Mm, it seems their coach expects a lot from the team with all that training.

However, the practice match scheduled for this episode is also a tough team. Tbh, I think this episode is a great opportunity for Nozomi and the rest of the team to improve themselves. Nozomi also maintains a positive attitude, something that I believe is important for the entire team.

damn new coach should've at least given them a week to train lmao. going after a powerhouse when the team isn't even used of themselves, but ig thats the point ? to use this as a motivation to improve themselves. rly hope the animation improves too, it seriously doesn't feel like a sports anime. i dont feel any tension, nervousness, stuff like those that gets you caught up in whats on your screen

What a return to form for the crowned champion Naoko Nomi, coming back to coach the Warabi Seinan girls' soccer team and getting all the hate.

Nomi already arranging for a friendly match between schools, she can't wait for the matches of the future generation to continue the rivalry. Nonetheless, the match between Warabi and Kunogi, with the condition that if Warabi scores a goal and the Kunogi girls forfeiting their chance if they do so, it's a massacre match and world for only the fittest of players.

"Failure is the mother of success", and Coach Nomi takes that seriously to heart whilst balancing the art of the sport of girls' soccer being a reality. With some impressive players worth rivalling against, the Warabi girls (espcially Soshizaki) have a lot to do.

This is but the starting point.

This is great, really loving this. Definitely gonna be my dark horse of the season.

I'm guessing Non-chan wants to be excited before she can perform, likely why she was spaced out during the practice.

The game is surprisingly fun to watch, Non-chan getting exciting watching the opposing team make their plays gets me a little excited too. Really looking forward to seeing her step up her game along with the rest of the team.

Watching the football anime together with the real football match is a kind of new experience.

Training against the strongest team, surely they will destroy you. But, you will gain a lot of new experience from this training match.

Uwaaa Naomi's one of those oni coach, she's brutal. The practice game is brutal and Onda hasn't even touched the ball that much. Everyone thinks of her as a nobody lol. I hope she shines in next episode.

Stiff animation aside, at least I'm still enjoying the content of it. Needed it after such a dreadful Tottenham-Man United game. These women are definitely better than most of the Spurs players I'm seeing for the past few months now.

Nozomi Onda "Non-chan" is basically useless in this episode. I know she'll get to shine eventually, she's the protagonist anyway. But I hate every single second watching her doesn't even try kicking the ball.

Wow! Such a good start so far. This is really fun to watch.
I really like the art style of the characters although I got confused sometimes.
Nomi looks really determined to coach these girls to success. And Non-chan I love how she is more admiring the other team in a positive wait than the other way around.

Experience in matches can go along way. Plus with the right coach, a team can really go places. Evidence of that is within todays game. Certain coaches can get the best out of players, and we'll see if this new coach can do that.

Basic of sport anime episode: Play stronger team to learn. Nothing unexpected there.

But seriously Nozomi is kinda dubious, first episode she was like "I'm too good for women football", but this episode she was just spacing out. Meanwhile the other girls are putting their hearts.

A coach like Noumi is needed to whip such a chaotic team into shape. Aya with her oujo-samaness shouldn't change, tho.

Feel the same. This is super fun to watch with all these hilarious antics and facial expressions. The soccer playing itself is nice too.

Last episode I wrote that they managed to depict the playing pretty well, this episode was the complete opposite. I guess anime is made by people that usually don't have any affinity for sports, but seeing football depicted in that way (people just standing around passing the ball) is so incredible bad...
A sport where everything and everyone is in motion at basically all times, depicted in a way not even seniors would play really hurts.
The way they depict the main character doesn't help as well, she is just watching, not even part of the match, why would any coach leave such a person on the field? This would be a very short season if we follow the main character and use real world logic. After such a display in the first half she would just get subbed out and that is that.

"Does women soccer have a future?" Hmm ngl but the coach asks somehow the real important question here. I watch so many games (CL, EL, Bundesliga, La Liga, Serie A, Premier League etc.) but never watched any women football game...so I feel his worries should be considered and I have the feeling it will be an important topic in this anime as well later on......

Playing against stronger opponents is always great, I mean which team doesn't want to play against Munich, ManC or PSG (in my opinion the strongest three teams rn)? Everyone would love to have the opportunity, so I think they will get important experiences from this.

number 10. new Messi incoming, at least she didn't lost three el clasicos in a row.

Always love the fence in this anime where everyone is a magician.

Good episode. Football seems very time consuming and difficult to animate. My expectations were low before starting the series but it's been better than what I expected.

Here in México there's la liga mx femenil, teams like chivas, america, cruz azul, tigres, pumas, xolos and more are part of this but the matches are not broadcasted, I guess because of time slots (you know, a match ends, another starts right away), but afaik in cable channels those are aired a couple of days later.

Didn't like the episode at all, but that's alright, I never like when the antagonists get their episode to show off.

Soshizaki is my favorite protagonist as of now, but I can't wait for Non-chan to show her kills to the other team's number 10.

A lot of comments under in crunchyroll's release say that this isn't soccer or this isn't what they are accustomed to. This is exactly what the Red Oni coach just said: possession soccer/football. You just aren't in third person perspective when you're watching a broadcasted match, these girls are. I am not too fond of the stiff animation, but the camera pans were good.

And of course, possession football is boring. Boring to see to the other team, and to the other team's fans. And I declare myself a fan of Warabi.

Not sure what they're on about. If anything that's the strength of this series. The terms and how opponents adjust is realistic.

Watching Cramer>>>> watching UTD play

Seeing the coach have a fangasm at ito’s quality was hilarious lmao. This show has such a cool charm to it. I’ve not seen too many sports anime, so this is near the top of the list for me. I think it’s great that women’s football is getting some shine with this too. The tactics and formations are all very realistic too. Good job from the author.

Yeah this isn’t looking too hot right now. The character art is just plain bad, the soccer games lack coherent direction, and Onda is useless fangirling or spacing out instead of actually doing something. While I believe the story to be average, everything else around it is either mediocre or bad. Kind of a shame.

Everything about this is so spiritually and physically stiff that it's practical comedy in an ironic way.
The very perplexing and annoying comedy of YLIA coupled with the shambleful-looking animation.

I wasn't a fan of the manga despite acknowledging the commendable spirit of "girl power" in sports and stuff.

Nothing really happened in this episode. While I like what technically happened, (their match against a team that absolutely outclasses them), there isn't anything that really leaves me feeling impressed by this so called powerhouse. As with episode one, the animation feels janky. Football is an exceptionally fluid game, and having everyone stand still for so long makes it feel completely fake. Not to mention that one block the keeper did at the start of the match resulted in everyone just forgetting about the ball. It didn't go out of play, why did nobody chase the rebound? The movements just don't feel natural, which was one of my biggest qualms with episode one as well.

I liked the football jokes and references so far though, no idea why I found it so funny when they mention Naoko won the bundesliga, nice touch. The characters seem okay, but so far pretty flat. It is only episode two, but to make a comparison that's been made a fair amount already, Haikyuu had already managed to achieve much more in terms of characterisation halfway through episode 1 than this show has so far.

Anyway, we'll see how this show turns out. I don't have the highest hopes, but I will watch it all.

What tactics? There was a very very passing mention of defensive football, although they played 5 at the back without any natural wing-backs at all. The show's take on tiki-taka was pretty confusing. Of course they wouldn't play it to the level of, let's say, Gaurdiola's teams, (they're 15 after all), but claiming that possession football results in lesser passing oppurtunities because the players are "jumbled up" is complete nonsense. Possession foobtall is based off of movement off the ball and exceptional creative talent. The idea is that the players make space for themselves, something we saw absolutely nothing of. I can't even say the team's style was total football, it didn't even reach that level.

Also even more criminally they claimed that football boils down to possession and counter-attacking. Aside from just being wrong, it belies the true variation in how teams line up. "posession football" after all is not just one kind of tactic. Liverpool and Manchester City both play 'possession football', and yet they're both exceptionally different.

I don't see how this appeals to someone who enjoys football in real life, frankly.

The match they played this episode was really... boring. Still not sold on this anime.

Also the way they "introduced" the explanation on counterattack and possession soccer felt very unnatural. You have these two girls who already play and understand soccer telling each other about counterattacking and possession. It was really weird.

Damm the quality of the team really is jaw dropping. Still that was one hell of a first encounter that Naoko had with her new charges. That Okonomiyaki sure looks tasty. Perfect food after a hard days training. Still their first match sure had one hell of an opponent even as just a friendly game. As expected Kunogi academy sure has some impressive players within their ranks. Overall a decent ep that through intro of the new coach and the match against Kunogi academy served to add some great tension to the ep while allowing us to see how the team fares against pros. Information conveyance was also on point and easy to understand and follow as well. First half of the the match was pretty interesting but with seven goals to their opponents the girls sure have a steep wall to overcome. Curious to see what happens next though. Looks like the coach has some grand plan for the team though.

Pretty good episode! I really enjoyed it. Just really hyped for Onda to finally show off on these girls. That game should be enough to show Onda that girls soccer is exciting. Also like the addition of Coach Naoko, she's great. Itou was also pretty cool, the prodigy from the other team. Looking forward to the next episode.

I couldnt like how Nozomi was like "wao OoO" for a reception and did nothing on 1st half, oh, but last ep she said there was no girl in her team as good as her, I really hate those things done on a show, at least in the preview of next ep it looked like she dribbled the 10 Haruna, so I´m having high expectations

Edit:
After reading a few of the recent responses to this i think i might give the manga a try, admitidelley the animation in this isn't the best especially for something like a sports anime, i think I'll give the manga a shot soon, or maybe after this series ends

What do you guys think about the current score of the show? Isn't it a little TOO low?

Apart from the stiff animation and janky visuals at times, I find the show pretty entertaining so far.

The Ending is gorgeous tho, I can tell the animators went all out with that little sequence of the soccer game in the ending lol, sucks they didn't stick with that style for the whole show (Altough I think that sequence uses rotoscoping)

I assume visuals & animation are the main reason for the low score. I didn't expect much animation wise when I saw the studio so that helped I guess. As someone who grew up with football and played on teams, this is everything I could ask for. I'm not sure how entertaining it would be for someone who is new to the sport but I don't think it's bad at all.

I do think what is here could be good, it has all the makings of a good sports anime, it just doesn't have the grip that most posess and I think that is in part due to the poor animation quality.

Same here, I wasn't expecting much in terms of visuals (apart from the non-related fact that this came from the same author of Shigatsu), but story and sportswise I pretty much liked it so far. Woman's football is an intersting subject for an anime/manga to engage it.
