Based on an anime's overall score on MAL, what is the lowest score it can have for you to still give it a chance?

The problem with MAL is after a while you can end up paying too much heed to others' ratings and reviews. Maybe not everyone falls in to that trap but I certainly have more than once. Nowadays I try not to read any reviews until after I'm done wih an anime. However avoiding the mean rating is somewhat impossible considering this is the place I come to discover and determine what series I'll be watching next and the rating number is right next to the name.

So yes I'll admit I pay attention to the ratings, especially because with my wide range of tastes I've found that I'm able to enjoy almost anything above an 8+ regardless of what it is. So for me it's an easy way to find something I know I'll enjoy.

Oh and to answer OPs question, I'm not gonna watch anything below a 6. In fact I'm not sure I've even watched a single anime that was even a 6. mean rating to begin with...

Unless it's something ridiculous like Mars of Destruction, my score's bound to be different from theirs. I already know that popularity and high ratings on MAL mean nothing. If they did, Steins;Gate wouldn't have been one of the most tedious and irritating things I've ever sat through.

Well i agree that some people have other taste than i do, but if after so many people voted, and the average is a low score, i wont bother with it, there are so many things i can watch im not going to waste my time trying it when there are others with a higher score

I don't put as much stock in the scores as some users might.

I really watch based on my personal thoughts. But if I see a really low score, it may alter my expectations when going into it.

I've been trying not to look at too many scores and reviews recently. I like enjoying my anime, not pointing out flaws. This is easier for me when I don't read critical reviews or look at scores.
Sometimes the other way around is a good time saver (i.e. trying to narrow down series to watch by score), but I am not interested in choosing my anime like this.

I could care less about the average rating of an anime, if it looks like it could be entertaining, then I'll watch it.

Usually never check for the score, just watch the titles that look interesting.

Otherwise I search on purpose for the lowest ranked, cause they always manage to make me laugh hard, like Skelter Heaven, a godly masterpiece of trash xD

I only read reviews and look at the average rating after i finish/Drop a show.

I like to form my own opinion first then see what other people think about it.

As of right now, I would say 8 and above with a few exceptions. Once I start finishing the best anime, I might not be able to get away with being so picky...

I never let MAL's overall score determine what anime I watch, because most of the time I never agrree with the majority of the MAL community. However, I will look to see what it is before I watch it and if its under a 7.5, I know I'm in for a rough ride.

7.5 if its lower it reduces the chances I will watch it by a ton, unless its currently airing then I don't care about the ratings at all. Those follow a different rule where I watch 2 episodes and judge.

8.0 for standard shows, but if there's a premise that really intrigues me then I'll check it out regardless. Recent example: Speed Grapher.

I can say for sure that i've fallen into this trap before.. I repeatedly read reviews and if its a really bad review I tend to avoid the anime it was written about. I need to avoid this as much as possible, or else im going to miss out on a lot of good anime!

i usually try finding 8 and above ones , but i just try some of them regardless of score ,I read the review and stuff but sometimes even the reviews are not very helpful .
I found Shakugan no Shana to be about 7/10 even tough people wrote good reviews about it , I didn't find it that great , A typical shounen anime .
And Star driver was a very very bad anime , i had read so many good reviews about it , and i found it to be horrible . The anime was a complete waste of time for me .
So it depends really , Rating, review , score sometimes just don't matter .
There's people who will give a ten rating to an anime i hate , so it just don't matter sometimes

Rating is only an indication of a rough score of an anime, anyways I usually try look for 8-9 anime. But usually try not to go lower than 7.5+, with the 7s I look at the genre and description if it sounds interesting enough I'll watch it. With the exception of Street Fighter which MAL gave a 6.5 I thought it wasn't that bad I believe I gave SF4 movie a 7, however Super Street Fighter 4 movie was just average and worth a 6.

Generally speaking if an anime has a score lower than 7.0 it needs something special for me to watch it, such as being related to another anime I liked or just sounding intersting or under-appreciated. It's really the reviews that make up my mind.

I don't care how other people rate their stuff. If the show looks interesting, I'll watch it. If the show looks really crappy, I'll watch it.

Only got one real life friend who watches anime like I do, and I tend to get advice from him first, if he has saw it. If not, I'll read the description. MAL scores don't really matter to me. I hate some things everyone loves and love some things everyone hates.

I have definitely scanned through the top anime on here and picked out something with a high score to give a shot though. Thats just to minimize my dropped anime list because I hate dropping things. If something catches my eye, I don't generally even pay attention to score.

I don't really care for the ratings becasue I've watched anime with bad rating that I personally liked and some with good that I hated. If it doesn't catch my attention then I won't watch it and then rate it for my own purposes but that's all

I honestly don't care what something is rated on MAL considering how unreliable these ratings are. I also feel really bad for those that do follow it because they're missing out on a lot of great anime and potential favorites.

I'll watch anything, since I shouldn't really care for scores.
There are some really great anime out there that get less than an 8 on this site, so if you are put off by a less than good score, you'll miss out on a bunch of great anime.

Spoken like someone that hasn't actually watched or looked at the list of anime with ratings below 6.4 on MAL. Most of that stuff is either hentai(unlikely anyone will admit to have seen not to mention favoriting), OVA/Specials based on the main anime which is more for fun and extra enjoyment than anything else, or just really obscure shows you'll never find anywhere to watch to add it to your completed list.

I pretty much never look at the Animelist page before I've either started watching or finished the series in question. So rating means nothing to me.

At least a 6 or above. Most of the stuff under that's probably not even worth it. And there are some good 6s out there just like there are some bad 8s.

Not giving examples :S

What low standards you have.

If its under a 6.5 then no I won't watch it because usually anything under it sucks horribly.

I'm pretty cautious when I watch stuff. 8.0 is normally the cut-off, but I'd dip as low as 7.5 if all of the reviews gave it high praise (REC was one of these rare gems, as was Oreimo). Otherwise, I'd stay away from all else.

Things that are under 7 tend to be garbage, according to the community. It's hard to find anything that's objectively decent at that standard.
