Dang literally writing off your son is dead in a letter and sending it to him... yikes.

To think that this was commonplace in high society back then wouldn't surprise me. Especially since it seems that Tamahiko was the eldest boy.

Darn now I want some ice cream.

Speaking of ice cream grandma over there from the Lost Generation (maybe? I was about to say boomers XD) talking about how vulgar they're being in the ice-cream parlor was golden. "What's next they'll start holding hands =///= (/∇\*)"

Oh, crap. The little sister has appeared.

This anime fucking sucks. I like the time period, some of the girl’s reaction faces, and it’s decent from a production standpoint, but the actual content makes it unbearable to watch.

I can’t believe they are expecting me to take seriously the MC’s dad saying “yeah we can let people know that you lost use of an arm in an accident because it will ruin their marriages, so we’re just gonna say you’re dead”. And that leads to the MC getting all depressed and “suicidal” so the most perfect child can coddle him up while he constantly blushes and is taken aback. Am I supposed to be attracted to this child? I feel like that’s the only way I can get any enjoyment out of this nausiating wish-fulfillment garbage.

One more episode and I’m gone.
dude are you high or something? learn some history bud family reputation was such a big deal in 1917 old japan speacially with the rich families its not a show's fault that your tiny brain can't handle this fact dude just stop it and rewatch your hxh and other shounens if you can't even handle a wholesome one

He lost use of an arm in an accident, it isn’t like he was born deformed or has some mental disability. Plus he isn’t really associated with the family anymore so nobody would see him. I cannot imagine that would be enough to call of some arranged marriages for his siblings.

Are you an expert in early 1900s Japanese aristocratic politics? No? Are you making assumptions as well? Then don’t hurl insults when you are not any more educated on a topic just because a person doesn’t like your animated show about a child love interest babying a “suicidal” teenage boy.

Yuzu is absolutely adorable and I can't help myself but totally in love with her.

But it's no wonder why Tamahiko is like that, he must feel so useless and there's no point in living anymore because he is a 'failure' as the successor of his family which is a respectable and high-class family. What's really sad is that Tamahiko is being treated like that as if everything is his fault when he is the victim. But that's what "normality" was like in that era (even now it still exists..) Like it or not, Tamahiko has to accept it.

I'm very grateful that he got Yuzu as his life partner, but Yuzu can be comfortable like that (besides because she is a polite, sweet and kind girl) also because of how Tamahiko responded or said to Yuzu when they first met (Yuzu's words in episode 1). So I hope Tamahiko can become a more positive person, Yuzu can feel really loved and happy by Tamahiko and they both have sugary days together~

Tamahiko's family is quite stupid, at least the father, the sister is between her wanting to tease her brother about what happened or is she trying to get closer in some way (that's me being positive)

I know that Japan, especially in the past,to honor his family and not bring a bad reputation to the family, I don't know how close the anime is portraying reality, for him to be considered dead just for not being able to write with his right hand (or was it left?), even other than that it's not something that actually happened, it's been nice to see the interaction between the two, she's not in a good situation either, she was sold by her own family to be the wife of a stranger, lucky for her that Tamahiko is not a bad person, and both can make this situation less worse, unfortunately this calm was interrupted by the arrival of tamahiko's sister

We're now in Taishou 11 (1922), Early Spring

And this time, well unexpected moment. Cause his father really throw Tamahiko out a lot lately by considered him dead. Well he did do it for the sake of keeping their family reputation especially for the sake of their marriages too.

I feel bad for him, and he end up falling into fever from the extreme stress. But don't worry, he recovered anyway. I still love Tamahiko x Yuzu interaction. One of the best ship in Fall 2021 XD

Oh yeah, he did ruined Yuzu's kimono since his illness caused him to throw out. Oh well, buying a new kimono and I like her light pink kimono which I find it really cute XD

And woaaaaah, there's a new character coming up next episode, an imouto of Tamahiko-sama, sounds interesting. Gonna wait for this moment on next Saturday.

Beautiful date in Tokyo. Happy Yuzuki is a delight. :D

Interesting that the father has a given name. Tamayoshi. In the manga his given name was never specified.

Yuzu is too perfect and only exists to make him happy even though she's only known him at this point for, what, a week?

According to the manga, Yuzuki arrives in November 1921 and this episode takes place in early 1922. Tamako arrives in spring (no exact date given). So Yuzuki has been there at least a month or two.

Such a cruel father but who tf cares about him. Yuzuki's such a sweetheart, the words she speaks to Tamahiko are so sweet. I'm jealous of him for having such a lovely future bride.

His little sister is here and she seems like a bitch but will she turn out to be someone who's secretly very fond of her big brother?

The father didn't want a cripple as the next head of the family. The future leader of a rich and influential conglomerate should symbolize strength and stability. Having someone "disabled" would make them look weak. Societies back then in almost every country view people with disabilities as a social stigma. Awareness for the disabled didnt exists back then.

Then you pass over the MC and choose the younger son while making the MC live away from the estate (pretty much how they were doing it before). Acting like he died makes 0 sense. Now you are adding a lie that you have to tell to other rich & influential families even though never mentioning him works just as well.

Easier said than done. Like I mentioned before; a disabled person back in those days was a social stigma and the father(who pretty much established as being an asshole) doesn't want to be associated with him in any capacity.

He practically disowned him in every facet(except financially). The social circle around the father would actually accept the fact that a disgraced and disowned child is basically dead to them as well and he would have no reason to lie about someone he ostracized. "Persona non grata"

I know, what I’m saying is that lying about him dying makes no sense. It’s just another contrived reason for the MC to wallow in self-pity and have the perfect, child love interest baby him to make him feel better. This did not feel like a realistic nor reasonable decision, hense my criticism.

I’m not even watching this anime anymore, so I don’t really care about furthering this discussion. Cheers.

Aaww... Let's start the morning with a sleepy walk to the steamy-bathroom to make the rest of the day become full of "Energy". ;)
And that "Energy" should still conserve for the episode if only Tamahiko didn't receive double"Attack", both from the mail and his sister.

It was a good thing Yuzu is with Tamahiko, otherwise he would kill himself after being declared dead by his father.

Surprised the little sister arrives. I wonder how things will end up.

Also, what era or year does this represent, since there's not just electricity, but escalators and elevators too.

Another dose of sweet and caring Yuzu :D.

Poor Tamahiko his father & family considered him as good as Dead. They keep adding Oil into the fire into his life. Good for him sweet and caring Yuzu tried her best to be always beside him. She nursed him with great care, even until her one and only kimono worn out because of her hard work.

Tamahiko and Yuzu went to wholesome little trip to Tokyo to buy Yuzu a kimono as a token of gratitude as she nursed him and made him feeling better. Some cute and wholesome moments of them while doing little sightseeing and enjoying the city. As usual Yuzuki thoughtfulness depict here as she directly ask Tamahiko to going home as soon as she saw he looking at one happy family.

A surprise at the end when suddenly Tamahiko lil sis, Tamako came to the villa and seems wanna to stay awhile in there and as usual her demeanor was kinda similiar to the father as he assumed her brother as good as dead too. Really excited to see next episode of Tamako staying together with them.

Ok so we know it takes place in the 1920s and technology probably isn't advanced enough to compensate the disabled. But is that so bad to be disowned? Or is it more of a they are rich and it's a status thing and his whole family is just a bunch of dicks.

I'm not that knowledgeable about taisho period but this doesn't feel very historically accurate. Both characters act and talk like any other middle or high school anime protagonists. Writing in general seems pretty amateurish. Main character's family is portrayed in an overblown manner like some cartoon villains. The author needed the main character to be depressed but couldn't come up with proper circumstances leading to it, while having a leeway to put anything in the story thanks to making him wealthy.

I doubt even in early 20th century Japan second son would be basically disowned for suffering an injury that doesn't make him unable to function in the society. He had hurt his dominant hand. For a son of a wealthy family it shouldn't be a problem to just learn to use the other one. His work would probably be mainly to take care of family business anyway. Hell, he can afford to have a scribe for that. And he's just a second son, he's not the heir. Even if his father were such a tyrant blaming him for the loss of his wife (much better reason to be pushed away by the family than just damaged hand by the way), he could just live in the background without all this melodrama.

Even more jarring is his depression being a result of being pushed away by his family. Not the death of his mother before his eyes but being sent to a villa in mountains, while having all necessities provided to him. Considering the size of the property and his damaged hand, he probably even has someone to take care of the house and the garden. Even if you consider the loss of his mother, his life is still something many would find enviable. And that's even before getting a perfect bride.

Shame, I really like the aesthetics of meiji and taisho periods. It would be great to get a series that's historically accurate. With taisho period there's the aftermath of Russian-Japanese war and the battle of Tsushima, I World War, Washington Naval Treaty and brewing before II World War. Even a simple romance story in this setting could be a fascinating watch. Main characters here are not peasants to have all of that just pass over them without notice.

I don't even want to delve deeper into characters, since just thinking about all the faults of the setting is draining enough. You can immediately spot it's a shoujo disguised as a shounen by the quality of the writing. Like a majority of shoujo series, it's on the level of fanfiction.
