At first I thought the question is asking what season I want most anime to be set in, so I voted for spring, because it's my favorite season. I love flowers and I like how blooming flowers can represent a new beginning or hope, giving positive vibes. So I would like to see anime mostly to be set on spring season. As I read the thread again, I think I understood the question wrong. For season I want to see more often in anime, it'd be Fall. It is quite rare to see in anime, which is unfortunate since the fall colors can be very pretty, and it would make a nice color scheme for an anime, especially for a heartwarming show with that warm brown or reddish colors. I also like Fall fashion, and would like to see more of that. |

2020 has now come to a close. Welcome to the year 2021. This GIF is from ep 10 of the anime Bottle Fairy. There aren't enough Bottle Fairy GIFs out there on the internet, so this one was assembled by yours truly. I hope you all enjoy it. ♥ The arrival of a new year also means there's bound to be some new discussion as well. But first—I'd like to announce that I have now closed the poll. I have mainly done so because more people were simply voting on the poll and not adding to the discussion with a thoughtful forum post, and there seemed to be a clear winner amongst the options anyway. Thank you to the 167 users who took the time to vote! It seems that 93 of those users are open to seeing more anime being set in the ❆ winter. ❆ Sorry if you didn't get a chance to vote! Do not fear—though the poll is now closed, the discussion is far from over. To refresh your memory, here are the supplementary questions I posted that I would like to see you answer in your post:
Please do continue to contribute to the thread with a detailed forum post, everyone ✿ |

No offense, but I doubt there's anything much to add in this. Also one needs to consider that people may just vote and that's all the input they may provide. So winter's the most popular season on this poll. Not sure if that's a timing issue, this poll was made at the tail of 2020 after all. |

Probably summer. Usually summer break is just squeezed into just a single arc. I feel like shows like Anohana and Ano Natsu were successful with showing summertime without making it seem like summer break is only a couple days. They really captured the feeling of hot and lazy summer days. |

I'd like to see more autumn anime for sure! Maybe something Halloween related too, ha hah! Autumn colors really are gorgeous though. They're very calming and not too bright. It's the perfect time to symbolize not quite being dead but being close to it while Winter is just... death. :U Actually, this reminds me. When it comes to storytelling we do have all the Mythos story types (from Frye). Mythos of Spring is associated with comedy. It symbolizes the new/birth part of the life cycle. Mythos of Summer is associated with romance. It symbolizes the youth/growth part of the life cycle. Mythos of Autumn is associated with tragedy. It symbolizes the old age part of the life cycle. Mythos of Winter is associated with satire. It symbolizes the death part of the life cycle. Someone uploaded the entirety of Anatomy of Criticism, but here's the part I'm talking about: http://northropfrye-theanatomyofcriticism.blogspot.com/2009/02/third-essay-archetypal-criticism-theory.html#TE-TMI It's super interesting to me! But anyway, I guess while I do want to see more anime take place during autumn, I guess Autumn does have a more serious tone to it. Yet I can totally see a nice slice-of-life of (idk) folks just going mushroom hunting and cooking them during autumn. That sounds so calming. Definitely doesn't have to follow Frye's theory of mythos of being a tragedy just because it takes place during autumn, ha hah. I feel like it's always winter, spring, and summer with anime, so I'd very much welcome more autumn. Holy moly, I'm so tired I don't even know what I'm typing anymore. I bounce. |

All the seasons have strengths and parts I like about them but Winter would be the choice for me. It's always snowing and/or cold for the pretty large majority of the year where I live so I usually tend to enjoy winter settings and episodes. I can't properly describe it but it just gives off a nice feeling. |

As an Australian I revere anything that has snow in it. So I’d love to see more anime set in solely snowy or mountainous environments. Real talk though, you can close polls? I thought they just indefinitely stayed open unless the thread was locked. This is legitimately the first time I’ve seen a locked poll with an open thread. |

I want more autumn and winter seasons in anime. Autumn because I can't name many I've seen using the season. Winter because most anime I've seen that use it are able to somehow make it haunting, beautiful, & festive depending on what they're going for. Totally different vibe to spring environments. Though I'd happily take a series that copies Natsume Yujinchou's idea of every season is literally a season. |

Just for reference, on anidb summer has 286 anime, winter has 218 anime, spring has 150 anime and autumn has 65 anime. Half of anime seem to be set in summer so it isn't too surprising that that's the most, but for winter it's usually because a lot of shows will have one episode set during New Years or winter break. I don't know that there are as many that are completely set during winter. Yuru Camp, season 1 at least, is set during October and that was really good. There were some other good autumn shows in the anidb tag too but idk that the setting had as much of a presence. I think Spice and Wolf and one of the arcs in Black Lagoon season 2 also take place then. My favorite autumn animated series in general is Over the Garden Wall. If you meant examples of shows set in winter, there are a good amount. The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya, parts of Monogatari, part of Clannad Afterstory, Golden Kamuy has a wintery-setting but that might just be because of the location (not sure), Kanon 2006, White Album 2, Nana, Tokyo Godfathers, Wolf's Rain, Girls' Last Tour, K-On! (at least 1 ep), parts of Berserk 1997, Vinland Saga, parts of Dr. Stone, Attack on Titan season 2, the New Game! OVA, Kimetsu no Yaiba, one of the Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions OVAs, parts of Violet Evergarden, parts of Re:Zero, parts of Kara no Kyoukai, parts of Princess Principal, Mushishi and some parts of Ghost in the Shell: SAC. |

i really really despise winter in real life, so i don't care how overrepresented summer is, i still don't wanna see winter. now fall, on the other hand? i'd love some more fall stuff in anime. especially early fall, when it's still kinda summery so you get the cool weather without the gray skies or bleak, barren trees. (i might be a little biased because my birthday falls at this time of year) |

Sorry I know that was a lot but there really are a lot of them. Autumn doesn't really have as many, and when it does it isn't as easy to tell. For example, it's easy to misinterpret an autumn setting as winter if the characters are all wearing coats and hats despite no snow, even though that's probably closer to fall. Hey, don't worry about it being long, thanks a lot for all that information! |

in any case Autumn. we have not enough beautiful, red, yellow, brown leaf animes. even winter has more animes. Yuru Camp for example is just about winter. and this is great. also many animes have a christmas episode. but sure we need more animes with winter atmosphere. i'm just over spring=new beginning=new school year=pink sakura blossoms. and summer? far too many, also alomost every anime has a beach episode. beach episodes are fun, don't get me wrong, but you know what i mean. so i say autumn and winter. specially autumn. |

I'd love to see more autumn in anime. It's my favorite season 2nd to winter and I think that the aesthetic beauty it gives off is very comforting, so I'd love it if I saw more of the best visual aspects of autumn being conveyed onto the screen. One anime that did that very well was Maria-sama which might explain why I found some parts of it very peaceful. |

As a occult, mystery, youkai fan i like summer scene that's when ghosts are out according to the japanese myths and winter cause nothing like a murder mystery in a snowstorm. But i want more rainy season (Tsuyu) scenes with rain. It's always brings out the best background art of the background artists plus the feel of mystery and occult that something sinister is about to unfold.. it also adds to romance like in the movie garden of words.. rain in japan is sooo bleautiful plus teru teru bozu |

Like most people in the poll, autumn and winter. It's not like I don't love the common spring and summer aesthetics, but anything goes a bit stale if you have it too often. With so many anime set in school, spring is a constant thing due to the start of the school year being there (and ofc the general relevance of cherry blossoms). Summer is great but WAAAY overrepresented. Winter at least doesn't usually get skipped entirely, it has Christmas dating and family New Year's, but autumn can usually be glad if it makes an appearance at all. It's my favourite season, so it's a bit sad to almost never see it in anime :x |
