sheer size of the paintings was awesome! The court painters must have worked constantly, and in huge crowds painted on each face was individual. I've never seen anything like it.

I have a friend who studies Japanese culture at university and he might go live there at some point; he's my go-to expert on the matter although it's not the same as actually knowing someone from there. He's the guy who introduced me to anime actually...but he rarely watches it now, preferring weird movies like Ore Ore and Hana Bi.

Hm that experience in China is enviable, does that mean you speak a bit of Mandarin? I'm hoping to make a trip to Beijing after I graduate....Japan would probably be a bit more friendly though. Either way, those are two areas I really wanna see. Particularly the rural areas, for no other reason than curiosity. I think I know enough Japanese from watching anime to get by :) but my friend who's really into the culture told me a lot of anime-Japanese is informal and would be considered impolite to strangers.

Thing is, there was a massive footy game today and a lot of people were out and about, and everything is still pristine so I think it just fell out of his pocket. He has a credit card for a local bank so I'll drop it there and let them contact him; problem solved lol

Really? No help from welfare at all? Sorry but that's just not right. That would be infinitely more stressful than my two busy days. Hold onto those ambitions, I know from experience that they can easily get buried under that pesky thing called 'life'....anyway. It's cool that you've been to China before, were you just there visiting or studying as well?
I have a great interest in Chinese culture, sparked by my interest in table tennis and cinema, both of which are popular there.

I'm also trying to figure out how to return this guy's wallet I found on the street....no contact info unfortunately. I'd lose it if I lost my wallet.

I'm rather busy with work and assignments. Frighteningly busy, actually, I'm in the middle of an all-nighter for an assignment due tomorrow.....followed by a long shift :/ I haven't watched any anime since last weekend but I'm kind of juggling Ghost in the Shell: SAC and Shinsekai Yori.

it was okay for us, since we went way earlier,
before customers were there.

I know I did bad, but I know I will pass too,
but the score should be like 2.3~2.7, which is very average orz
before the exam, i thought I could get 1.7 or something lol
