Now that we're pretty much halfway through 2023, what anime has been your favorite in the 2023 season so far?

My ranking:
1. Vinland Saga Season 2
2. Dr. Stone Season 3
3. Demon Slayer Season 3
4. Record of Ragnarok Season 2
5. Attack on Titan S4 Part 3
6. Tokyo Revengers Season 2
7. Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabre
8. Nagatoro Season 2

Updated:
1. Vinland Saga Season 2 (undefeated)
2. Dr. Stone Season 3
3. Demon Slayer Season 3
4. Oshi No Ko (tbh the prologue carried)
5. Record of Ragnarok Season 2
6. Jigokuraku
7. Attack on Titan Season 4 Part 3 (I don't really care ab Attack on Titan anymore since they keep dragging Season 4 with all these parts)
8. Tokyo Revengers Season 2
9. Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabre
10. Nagatoro Season 2

have yet to see vinland second season which might affect my rankings and a lot of my favorites so far are from this season so it might change based on the last few episodes but for a top 5, something like:

- Boku no Kokoro no Yabai Yatsu
- Kidou Senshi Gundam: Suisei no Majo Season 2
- Tomo-chan wa Onnanoko!
- Tengoku Daimakyou

I have not watched (or more so finished) any Spring shows and Winter was kind of a dud so I don't have a top 10 yet.

I only have a top 2 (no particular order):
- Oniichan wa Oshimai!
- Mou Ippon!

I guess the Kyouki Sanmyaku: Naked Peak trailer was also quite interesting, but we'll need to wait for the actual movie in a year or two to see, and adding a trailer doesn't really count.

If I had to pick just one new anime as best of 2023, I guess it would have to be Heavenly Delusion. It takes risks. The world and character-building are great. It's well-written and the production values are so polished you could mistake it for a movie. Most importantly, it's not really like anything else we have out right now. It's so rare to find something that truly marches to the beat of its own drum these days.

Honorable mentions to Gold Kamuy, Vinland Saga, Oshi no Ko, Ancient Magus Bride, Insomniacs After School, and Skip to Loafer. I personally liked Onimai and Edomeae elf a lot, although I can't in good conscience call them masterpieces. I still think they deserve a shout-out just because they are so overlooked.

1. Vinland Saga Season 2---- Easy number one, no debate, one of the greatest arcs of all time, not just of the year. Peak fiction. People through around the term Peak so it looses its meaning, but this is actually one of the best pieces of fiction ever.  10/10
2. Attack on Titan--- Its attack on titan, what else can be said. 10/10
3. Trigun Stampede--- really good, surprised its not higher rated. Its very different from the original, which in my opinion makes it better. It wouldnt be as good if it just copied the original. Also it looks amazing. Best CGI anime in my opinion, though thats not a high bar. 9/10
4. Tengoku diamakyou--- Its really good, a mix of The last of us and promised neverland. Its not finished so that may affect where i place it. 8/10
5. Oshi no ko--- people like to hate on it, but its still good. First episode was amazing after that I still enjoyed it, not as good as the first episode but still good.  8/10
6. Demon slayer S3--- Its fine, animation is good, theres no story like usual. its like season 2, but less hype and worse. Still enjoying it. 7/10

These are the only shows I have watched from this year, so I cant say too  much about the others

So far, I've actually only watched six new series from this year including both the winter and spring seasons. Those are Sugar Apple Fairy Tale, Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill, Hikari no Ou, Tousouchuu: Great Mission, Aiyou de Mishi/X&Y, and Tengoku Daimakyou.

Of those, Tengoku Daimakyou, Hikari no Ou, and Aiyou de Mishi are definitely the best in my view. Probably in that order too. That said, they are still in my mind "only" 7/10-tier shows, so solidly good with a lot of potential, but nothing phenomenal.

If I violated my own rule and included not just completely new series, but new seasons of older pre-existing series from previous years, then the best would probably be Mahoutsukai no Yome season 2 and Vinland Saga season 2. Even though I still significantly prefer the first seasons of both thus far.

I have a few shows unfinished or behind on (inexplicably I fell off Heavenly Delusion, for example, despite really enjoying it)
but as of now, with Spring mostly over

1. Skip and Loafer
2. Oshi no Ko
3. Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury s2
4. The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady
5. Loving Yamada at Lv.999
6. Handyman Saitou in Another World
7. Hirogaru Sky Precure (not likely to be complete until the end of the year, but it's aired more than a cour already)
8. The Dangers in My Heart
9. Onimai
10. Otaku Elf
11. My Clueless First Friend
12. Nagatoro s2
13. Insomniacs After School
14. Ancient Magus Bride s2
15. Tomo-chan is a Girl
16. Hell's Paradise
17. Endo and Kobyashi Live
18. Pokemon Horizons (definitely has upside to go higher)
19. Dead Mount Death Play
20. Saving 80,000 Gold for My Retirement in Another World
21. Tonikawa s2
22. Farming Life in Another World
23. In/Spectre s2
24. The Ice Guy and His Cool Female Colleague
25. Yuri is My Job
26. Chillin in My 30's (incomplete but only two episodes left so I feel fair ranking it)
27. Konosuba Explosion
28. My One Hit Kill Sister
29. The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten
30. Ningen Fushin
31. Reborn to Master the Blade

unranked due to incompletion/fall-off: Heavenly Delusion, Raeliana, Sacrificial Princess, High Card, Trigun Stampede, Buddy Daddies, Campfire Cooking, Kubo Won't Let Me Be Invisible, Bofuri s2
Dropped: Fire Hunter, Ayakashi Triangle, Isekai de Cheat Skill, Sugar Apple Fairy Tale
Heavenly Delusion would be top ten, even top 5, but I'm five episodes behind so I can't fairly rank it and at this point I'll just binge when the season's done.

you may notice quite a few sequels missing. not current on Demon Slayer or Dr. Stone, and I didn't manage to watch the first season of Vinland Saga in time to follow season 2. not on the Bungou or Danmachi train either. or Tokyo Revengers. Mashle doesn't look like my thing.
for Summer I'm probably missing a lot more shows so I can catch up on my backlog and get back to work on my PTW maybe as well. Might be as few as five shows. fortunately IDGAF about most of the big sequels besides Mushoku Tensei.
honestly Skip and Loafer's going to be hard to beat for me unless Gundam sticks the landing like crazy.

Of what I've seen so far:

Mahoutsukai no Yome 2 (7.5/10 I really love this series, but the second season is just not quite as good as the first. Still great though)
Oshi no Ko (8/10 The first episode is amazing and although the latter episodes haven't been quite as good, they're still interesting and I do really enjoy this series. I may end up marking it down to a 7 though... it depends on the last few eps)
The Reason Why Raeliana Ended Up at the Duke's Mansion (6.5/10 I love this series, but the animation is nowhere near as good as the manhwa. I marked it down for that)
Buddy Daddies (7/10 I enjoyed this far more than I expected. It has action and sh*t, but also has that slice of life feel and that just pulled me in as I'm a sucker for SOL)
Tsurune 2 (7/10 I loved the first season and enjoyed the hell out of this one too)
Tondemo Skill de Isekai Hourou Meshi (6.5/10 This was my relaxing series to watch.)

Honestly it’s probably because of how hyped I was for it because the manga is my second to favorite manga of all time.

I was like that for Record of Ragnarok season 1 too, because I really liked the manga and couldn’t wait to see it become animated.

i didn't watch too much shows in this year so that's why the list is pretty short

For me i think those are the best for the half of this year  ( without a particular order ) :

  • Bungou Stray Dogs 4th Season ( which i think that this season is so underrated )

  • Kimetsu no Yaiba: Katanakaji no Sato-hen

  • "Oshi no Ko"

  • Vinland Saga Season 2

  • NieR:Automata Ver1.1a ( the way they captured the first two episodes from the game was so damn perfect )

That's all

We are barely halfway through the year, but I feel that it will be extremely difficult for any other work to take the title of AOTY from Vinland Saga Season 2. In my opinion, no other work of the year had as much substance as such a story, despite there being better productions and better directed and animated. It's my favorite for now, for sure.

Tengoku Daimakyou, for now, is the best of the new ones. A work of incredible mystery connection and probably the best animated work of the year so far. And, as another mention, I'd like to mention Urusei Yatsura, which was a follow-up from 2022 and, while it doesn't really grab people's attention, it's definitely my favorite comedy of the year and a remake brought to life by a committed and passionate team.
