Sorry, but I don't accept random friend requests. Have a conversation with me first please.
I am currently a news reporter for a local newspaper in a little small town in the state of Oregon. I cover education (or lack thereof, to be perfectly honest) and city government. Hardly any anime or manga fans exist here, sadly.
If you're an anime fan and live in Western Idaho or Eastern Oregon, please shoot me a message. Not enough of us out here, I swear.
Work has kept me very busy and I find myself with much less time than I used to have before. If I don't respond to your comment or message, just give me a little bit and I'll respond.
The first anime I ever watched was Pokemon. As a young boy, I was obsessed with the Pokemon phenomenon, which was exploding in the United States during the mid to late 90s.
Cartoon Network was the only channel I watched that even showed Pokemon, and therefore eventually wound up being my gateway to Toonami and my true introduction to anime, with shows such as Dragonball Z, Gundam Wing, and Cowboy Bebop (although I hardly understood what was going on at the time).
Fast-forward to the present, and my taste in anime currently hovers around these genres: sci-fi, fantasy, psychological, dementia, and slice of life. I specifically like cerebral anime that attempt to deconstruct its characters, present in anime including Serial Experiments Lain, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and Ghost in the Shell.
My manga taste hovers around these genres: psychological, sci-fi, fantasy, historical, and slice of life. I'm also a sucker for beautifully done artwork, but not a big enough one to totally disregard a terrible plot.
Music wise, I am an avid listener of EDM , specifically Dubstep (usually liquid dubstep and chillstep), DnB, Electro, and Progressive House. I've recently expanded my taste to include trap music as well. I don't really have a favorite artist; usually I'm just throwing up one hour or two hour playlists from Youtube while I browse the web.
Reading manga while listening to music is becoming a favorite hobby of mine, especially after a long day of work.
I also play the violin. I played in high school, dropped it while in college, and picked it up once more. Definitely a good destresser.
About My Ratings
I use MAL's full rating system. The website was designed with numbers ranging from 1-10, and therefore I use the full scale. When I initially joined this site, I only used 5-10.
I used to be objective with the way I went about rating my shows, but that pretty much ended when I just stopped caring what people thought about my ratings. I rate based solely on my gut feelings.
Did I like it? Yes. How much? Kind of liked it. How did you like the characters? Not that much. Story? It was okay. Well that sounds like a 6 then.
See? Not very scientific.
About My Favorites
For anime, my favorite anime are set in stone and won't change anytime soon.
I'll go out and buy a manga series if it's a favorite of mine. Keep in mind that my current manga favorites need updating.
I am also an admin for the Philosophy Club, where occasionally we discuss philosophical anime and manga. Stop by if you're interested. Just check it out Here.
So, if you read through this lengthy introduction, then kudos to you and your level of patience.
Shirobako is too much. Another funny scene:
