I know he touched the mud but the grail its self was destroyed

The problem is that it actually wasn't. Only the vessel was destroyed by Saber's nobel phantasm.

At that time Kiritsugu had not seen clearly that its physical form was actually a true ‘hole’. It is a space tunnel that connected with the Magic Circle of the Greater Grail, which had been hidden beneath the altar of the ritual of descent, deep underground in Mount Enzō to the east of Miyama. The insides of the Greater Grail, which had drawn energy from the leylines for sixty years and now had obtained the souls of six Heroic Spirits, had been filled to the brim and turned into an enormous prana whirlpool. That was the true form of that black ‘hole’.

The ‘Vessel’ that had been removed from the Einsberns’ homunculus was only the key to open that ‘hole’, and also the control that sustained the stability of the hole. Kiritsugu, who did not know anything about this secret, had made a fatal mistake; he should not have commanded Saber to destroy the Grail, but instead should have made her use Excalibur to burn down the hole in the sky. No longer controlled by the ‘vessel’, the black sun began to melt; the hole gradually shrunk, but before it closed completely, it was already completely impossible to prevent the black mud from flowing out from within the hole.

Pretty good episode, although several instances were kind of meh/ cheesy. A big improvement over the first half of the show, which should have been cut down big time. I also still maintain that Kiritsugu's backstory was more interesting than the main plot.

Edit: Holy lol at most of the latest reviews for this, ruthless fanboy-ing.

go sue them as well as us cause you couldn't stop us from fanboy-ing something undeniably as great as this series, we wouldn't give reasons, cause the fact that you didn't like it is a cause enough that you have not seen what we have that makes this show so amazing for us ^^,

So... Kirei is one of the most sick and twisted mother fuckers I've ever seen.

And one of the most unsatisfying endings ever.

I've said it once and I'll say it again: Kiritsugu is the only good character in this show. Period.

When I got to highschool, however, I thought that it's more like a river in which the water represents our peers while we ourselves are the stones in the river. Constant erosion by mindless majority sheeping has made us lose our unique edge. After I hit the age of 18, I realized that I've been wrong all along. Society is no melting pot. Society is no river. Giving the show a 9/10, it did not go all the way with me.
The reason for not being 10/10?
I feel like there wasn't enough depth in some aspects of the show, for example the the character of Berseker, they could have done more with him I feel, for me he is still a big questionmark.
But yeah, overall an awesome experience, cant wait to buy the BluRays ^^

Oh ... thanks , now it's clear .... so the grail when it failed with Kiritsugu ... it decided to consider Gil and Kirie the winners and grant their wishes so it revive Kirie and grant his wish also it granted Gil wish wich is " incarnation in the world "

Nobody was able to get the Grail.Kiritsugu lost Saber, under his orders which was the same order that caused the Great Fuyuki Fire.Kirei and Gilgamesh both won something from this outcome so they won the war but not the Holy Grail.

Kiritsugu won the last fight for the Holy Grail War but Kirei was the one that won the war.

I really didn't need to see naked Gilgamesh. Ugh ..... yuck.

Great series overall. Still wish the fights were longer. Saber/Gilgamesh never even started.

Wow Rin's mother survived ..... if you want to call that surviving. Rin/Sakura really got hit hard.

Kiritsugu never got to see Illya again.

At least Berserker got a little more finally.

probably a solid 9. I'd like to see more adaptations maybe Heavens Feel from Ufotable. top notch animation, but please longer fights next time.

Incredible episode, incredible series what else can I say? Its been a long - long time since I've been this gripped and emotionally attached to a series. Now I'm feeling awful about it being over. Boo hoo.
I'm so going to read the Light Novel or something - to fill my void. Honestly, I can't describe how much this series means to me now!

Honestly. Hated how Kirei gave Rin the knife he used to kill her father. Sure, her father wasn't a saint but Rin did nothing to deserve that.

Also, I've gone from being indifferent to Kiritsugu to loving him. He's definitely my favorite character. I hated Shirou in Fate Stay Night though. Wish Kiritsugu survived for Fate Stay Night but even if he did I guess he wouldn't have had an important role.

REad the FSN Vn if you want something more.If you want something close to FZ use a save file to go straight to the heaven's Feel route.Although reading it all is recommended .
If he had survived he would end up like Aoi or at least a little better.

I would say give it a chance. Honestly visual novel if you can but if you cant try the anime. Compare to Fate zero you might be like wtf but its still a average anime if your brand new to fate. Which duh your not you just watched fate zero so you got some know how about the show. So fate stay night should be above average for you. I loved fate stay night going into it with no info in my mind about the show. (but then again i cant get enough fate)

If you can't spare the time to play the VN then don't bother with the anime. Unless you want to pick out all the inconsistencies...
If getting the VN is an issue then you can watch it on Youtube.
Just search up Xerblade and hes got all 3 routes uploaded.
But you do miss out on the experience as a whole because you don't really get to personally play through it all and see the bad ends.

Not just that, he has all the important scenes with none of the more bland romcom scenes about cooking and such that some people seem to complain about, so if you want a "cliff notes" version of the VN that's the best route.

no wish, that was made to the grail by Kirei, Kiritsugu or Gil,was granted. It was coincidence that Kirei was "revived" and Gil got a body.
I mean exactly that. They won the war but didnt get the grail.Like in Troy the Greeks won the war but didnt take Helen back(in Euripides, Stesichorus, and Herodotus versions of the story)

They were a dream of the Grail. Ilya was in Germany !!! And Irisviel was already dead... well, technically she's now part of Ilya because of how homonculi work but eh yeah, the simple answer is Ilya was never there and Irisviel was already dead. Everything Kiritsugu saw was a dream of the Grail.

Actually Berserker's muscles are too much. Alexander are more moderate and decent TBH however Gil's body is frail man. It looks like a body of Track Field that wants, OH I GET IT! Gil's body is to be perfection of all men hence why it's shaped like that. Well finally I get it, however I still do not agree Gil's body would be perfection due to his supremacy. Even the MUD part cannot possible overthrow the grandiose GAG of Alexander's T-Shirt that of it always telling ADMIRABLE! Yes for he is always admirable.

Oh I see some the pic itself is kind of a like a metaphor of showing what is peace becomes fate later and that is shown easily. I understand quite well now. Too bad the Fate never got beaten by the Happiness at the table. Right?

Actually people think now the Creator of this has this weird mentality that he loves to make characters suffer. I was like really WTF and O_O at Saber's last face. DAMN! You EVIL CREATOR! Well Gen just add some details in what Nasu had created. And in FSN all ill fated characters(Ilya,Sakura,Saber,Shirou even Rider)reach a happy ending in some routes. And the villains actually pay for the shit they have done so I dont think he is that evil.

Wait, so who actually won the Holy Grail? I was thinking Kiritsugu because he went through that "ship" scene, but I also heard that Gilgamesh and Kirei were victorious..

Nobody was able to get the Grail.Kiritsugu lost Saber, under his orders which was the same order that caused the Great Fuyuki Fire.Kirei and Gilgamesh both won something from this outcome so they won the war but not the Holy Grail.

Kiritsugu won the last fight for the Holy Grail War but Kirei was the one that won the war.

anyway the grail grant their wishes ... and what do you by winning the war and not the grail !! ... if you won the war so you have won the grail

no wish, that was made to the grail by Kirei, Kiritsugu or Gil,was granted. It was coincidence that Kirei was "revived" and Gil got a body.
I mean exactly that. They won the war but didnt get the grail.Like in Troy the Greeks won the war but didnt take Helen back(in Euripides, Stesichorus, and Herodotus versions of the story)

About Gil... maybe it's a coincidence but for Kirei it's not ,the grail granted Kirie wish ; and this is from Wikia :
"In Kirei's last moments, the Holy Grail appeared to him; filled with hatred and envy for Kiritsugu, Kirei reached out and touched the cursed artifact. He prayed for an end to humanity; his wish was granted in the form of fire. "
