Damn, the first half of this episode was kinda intense especially with the action and magical-girl based attacks. To mix in the humor, Otaku Hero had some
colorful fantasies about the girls.

Even though Otaku Hero felt a lot of pressure, I'm glad this episode had the chance for him to celebrate Christmas with his friends. That was even the first present Anarchy has received, according to her words. Good for them.

Didn't think we needed a backstory on how otaku hero met these three magical girls, but I'm glad we got one.

The SSC comes attacking on Otaku Hero's turf, and it's a massive war that the otaku find themselves so way behind. Slayer, being borne by the SSC, she's a real handful once unleashed.

That said, Otaku Hero and the 3 magical girls dragged to his secret house for a harem-ful Christmas, and the backstory of how he met Anarchy, Blue and Pink in their seemingly airheaded status, this was just after the SSC had rounded Akihabara's otaku, and he is not willing to throw in the towel, following his dad's footsteps from being a computer otaku, and a life that was bustling with otaku all around Akibahara, before all went to shit.

With every stake that represents an innocent otaku life lost to unfairness, Otaku Hero comes face to face with the main enemy, and even if this is a taunt, it'll mark him for life. The Christmas presents that present the 3 magical girls with their iconic rags zero-sense clothes before Otaku Hero starts his own revolution, the magic of Anarchy, Blue and Pink start to roll and the fire has been lit to liberate Japan and save otaku. This has been the beating heart ever since, and all hearts as one to fight for what they dream of.

Finally, a pretty good episode that finally breaks the somewhat average showing this show has been thus far.

waste of an episode, I didn't care bout their backstory in the first place. in this episode the show almost lost its somewhat unique trippy atmosphere, except for the beginning

I have a feeling that mentioning his father was a "Computer Otaku" and the main antagonist having an old PC monitor for a head will play a part with whatever symbolism this show is going for.

I still don't know what I feel about this show. I like that "Mid 2000's Gainax" aesthetic, but it's just not cutting it for me. I'm sticking with this because it's not terrible and just hoping the ending pays off, because it's clear they're going for SOMETHING, but it just doesn't excite me :\

Didn't like this episode as much as the previous 2 (or 3?), because I didn't find the backstory interesting. The pinky toe flicking scene was pretty good though.

They're really trying but I'm still not feeling any fun. The villains' motives are ridiculous, the three girls are empty characters, the backstory is difficult to empathize

We got backstory on how otaku hero met the magical girls, their bonds which played a vital role on who they are now.

Oh the Slayer really like the three girls, oh them past, oh Shobo recognize Otaku Hero even messed his heads up a little with those alert. But still not doing a zero contribution to the whole narrations and no other purpose of the episode rather than just a sign of unknown backstory for the main characters. Kyo floating around as a mere narrative aid actually not helping a lot to strengthen up the mood, it is just too ordinary. I need more mindblowing blast. I need more context. I need more, then its a cruel cliffhanger....

The most surprising thing about the backstory was how the mascot thing was apparently already there independently of the girls. I still feel invested in the weirdness and what it's going for. I don't feel at all confident we'll get interesting answers to things like the comment about reincarnation, but I'd sure like to.

The timeline is kinda wonky. At first I thought it was just bad storytelling/editing. But with what is said in the next episode preview, I'm beginning to think it's deliberate, and that we shouldn't take any of this at face value.

Ah I see, so Slayer is a magical girl that was brainwashed though i kind of already got that impression before.

Hm that's an interesting thought. I keep wracking my brains out trying to see through things since I get a strong feeling this takes a jab at something but I cant quite figure exactly whaat it is.

There we go, back on track with some interesting details to cut into.

First, Shobon could reasonably be Otaku Hero's father, what with the PC theme. I can't see any reason at this current time for that to be the case from a narrative perspective, but I'm sure it will be.

Next, Slayer is evidently another Anarchy of some description, her silhouette during and hair prior to the brainwashing sequence match exactly.

Kyotaro and the girls are evidently derived from the media Otaku Hero immerses himself in, as I guessed. We saw what looks like Kyotaro on the tv during the flashback, and the poster above the girls has elements of their later designs. The is-there-even-magic angle also gets more evidence, as they explicitly state they cannot, only to noticeably change their demeanours and declare they can soon after. Evidently something changed in the few minutes of that scene, be it within the story or the manner in which it is shown.

The latter is supported a little by the scene in which Shobon and Otaku Hero meet each other, as it's presented entirely differently to the rest of the episode and show as a whole. The hanging water droplets also call back to the prominent use of water in the opening, which I've earlier thought to refer to the alternate Otaku interpretation of the world, as I referenced above.

Truly a good one, though it could have come a little earlier. The preview of the next episode seems like it may provide more, it mentions loops, which may provide a clue as to why images of multiple instances of the girls have been running for a while now.
Well I for one already loved Lain.

Let's see if I understand correctly, then all the magical girls; Anarchy, Blue, and Pink were all lab-created, and Slayer was lab-created from a mix of Anarchy and Blue or also Pink?. Anyway, the 3 of them are loyal to the Otaku Hero because they fell in love like the chicks at birth from the first thing they saw and they swore allegiance to him in a few words, but my real question is: How sooner or later did what we are seeing happen compared to to what we have been seeing in the chapters so far?

Interesting episode, the comedy was put on the side while we get the background of all of the characters and how they met, it's very neat. The war between the SSC and the otakus is still going very strong, it's epic. I especially liked the small moment with Slayer, we get to see that she was probably genetically created in a lab. That ending though, what will happens in the next episode ? We'll see next week.
I like everything, ok
