Even though Myne is being targeted again, at least she has someone to protect her this time. This episode escalated and it also looks like Dirk has quite an important role in this show since his birth.

Can't wait for the finale.

It's like all the action that were missing from all previous episodes are packed into this episode. This is on top of many twist, with the biggest one being Myne is now adopted into Sylvester family.

Poor baby, I hope Dirk have a bright future, but at least he has to survive his childhood.

I kinda like the muscle enchant magic that soldiers of that noble use, I'm a fan of muscle after all.

Dirk's adoption by a noble, and the High Priest's involvement on Main and Tuuli's double kidnapping in broad daylight with the failed blocking, it's all come to fruition that Main's danger is for real.

Sylvester's black protective charm certainly makes its use now, but for Head Priest Ferdinand to go missing now, it's trouble one after another. Furthermore, with Dirk's new adoption with the egregious Count Bindewald, Delia has no salvation being the High Priest's tool, and her case use is almost done at this stage with the Devouring servitude contract.

The "Church is bad" plotline finally rears its ugly head now, with all parties on scene, and Main's Devouring mana power is the strongest and most dangerous it has ever been. Ferdinand literally saved the best for the last, faking his presence and taking action to serve justice. And through the conditional blood pact, Main unknowingly contracted her life away to Sylvester.

NGL, this feels anticlimactic instead of just a mere resolve...

Also @Swagernator those 2 GIFs were exactly how to describe this episode at best.

Holy shit man what an episode. Probably my fave Honzuki ep. Nonstop action and tension from beginning to end.

High priest is so lucky Ferdinand got back before Myne could kill him. I’ve never seen her with such murderous intent. Been waiting for two seasons to see him get his ass beat

The duel at the end reminded me a lot of Harry and Voldemort from deathly hollows pt 2. Insane episode, can’t wait for the finale next week and hopefully a s4 announcement isn’t far behind

Jenni also needs her ass beat

A magic battle was not something I expected from this series. Firing shots of mana at each other in the cathedral hallways is far from my mind when it comes to bookworm. We've seen mana based attack before and even earlier this season but damn a full blown mana magic battle was intense. Stopping Main from being kidnapped happened much faster than I thought it would. Fairly early in the episode she's safe then heading to the cathedral and there are some problems. The noble who forced Dirk into a servitude contract now wanting Main too since she's right there. Leading to that big fight with Gunther, Fran and Damuel trying to keep Main safe. Main herself dealing some offensive attacks keeping that slimey noble back. I got really scared when he came close to forcing they contract on her but thankfully Gunther snatched her away. That black protective charm didn't work as thought but like anything with Sylvester it's not as straightforward as we would think. The only way to protect everyone now is for Main to leave right away.

I too, hate that High Priest so much that i want him to suffer. Not just him,but any corrupt nobles and any arrogant, greedy pigs like them. Bookworm antagonists are so cliche.

Best episode so far. Somehow I had a feeling that Jenny servant was just as screwed in the head as the high priest. Delia still clueless, annoying and helpless as ever. Ferdinand just walks in the whole scene like he just came out of the bathroom lmao. Fight scenes were incredible though.

My only gripes were some weird story directions for this episode. Like shortly after the fight, they stretched out this long almost 2-minute "catch-up" conversation between Myne, Ferdinand and her dad, while the two fatass nobles just stand in the background like they didn't exist for a moment lol. Or Damuel trying to shield Myne with wand in hand only to get blasted anyway lmao. I don't know, just small nitpicks that I wish they handled differently just to make the sequences flow smoothly.

Ahhh yesss Mana Deathmatch, was it too much to expect some ufotable level mana fights just for this 2 min fight segment..... it was good none the less,
(Though the ufotable++ level artwork at the end is superb too to add to your own imagination).
I was watching the time left and wondering if that fight was also gonna be next episode, good thing it started at least (Yes its just starting in a way).
.
Also there were some segments I wanna say were too simple ,
Like Dirks forced mana drain, I was expecting him to be a little more pale after it based on the LN, but I guess its difficult to bring too deep horror elements in a slice-of-life-isekai type anime.
Also The way Delia just takes out contract and puts it back.... lmao
Where did it come from and where did it go, hahaha guess nobody at the animation studio decided to sweat over the small stuff.
.
.
.
Also The two gifs Swagernator posted above are pure GOLD.

According to those two, Ferdinand does not have authority to act, and believe he will have to say quite and obey.
High Bishop - Has techinally higher authority.
Visiting Evil Noble - Not only an visitor from another Duchy, a Noble, so by default higher authority than a priest. Thats why he is surprised Ferdinand has a schattpe.

So if not for the pendent, Ferdinand would have been in deep trouble initiating the fight, if he decided to. And face heavy consequences.
.
But now hehehehe he can hold Myne's Bloody Carnival.

Most likely since one of the parties in the contract would not be there and it seems like that's Ferdinand goal with how hard he is going.

Also did Ferdinand just dis the high priest by pointing out he's not a noble? Thought blue priests were nobles sent to the church.

Blue priests are nobles, i.e. parents are nobles, and or were themselves nobles but sent to the temple. (At this point of time temple is looked down upon, and extras who cannot be taken care of or nobles who have disgraced themselves, being punished by lowering of status are sent to the temple to serve as a priest.)
.
To be a TRUE NOBLE as Ferdinand said, one has to have Noble Blood, and Graduate from the Royal Academy in the Royal Capital of the Country. Lore - (gaining this status i.e. graduating is actually difficult, one has to work very hard, it's a 6-year course) .

Holy crap, this was an amazing episode, everything that could have gone wrong did in fact go wrong and you know shit got real when the calm and logic Ferdinand was ready to go ape shit asking Myne to brace herself and protect the rest. There were a lot of pacing issues and some weird directions but honestly I was so invested I didn't even care, man I even got pretty emotional when Myne was telling her dad she was ready to separate from her family in order to protect them, I was just about to let a tear drop. I don't want this show to end : (

This episode was nerve wrecking, I tell ya! It was very unfair for Main and the guards to be treated as criminals and those two old hags playing the victims. Such abuse for power :( I don't think the old priest get that message from last time she used the devouring on him. Justice must be served for Main. Ferdinand should show who's boss!

Delia messed up big time! She screwed up for not looking deep in that contract. She really need to open her eyes for the high priest's old man's and his intentions. She must think everything is smiles and roses (I'm not sure this is the right phrase?) Delia is also in danger by the time she became the high priest's dog, so :/ Hope Dirk's ok.

Lol yeah, the standing around was weird but I imagine they figured they didn’t have to do anything else because the Head Priest was obligated to detain her based on the circumstances and he would have if not for the ring. To your point about Damuel, I’m pretty sure he ran out of mana so he couldn’t pull up that magic shield again. The noble guy said as much, mocking him for having so little mana.

And once again they glossed over a lot of things that happened in the novel. That Devouring soldier that Myne crushed and Gunther stabbed? That was not as far as it went in the novel. Gunther outright killed the guy. And when they got back to the temple, Gil was very clearly traumatized by watching someone die. The battle was also a bit different. Mostly it was just that things went significantly quicker than I'd have expected. They glossed over some of the things that happened after Ferdinand arrived too. For example, Myne's Shield of Shutzaria. Damuel was actually knocked unconscious (and actually pretty badly injured) by Bindewald and had to be dragged into Myne's shield. In addition, Delia had to run for the shield with Dirk while dodging some of the ricocheting mana from Ferdinand and Bindewald's duel. (With Fran asking Myne not to let Delia take advantage of her kindness.) And on top of that was that Jenni wasn't the only other attendant Bezewanst had brought with him. There were one or two others and when they saw that Myne was willing to let Delia into her shield, they asked if she would let them in as well, to which she responded with "if you can enter it." Which one of them failed to do since they harbored malicious intent towards Myne.

Though there's one thing that still doesn't make sense to me. I was hoping the anime might clarify things but it really didn't. This is the temple map provided in one of the novels:

"Temple head's room" refers to Bezewanst's chambers, which is where his group were coming from. "Chief priest's room" is Ferdinand's chambers. Myne's group came from the orphanage director's chambers. If you look at that map then there's two possible routes to Ferdinand's chambers. The first comes out between Bezewanst and Ferdinand's chambers and the other is on the complete opposite side of Ferdinand's chambers. Noble guests would be entering the temple from one of two spots. There's the north entrance between Ferdinand and Bezewanst's chambers, which seems to be where Myne is at the end of the episode, and then there's the main entrance to the east. The way the anime depicted things, it looked like they initially saw Bezewanst's group as they turned the corner to head for the northern exit. This would mean that when they turned back, they had to go the long way past the main entrance to the east. But if that's the case then why did Bezewanst's group turn from what appears to be the central hallway that would be the straight shot to Ferdinand's chambers? And what even made them turn around in the first place?

Though there's actually other issues with this map in the first place. In the upper left, there's a shot of the temple as a whole. In this shot, both the front and rear buildings are fairly short in the north-south direction. But the front and rear building maps in the lower left and right side don't actually line up with the shot that's depicted. There's also a few shots in season 2 that make little sense as well. For example the back gate is the Lower City entrance. On at least one occasion, Lutz and Myne are depicted going through that gate and hanging a left, which would have them traveling east. But they're explicitly heading to the Gilberta Company at this point in time which is literally a straight shot south from the gate. You can see what I mean here:

Though this map also doesn't line up with what's depicted in the previous map itself. In the previous map the temple is clearly outset from the main line of the wall a bit but in the map of the Lower City, the wall is perfectly straight from east to west. And even if they happened to be going home instead of the Gilberta Company, this choice in direction still wouldn't have even made sense. If you look at that map, the shortest path fromt he temple to Myne's house would be to go straight to the Central Plaza (and thus past the Gilberta Company) and then go east to the diagonal road that runs to the southeast point of the city. The worldbuilding in this series has always been pretty solidly consistent but these details in particular have really bugged me for quite awhile.

Unlike in the anime, Damuel wasn't even conscious. Bindewald's attack KOed him and injured him pretty badly. As for Ferdinand's conversation with Myne, Ferdinand actually played it off as him placing a magic tool on her to seal her mana and that being what took so long since he was facing away from Bindewald and Bezewanst as he spoke to her and gave her the ring.

We finally get to have a magic battle again!
It's not that I dislike this genre but... to add unnecessary fan services to/in/for heroines
and ultimately destroys her character and personality; their purity tarnished because of it,
is the only thing I hope to not happen to them. For that sole purity is my fan service.

So the lesson to Main is that she needs to get a bit quicker on the trigger finger. If she took out both of them before Ferdinand showed up, everything would have gone a lot smoother.

Also a little sad the black stone didn't explode a bit harder (and perhaps take a hand with it, or at least shrapnel), but I guess since it looks like Evil Santa is going to survive this encounter that's probably for the best in the end.

And yeah, wasn't expecting a Harry Potter duel, but it's not unwelcome.

Next week can't come soon enough... except that then it's the last episode, and I'll start having withdrawal....

About the Black Stone, I agree that an exploding stone would ad a bit flare/retribution towards Fatty Bishop.
But according to the world magic system Oversaturated mana stones do not explode, but rather turn in to dust.
This Dust is very VERY expensive, and hard to acquire, and an important ingredient in mana applications like tools or potions. Mana is not given around by nobles freely, since its used extensively and no one has any excess of it, specially now, since the Noble Purge.
At a later point in time Myne does Wonder if Ferdinand after the fight sneakily collected it for his research stuff.

Felt like Harry Potter episode lol

Also one real thing that surprised me (more negatively) : Sir Damuel is supposed to be a knight with both mana and abilities to fight in melee combat, as seen in the Season 2 versus the huge Trombe (they were using hallberds and axes if I'm correct, as well as these "magic knives").

So at first he doesn't hold any weapon on him, even when her VIP is kidnapped & threatened by bandits. He however seems to have defensive abilities such as a shield or a barrier, both used in this episode. But the main issue to me, is that in both encounters (first part of the episode + Cathedral) he seemed a loss or in disadvantage versus any opponent, including assassins.

I can understand that he wouldn't offensively use his abilities versus the High Priest or the Count, but against the assassins ? Shouldn't be dominated like or resorted to a fist brawl while Main's life is particularly in danger.

Felt very out of place to me : just the fact she was kidnapped while under his protection is technically a huge failure, that could have been worse without Main's father. Of course this whole episode of Main's being in danger was necessary to bring some dramatic events, but it still rubbed me wrong how her assigned bodyguard failed repeatedly to fulfill his duties.

Something being bothering me for a while, maybe it's a translation issue but isn't Ferdinand supposed to be the king or some high ass noble? I get it you don't want to be seen as a Tyrant or start a civil war or even a full war with another country but you can exert your authority or wishes without breaking your "disguise", I don't think things needed to escalated this much before he takes proper action.

Also isn't her bodyguard a former member of what is basically the special forces for this nation? He isn't proficient with magic I get it, but he can't even subdue some faceless thug..?

With that being said still love this show.

I'll admit the animation and emotion displayed aren't on par as the LN, but its just amazing to see the scenes finally animated.

We know from previous episodes that book-making can't be conducted until she is adopted by a noble in this society. This circumstance will now speed up that process!

I think you're confusing different works completely. Ferdinand is not the king nor anything close. Also, Damuel is a low ranked (he's a low rank noble so has low magic level) newbie knight of the Duchy of Erhenfest. What you've got as information is that he's currently part of the church (looked down by every noble out there pretty much as being failures as nobles) but contrary to other blue robes, he used to be part of the knights of Erhenfest and the knights respect him
The guy he's facing is a high ranked noble for another, way bigger neighbour duchy.
