Man, you gotta feel bad for Satoko. While she wasn't really forced, Rika still dragged her into living HER dream, I mean, given how Satoko grew up, Rika is her whole life so she really had no choice.

The funny thing is that I was sure Satoko was going to fail and I was already sad... but she actually made it, good for her! The bad thing is that making it ended up being worse. It must be horrible to have tried so hard for the other person, only to end up not fitting in and end up distancing yourself more and more from that loved one. Because then what, if the other person doesn't notice your struggle, you drag them down with you seeing how happy they are? Of course it's not all Rika's fault but still....

I guess in the next episode we'll see how she became a looper because Satoko is already showing signs of losing her mind but from there to being a looper... let's see.

People keep saying "that doesn't justify what she did in Gou" while the arc is still ongoing, have some patience people.
For all why know maybe Satoko will end up not being the culprit and R07 is trolling with some of the clues from Wata/Tatari and that last scene in Nekodamashi (oh Rika this's just a water gun i got as a trap ohohoho) and Satoko ends up being a looper but she's not evil lol.

Man Satoko was acting like such a bitch in this episode. She agrees to go with Rika to this high class academy knowing what it was. Refuses Rika's invitation to join her new friend circle so she doesn't get in the way (which is fine but don't complain about it later as if Rika didn't invite you), then AGAIN refuses Rika's offer to help her study when Satoko's grades dropped and this is somehow Rika's fault for enjoying her new life that she worked extremely hard for? Go fuck yourself.

Also Satoko's acting like such a spoiler brat when talking to that teacher. "You mean I still have to study hard? But I thought after I got into highschool I wouldn't have to study anymore. WTF?" Just lol? Obviously this is a very serious private school meant to prepare you for elite universities so yea, of course the studying has just began. I mean seriously.
At this point Satoko basically has 2 options if she wants to be a good friend and a decent human being.
1: Take her studies seriously, see if she can get her grades up in time, maybe ask Rika for help which might also help their friendship.
2: Decide this school isn't for her, explain to Rika that she didn't know what she was getting into enrolling there, wish her the best and transfer to an easier school.
If 1 fails, then you do 2 anyway. Pretty simple.

But no she's gonna blame Rika, murder her and drag her back to Hinamizawa to keep getting brutally killed over and over and over again using some magic powers that she's gonna pull out of her ass somehow. Satoko was already the worst out of the main cast and this season just ruined her beyond repair.
Honestly they could have just done a 12 episode sequel instead showing us what everybody's doing after escaping the time loop since those were the only decent parts of this season.

Satoko has a massive character flaw, which basically means she'll ends up bottling up her emotions. And due to this, she'll probably redevelop HS, since Irie never cured the Syndrome itself. Neither option 1 or 2 would be one that Satoko would do, given the state her character was in at the conclusion of Matsuribayashi-hen.

Yea I know she's not gonna do either. That's the whole problem and the reason I'm calling her a bitch. Also not sure if you can keep blaming the syndrome after time and her body resets unless the late stage just travels back in time with her mind which has never been the case in this series before.
Not to even mention the obvious question as to why Satoko randomly has seemingly godlike powers to manipulate reality/people all of a sudden.

Rika doesn't even look like she's even paying that much attention to them, her expression is still focused on Satoko rejecting her. People are way too focused on Rika being mildly insensitive (but still making an effort to reach out).

Also yeah everyone in Gou is OOC because the characters exist to serve the plot, not the other way around. Keiichi and Rena are some of the most important characters in Higurashi and they were written out offscreen this episode. We didn't even get to see them graduate or anything.
rika heard the girl telling them to go to the parlor 5 seconds later with no issue. if she heard her, she had to have heard the other girl. its obvious whats going to happen next week considering how st. lucia was portrayed in umineko. this will probably happen again after satoko gets bullied

and the pacing was already shit this week. wasting time to focus on characters that aren't immediately relevant to the matter at hand would just make it worse

It's the way Rika is portrayed in that scene. She's extremely focused on Satoko's reaction and it even took a few seconds to actually answer the girl because she was mildly sad/disappointed.
Also you are acting like these girls are constantly bullying Satoko. The first they meet Satoko literally mocks their way of doing things. The second time she rejects Rika's effort in a somewhat rude matter. If she had told them "Sorry I can't I have to study" they probably would have reacted far less negatively.

To think that this loop reinforced what would've been Satoko and Rika's true path before Gou, the entrance to St. Lucia and such, a hypocrisy of Satoko's above anything else.

Tne heartening moments of the two and upwards leading to St. Lucia, weird flex but OK for wholesome moments that are a rarity in the world of Higurashi. But as soon as the class bell rang, I could sense some inkling of distraught between Rika and Satoko of a "fanciful" world.

The adored figure vs. the average Joe, Rika and Satoko are two worlds apart, yet the same childish laugh of laughing it off is simultaneously the gateway to her eventual downfall.

Well, is this a trainwreck of an episode set up for Satoko herself.

You ask too much from the character that was a main element in the OG, but was forgotten for 2 whole arcs in Gou.

But if I could guess, the world seems to hate poor Satoko, so he was cured and then became Shion's bitch boy because he didnt want to return to his lil sister.

Hello? Did you not watch the loop right before this backstory where Takano randomly gives up her plan and apologizes and everything goes perfectly because Satoko is "rolling the dice" or whatever? Sure seems like she has near godlike control over the world including being able to time travel back to 1983 while retaining her memories. I don't think you can get out of this problem simply with "Rika's dead so time resets".

I don't think you can actually "cure" the syndrome, I always interpreted Satoko getting "cured" as going back to L1 levels.

Satoshi is not relevant like anyone who isn't Rika or Satoko.

how she’s portrayed in that scene looks like someone who knows something was wrong but ultimately decided to keep it moving. if you want to speculate further, it goes down to rika showing concern because she could see past satoko's fake smile vs. rika in shock because she couldn't believe satoko rejected her invite. https://youtu.be/FfH_ZxUMuEk notice satoko's behavior in both scenes are identical. this is a scene rika repeatedly witnessed over the course of 100 years. there is no way she did not recognize satoko's facade and know something was wrong

i'm not talking about the bullies themselves. my assumption that she's going to get bullied next week is based off how ryukishi already wrote this same sequence of events with ange + its the logical step in showing satoko's descent into madness

It's more likely to be some evil form of Hanyuu given the omnimous statements made by Hanyuu at the end of Matsuribayashi. I mean, Higurashi has always had "divine/magical" entities like Hanyuu or Une, so it isn't really new for the series.

Rika is written OC, Gou characters exist to serve the plot. Normally she would investigate Satoko's behaviors, though it's not like she can actually know what 13 years old Satoko is thinking since it's a new experience for her or how bad things can get at St. Lucia if you fall behind with your studies.

As far she knows it could be some mild inconvenience, no one is telling Rika anything to begin with it. It's a completely new experience for the both of them and Rika doesn't have loop knowledge.

Rika became so obsessed with leaving Hinamizawa and starting a new life that she forgot who to help her get out of there.

(Minute 19:06)

The well-to-do from the Santa Lucia academy to Satoko with Rika next to her: "What an inappropriate laugh, I can't believe that a girl like that was considered suitable to attend our academy" and Rika does absolutely nothing, she failed as a friend and then He goes to the tea party with them, how do you allow another person to offend your lifelong friend, with whom you lived for 100 years and both were her only family?

I have seen negative comments from Satoko and I think we should internalize the chapter more and realize who is moving away from whom, Satoko is obviously a spontaneous and rebellious girl, the opposite of what you should be in the SL Academy. none of the well-to-do likes it because obviously it frustrates them to see so much happiness in someone.

Satoko enters the academy because Rika asks her, it was not her obligation to go, but she was her best friend and she did not want to take a different path, they lived together, cooked together, slept together, Satoko and Rika since the 2006 season were a , Satoko's family was Rika and vice versa.

Satoko joins SL with Rika, the latter has more experience than Satoko because Rika has lived 100 years and has memories of them, so she is more mature and this attracts the well-to-do from the room and they invite her to tea activities. Satoko does not mind but does not accept to go because it is not her roll, she is more of energetic or active activities.

Satoko realizes that studying and that boring life is not what she likes, Rika makes a mistake and in the middle of the room she asks Satoko if she needs help because she knows that she is having study problems, a comment that is ashamed that everyone Your class finds out that you are a "brute" in a few terms, that's why Satoko declines Rika's help when she realizes that they were all looking at her and that's how Satoko is, she finds it hard to admit some things in front of those she doesn't know, then the girls in front of Rika bullying Satoko saying "What an inappropriate laugh, I can't believe that a girl like that was considered suitable to attend our academy", and Rika does absolutely nothing, she failed as a friend, how do you allow another person to offend like this your friend?.

Conclusions: I do not defend Rika's attitude in this chapter and I cannot say anything more about Satoko because she does not know what she will do with Rika, when she does, she will be judged but for now Satoko 2-Rika 0

i'm not talking about the bullies themselves. my assumption that she's going to get bullied next week is based off how ryukishi already wrote this same sequence of events with ange + its the logical step in showing satoko's descent into madness

That isn't fucking true at all. Rika always, ALWAYS did the bare minimum and then would give up. Hell, she doesn't even try in Tatarigoroshi-esque fragments because she believes it's a lost cause. It's the reason why she is surprised in Minagoroshi. You obviously don't know Rika's character. The poster you are quoting is 100% right in his characterization of Rika. Rika is consistent across Gou and OG Higurashi.

When they started singing, I felt like it was supposed to be emotional, I almost thrilled then I remembered episode 16 and bursted out of laughter.

I can't even begin to understand how some people are actually blaming Rika here, when Satoko does literally no effort, talks shit about girls she doesn't even know yet and refuses to study.

I mean, this school looks like a shithole, SURE, but please, don't tell me Rika should do more effort for Satoko here LOL. She offers her help many times, Satoko doesn't take it and prefer to trashtalk everytime and now you're gonna tell me this is why she became a time warping murderer?

How I am supposed to take this seriously? Are they trying to change Satoko into the worst narcissic character in mystery history?

I don't even know how it can get better before the end, it's just ridiculous at this point

Rika is just at fault as Satoko, because she should know that Satoko has a problem with asking for help.

she doesn't need to know what is on satoko's mind to recognize her behavior when she's trying to cover something up. that isn't based off non-gou content either. rika is shown in that same clip i posted stepping in and trying to deal with satoko without downplaying her facade.

The fact she passed the entrance exams and now she's failing shows she's being lazy in and out of class. No matter how much of a snore-fest it is, the only people who legit fall asleep in class are those that do not get enough sleep at night.

The worst part of this is I'm absolutely certain Satoko will be either forgiven or her memories will be erased to the point where she bears no blame in the last episodes and so they can all be bffs again.
Wouldnt say that necessarily, satoko probably could study better with rika and her friends around her motivating her and helping her, in the class she can't really rely on Rika so I can see how she doesnt stay motivated.

Also to everyone blaming Satoko, she didnt wanna study in the first place but she clings to Rika and therefore went with her. Then she found out how they're not in the same dorms, how she hates everyone in the school for being snobbish, how she cant talk to Rika in class and then Rika finding new friends. All that drains her Motivation, makes her feel miserable and she tries to hide it from Rika and her class because of her pride, which is the only thing I would blame Satoko on, the rest is pretty understandable. Life at a school where the subjects dont interest you one bit without anyone to talk to is very harsh and especially so for that school. I wouldn't blame Rika too much either but she could have simply said no to her friends for one day and instead tried to talk with Satoko in private.

I still think real culprit is...

That's a big possibility yeah, someone has to lend Satoko the looping powers anyway(and they're the ones constructing these fragments like this), whether it's Hanyuu or some other entity.
Could be Hanyuu tho, making Rika "learn a lesson" like she did to her in Saikoroshi.
Hanyuu was always a bitch.

She offered help, and Satoko is being a bitch. No one can help you if you don't accept it.

Dang, Totally disliked both of their move there.
Satoko decided to be an asshole and she blamed Rika when the others give her an attitude she deserved. And on Rika part, she shamed Satoko in front of everyone by offering that study help, and didn't stand up for her to shut the bully girls mouth up.

In the end, Satoko didn't like studying and Rika doesn't seem to understand it fully. This understandings has build up and bring us to this point, there would be some torture to Rika from the raging Satoko in the next eps for sure.

No I get what what you are saying, it's that you can't compare her behaviors that hide far more darker things that Rika knows because she's looping to similar behaviors in high school in a completely new environments because they are similar. Satoko's tendency to put up a facade doesn't necessarily means she has been hiding serious problems from Rika's pov in this scenario because high school is completely uncharted territory for Rika and she has no frame of reference.

Perhaps if Gou was better written Rika would have investigated Satoko's behaviors, but the whole thing is shit and just written to have the two friends take separate paths.

Here is a solution. Don't reject Rika's offers.

It is solely Satoko's fault for not fitting in.

Rika is a 100 year old, wine addicted loli hag and can still pretend to be high class. The Rika that goes around using onomatopoeia for half of her sentences can fit in.
Satoko on the other hand put in zero effort in anything after being accepted in the academy.

People question Rika's friendship for not defending her but Satoko does not try at all to stay with Rika.

And if my "new" friends are being ridiculed by my old friend for no reason, I wouldn't try to defend them when people state the truth. But at least I admit that I would question my old friend about their bitchy attitude.

Good lord, definitely not a fan of where this is going. Rika's too preoccupied trying to fulfil her dream and Satoko is being tortured by it. 100+ year old Rika should know better and, at the same time, Satoko should vent out her frustration.

That aside, the psychology aspect is pretty good though. No idea why normal high school life has taken over but I'm definitely curious to see what's next in store for us.

St. Lucia is hell. Trust me, just ask Ange san. The episode demonstrated that quite well with lack of ost, stressed students and teachers behaving like company bosses eager to fire employees. All hail elitism!

But Satoko was deliberately wasting her classes, so I (who have experienced similar pressure) cannot empathize with her. Dr. Irie said her HS got cured, so if this event triggers her downfall, it's poor storytelling and writing.

Also this ruined my views on the friendship between Rika and Satoko quite a bit. I do understand that all that ungodly pressure is nothing for Rika who has been through hell.

Uhm. So... Environment in St. Lucia is very toxic indeed, but putting that aside. Seriously? Rika has been through HELL hundred of times and she finally has the chance to live her life they way she wants, no matter how pretentious or shitty it is. She's trying to involve her best friend in every step. I knew Satoko had some serious character issues but the second they enrolled the school, she's looking down and mocking other people for the way they act. She keeps pushing herself away from Rika more and more and she gets frustrated that Rika is not by her side and has other people besides her. She literally puts zero effort in being friends with Rika's friends and she lashes out when she's told she needs to study to stay there. Well, hello there, everyone is going through the same shit in that school. Why do you think you're entitled to something? Of course you have to study and work hard like everyone else. While I can understand her perspective considering her flaws and being a teenager whatever, being jealous of a friend is not really a valid reason to put that friend to absolute hell and torture her again and again and again lol. While I agree with people about Rika not helping out as much as she can, Satoko will never change and grow as a person if she keeps playing the victim and not reaching out for help. Unfortunately Rika is not the kind of person who can reach out to help and communicate well when rejected a a few times, so she can't be the saviour for Satoko in this situation I think.

I'm curious about the next episodes in this arc, but I can pretty much imagine the rest really. We have seen some amazing backstories and tragedies from Ryukishi until now, such as Takano's, and this teenage drama does not really satisfy me in terms of being an evil witch. Of course the things Satoko goes through may trigger her HS and she may lose control and kill someone, however that is completely a different story than being a looper and making Rika suffer for eternity.

I wonder if Shion or Satoshi will ever show up but honestly I do not expect much at this point from this anime.
