Just really depressing to see a creator who made my childhood with the show, manga, and these cards just suddenly gone. Goodness, I remember my cousins and I bonded so much not only from pokemon but Yu-gi-oh was a major series we loved. Rest easy Takahashi-san know that you made an impact in the world with Yu-gi-oh and I'm so keeping my cards for safe keeping too much fond memories I have with them.

Never knew the guy but still its kinda brutal man. A sad loss for all of us.

Out of ~1000 episodes total, I think I've watched the entirety of DM, half of 5ds, entirety of zexal, arc v, and vrains, so thats definitely more than half of all the episodes. Been playing the game on and off for over ten years, even if I havent been much recently.

I'm not a super hardcore yugioh fan, but it still means a lot to me.

Sad news considering it seemed like an accident before his time. He and his work are legendary and his passing away is a huge loss to many like me who grew up with his work in our early childhoods.

May he rest in peace.

Ah, I heard about this when the news dropped here in Japan. It's really saddening to hear. The Yu Gi Oh anime and card game was a big part of my life growing up. I remember waking up early to watch it on a Saturday morning in the UK.

Thank you, Takahashi for making my childhood brighter

RIP. Loved Yugioh, still think it's one of the more interesting shounen manga and the anime was loads of fun when I was younger.

So sad to hear this.
Yugioh was my first anime, it's the anime that got me into anime 19 years ago.
You could say he is the man responsible for my anime obsession.

Now Japanese political activists are spreading rumors that his death had something to do with the political scandals surrounding the Liberal Party. What the hell is even going on?

I know about it, but I don't think it could have anything to do with it. Although, as it turns out, Japanese haters literally hate the manga industry are now sure that his death was an attempt to cover up some kind of "scandal".

Rest in Peace, what a sad day this is..

Yu-Gi-Oh! was such a huge part of my childhood, and i still love playing from time to time to this day. Season 0 and Duel Monsters were such fantastic series, and the card game sparked a worldwide phenomenon with so so many trying to ride the coattails of its success, with none ever quite replicating it.

Takahashi may no longer be with us in body, but his work and influence with always be here.

Thank you. For bringing to life one of my most cherished show and game.

They are probably completely unrelated. He was found in snorkeling gear, it's probably better to assume it was an accident for now rather than speculate on conspiracies.

I know next to nothing about Yu-Gi-Oh other than catching a couple episodes on TeleToon when I was 6 and watching a few funny 4Kids dub clips but there's no denying the impact this man had on so many people

ご冥福をお祈りします、高橋先生

I'm a bit late, but RIP. I've always maintained that he was one of the most underrated Jump artists. Yu-Gi-Oh! was filled with some pretty sick art and designs.

I hope he knows that he leaves behind a huge legacy and franchise that shows no signs of slowing and that has inspired thousands.

Yes, it's obviously unrelated, but I was trying to word it in a way that wouldn't trigger posts from certain negative elements of this site. Also at the time there were also a bunch of posts speculating about the conspiracies, that was more what I was responding to, maybe I didn't pick the best post to respond to.

I do not see where I said they were, you seem to either easily misunderstand things or are trying to start an argument where there is none. Either way I am not responding to any more of your responses.

I don't quite understand who exactly is trying to start an argument here, given your sudden rude response, but ok.

Manga creator Kazuki Takahashi, best known for the Yu☆Gi☆Oh! manga series, died on Thursday. He was 60 years old.

According to the NHK, a person reported to the Japan Coast Guard at around 10:30 in July 6 that a body was floating 300 meters from the coast of Nago city, Okinawa prefecture. The Coast Guard found Takahashi with snorkeling gear. The Coast Guard and police are investigating the incident at the moment.
3 months later and we just got more news about his death.

Army officer recognized for rescuing three people from riptide that killed ‘Yu-Gi-Oh!’ creator

STARS AND STRIPES • October 11, 2022

TORII STATION, Okinawa – A U.S. Army officer was recognized for rescuing three people from a riptide at a popular Okinawa dive spot in an episode that apparently killed a well-known Japanese manga artist.

Maj. Robert Bourgeau, 49, of Missoula, Mont., the deputy operations officer for the 10th Support Group at Torii Station in Yomitan, was nominated by his command last month for the Soldier’s Medal for his actions during the July 4 rescue at Mermaid’s Grotto in Onna. The medal recognizes acts of heroism not involving actual conflict with an enemy.

Kazuki Takahashi, 60, the creator of the popular Japanese manga series “Yu-Gi-Oh!,” attempted to aid Bourgeau in the rescue, unbeknownst to the American, and drowned in the process, a pained Bourgeau told Stars and Stripes on Oct. 3.

. . .

Bourgeau jumped into the rip current and sped out to the girl, but was quickly exhausted as he worked to bring her toward the shallows, he said. Then he encountered her mother who had somehow been sucked into the swirling waters as well.

“I grabbed mom and I grabbed [the girl] and I just kicked for all life,” Bourgeau said.

At some point during the rescue, Takahashi entered the water, Bourgeau said. He said he didn't see the Japanese icon during the ordeal. Bourgeau's students caught glimpses of him until he disappeared beneath the waves.

"He's a hero," Bourgeau said of Takahashi. "He died trying to save someone else."
