That's hell of a fight Bell had this episode. It also shows how much he really has improved compared when he first appeared from season 1.

This franchise is still far from over so this season went on to develop more of Bell's personality along with some of the other characters' roles in the show. Felt kinda underwhelming imo. Maybe it's because I didn't like Wiene much. Anyways, this was an average season for me, definitely watchable but not great.

He improved so much that his Argonaut skill didn't help him to fight a one-handed minotaur.

What do you expect of him when he is only Lv3 whereas Asterius can suppress even multiple Lv6. Waiting for Season 4 - the best section of the novel as of now.

So, why did that God Hermes wanted them Xenos to go on a rampage again???

So Bell lost to the minotaur, how Ironic, but it's good that a protagonist would lost sometimes , Thought, I would have wish that minotaur would have finish Bell at once.

So, can we say that Bell is no longer with them Hestia familia???

Sorry, but no. Bell seeing Asterius as his rival was introduced out of nowhere in this very episode while his ties to xenos were built-up for whole the season. If anything, that should be his main motivator (to defend what he thinks is right) not 'to become stronger in fear of losing'. I would have actually accepted the concept of failure if that failure was permanent, not just temporary plot-device. Wiene was revived, hatred of people in the city towards him and his familia is magically gone, Loki and Hermes are actually buddies again, Ais suddenly don't mind him siding with monsters before and so on. If the concept of failure was to mean anything, those things should not be overwritten so easily.

So to me this was not really the problem of episode (apart from bad music editing) but mainly the problem of original writing. Again, I like this season the most of three so far but its very conclusion really undermined all stakes that were in play.

Asterius rivalry with Bell was built since he was first introduced. Ottar recognize him as the minotaur Bell fought instantly, and Asterius was searching for Bell. This is a scene after his battle with Loki Familia that the anime eliminated

And also, Bell considers the Minotaur he fought back in Season 1 as his greatest opponent, his first adventure. He then hears how the minotaur was reborn as a Xenos just so he could fight Bell again. The fact that he sees him as a rival isnt surprising at all, to him it was reenactment of his first adventure.

The fact that Wiene was revived doesnt change the fact that Bell saw her dying, that he was unable to protect her. This time he was lucky that Fels was there and that Dia Orpheus worked, but what about next time? What if a friend of his dies in the dungeon without Fels around (who i remind you isnt part of his party)? All this arc we see Bell failing at what he wanted to do, and if things worked out was because someone else helped. He wasnt strong enough to stop Dix by himself, to save Wiene, to defeat Asterius, to grant the Xenos their wishes. He faced his powerlessness more than one time during this arc, and for him who wants to be a hero it hit him specially hard. This is monologue from Bell during the fight:

And this was after his defeat.

I think that explains perfectly enough why he wants to become stronger and the new goals he has set for himself.

Ais understood why Bell did what he did and accepts it, that doesnt mean she is entirely okay with what happened. She had her fair share of doubts but Ais problems are adressed in Sword Oratoria, not the Main Series. The conversation with Bell actually happens 2 days after the fight with Asterius, and Ais was sorting her feelings during that time, with the help of Riveria and Lefiya.

The thing about his reputation, that much i will give it to you, because it was poorly adapted in the anime and its one of the reason im extremely dissapointed by the last episode. In the LNs a bunch of Level 2 and 3 adventurers try to fight Asterius after he throws Bell back to where everyone is, in order to protect the citizens. Most of the adventurers were rendered powerless just by his howls and the other were easily beaten, everyone starts getting extremely scared and then Asterius starts walking to where some children are (he was really just looking for Bell), but by that point no one has the balls to fight him. Thats when Bell stands back up and fights Asterius in single combat, even when dozens of adventurers couldnt. Of course, Asterius wasnt trying to kill the children but the citizens dont know about the Xenos, they just saw a huge powerful monster trying to "kill" them and then Bell heroically saving them.

I think the LN addresed everything really well, so the problem is not writting, if anything is the adaptation failing. Usual business with JC Staff.

I very much agree with you. Liaris Freese has a different meaning for Bell now. Also, Let me say this, this season was very poorly adapted. I hope JC adapts the next (best) 3 volume better than what they have been doing for the last 2 seasons. BTW, Bell always fights his best battles with long/broad sword/blade, why? Is Hestia knife just for the unimportant battles.

Yeah, after this arc Bell will finally get more motivations besides Ais (achieving the Xenos dream and defeating Asterius). JC usually doesnt adapt things correctly, but at least S3 was done better than S2. My biggest complain is Episode 12, which compared to the LN was very inferior. The Hestia Knife's power depends on Bell's power, so when he was low leveled there were regular weapons that were above it. For example, Ushiwakamaru Nishiki was stronger than the Hestia Knife when Bell was Level 2-3. The is also the thing with range of the weapon, sometimes you will need weapons with greater range. But well, he will use the Hestia Knife a lot in Season 4.

Wow what a spectacularly bad ending to a horrible season. It was all so pointless and a waste of time. This season was worse than Sword Oratoria and I didn't think that was possible.

In my personal opinion, this was the best season so far.

It's all on Bell. My man had tremendous character development this time around and was just pure joy to witness that. And even so, he is still not satisfied with his current self and wants to persist on his evolution further, mad respect for the dude.

Overall, the best arc i've seen from DanMachi as well, no doubts about it. I always loved this show, its such a pool of entertainment, and this season was just the cherry on top of the cake. I need another season of this!! But for now we must stick with the OVA.

Agreed, this episode felt so dry and rushed.
Reading some of the light novel from this thread (which I wasn't even following) pretty much confirmed they had rushed this season to the point none of the writing was really conveyed from that final fight.

If anything, I think Danmachi's adaptation is just something for people who read the LNs as fan service.

This season was by "far" the worst of the 3 mains seasons, only season worse is the Loki family side story. It feels weird that this show has gotten little bit worse every season. My reason for thinking this, is that i feel like the show keeps losing momentum every season, and Bells power level is all over the place, sometimes he is OP, but most of the time he is a wimp.

That being said, I still think it's a good anime, and I hope they are planning a 4th season, to see if the story picks up some momentum again, or the rest of the story is as "slow" paced as season 2 and 3.

I would have loved if the manga adaption had been given to a group who could at least keep up with the anime, but that doesn't seem to be the case, since I'm not at big fan of novels and light novels.

Best episode of the season, the Bell vs. Minotauro fight is my favorite of the series. The animation, the entry of Minotauro were very good, now looking forward to the tiebreaker, if there is one.

It was kind of hard to decide if this Episode was really a "GREAT" one or just "GOOD" one...

But that HESTIA-KICK was the enough little push to make it "GREAT"... LMAO...
Highlight Play of the Episode...

Kinda hated the way of ending, just leaving the combat like that... but i guess is better than just making Bell SUPER OP, so soon.. and killing Asterius, so at the end, this was better and logic.

First Season was Amazing.
Second Season, went in other direction and lacked many things...
Third Season, but at least this season, cameback to the right way...
Fourth Season... my expectations are: MORE CHARACTERS APPEARANCES from the DANMACHI UNIVERSE.

Can't believe this season ended in such an epic way! Bell vs Black Minotaur, that guy is indeed insanely powerful, even with one hand he managed to almost destroy Bell, i wonder tho if he reached his actual maximum power. I do wonder if he's already at lvl 5, probably not but after Ais trains him some more, for sure he will reach lvl 5 very fast.

Bell's trick of not attacking again has worked, luckily it ended well. Also, Hermes was the one behind all of this, glad that it ended this way, the way he didn't want xD

Tbh this season was really good, never thought i be so interested in Danmachi again, this season was a blast! I do hope that we will have another season, i would honestly love to watch this till the end.
A solid 9/10 for, hope there will be more!

Bell considers Asterius his greatest rival, so he was dissapointed in himself for losing. Saying there is no meaningful character development is really off the mark too. Bell is the type of guy that while he had difficulties he always ended up succeding and winning in the end, but this arc made him experience failure. He failed to protect Wiene and saw her dying (even if Fels revived her), he failed to solve the Xenos issue, he failed to defeat Asterius. After this arc Bell will realize how weak he is and that he needs to become stronger and take things more seriously. So far Bell's only goal in life was Ais, but now he wants to become stronger to defeat Asterius, his rival, and too help the Xenos achieve their dreams.

Sorry, but no. Bell seeing Asterius as his rival was introduced out of nowhere in this very episode while his ties to xenos were built-up for whole the season. Sorry but you're wrong. Asterious is not come out of nowhere. he was the minotaur Bell defeated in season 1 that get reincarnated and Asterious have been looking for Bell all this time. so their rivalries already have been estabilished since season 1. there's an explanation about that got cut off in anime

Little Rookie with his tomato fetish. Poor Bell just can't catch a break with the minotaur. Asterius was manly with that final declaration. Hope we get to see more of him in the new season.

Bell finally restored his honor with an L... Yeah lol

I have a mixed feeling about Hermes as a character, definitely didn't like him for this decision...
Finally he get what he deserved from Hestia-sama, a Dropkick!!!!

What's up with Freya? They have been hyping up her from Season 1... Will she finally gonna be do something in Season 4?

I didn't feel it was better from Season 2... Still same it just Okay 6/10

Bell was still Level 3 when he fought Asterius. The reason he could fight him well enough is because Asterius was already half dead. In the LN Bell states that if Asterius was at full power he wouldnt last a minute. But, as for leveling up... beginning of season 4 spoiler.

Not gonna lie, didn't quite expect the animation jump with the final fight there. It almost feels like they saved most of the show budget for that particular scene. Bumped this episode up for me.

I definitely enjoy that Bell realizes he actually has desires of his own now, which seemed to clear up some of his idolization issues with Ais. Also really like that Argonaut isn't an instant win move anymore. Good development overall.

Personally I'd say this season was a solid 7/10. Definitely better than S2 but still rather average overall. Won't stop me from watching a season 4 though lol.

How to butcher a whole season in one episode (STORY-WISE):
A whole arc building up on "can monster and humans live in harmony?" only to switch at the last part for a shallow "I don't like losing/I want to become stronger" typical shonen theme.

Dude was supposedly beaten to the brink of death and the writer wants us to suddenly empathize about how MC doesn't like losing as if he's a 5 year old who just lost a silly game? sigh...

Mod Edit: Removed baiting.

JC Staff redeeming themselves a bit with the last few average animated episodes, considering the studios, they did a pretty good to an amazing job with the animation overall this season.
Ep12 fight with Asterios was the one that needed the most care and they did just that, don't have much to nitpick it, almost like I imagined it, really good usage of OST as well.

Maybe they could have put some song when Aiz was talking with Bell at the end, to put a bit more emotion to it, and definitely, Gros fight with Bell was below my expectations, but really, for the most part, the studios outdid themselves, considering their recent years, to the end of time I will be saying other studios with better contacts would have made it even better, but this arc was really complex for starters.

IMO they get a passing grade with A for effort, and I would like to see an S4, with at least this much amount of care, we need Ryu's gloriousness animated to the fullest!

People bitching about the series at this point, are better of dropping it, it is not for you, and if you keep watching, you are solely doing it for hating on it, which is dumb, but seems some idiots have too much time in their lives for it.

As for those saying it was average, no it was not, go and compare the development and how the direction, the plot is going, versus how it was on the first season, and on many other actually average airings.

This direction, this kind of story NEEDS top tier talent to fully convey in an adaptation, you won't find that in spades on JCStaff, but you just need to compare to previous seasons to see how much the narrative has evolved, if you doubt, go read the LN and check it first hand, the evolution in writing of the writer is superb when you compare this arc, to the beginning and it does stop here.
The next arc will have arguably an even bigger impact, the growth the series has seen thus far of what has been released is endearing, and I have yet to hear any fans who have read it till vol14, not praise how phenomenal it has become.

The reason JCStaff and whoever wanted to fund the series created Season 2, was to get to Season 3, and from then on, to adapt vol12-14 in Season 4, it is that much of a hype beast for those that are aware of the developments, and I can't wait till we get (hopefully) a Season 4 animation!

A word on Wiene, she was handled well here, but you do create a much bigger bond within the LN, it is full of little details that sold you onto it way more, and you will cry your eyes out there.
That said, after this season, Wiene will still appear but don't expect her to have this much focus again, her highlight was this arc, this was her time on the spotlight.

Next time, the spotlight will be on Ryu, and it will garner her a LOT of fans, I myself become one after vol14.

8.7/10 = 9

So Hermes had good intentions to try to get back Bell’s honor but at the cost of some of Xenos’s lives. Lucky that Freya interfered and got the Minotaur to fight Bell. Sucks that Bell lost though. Also good that Ais and Bell sorta made up. I was wishing for a season 4 announcement man :( but overall it was a good season 6/10 or 7/10 I can’t decide lol.

Hermes doesn't has good intentions, his sole goal is having people seeing Bell has the hero the world currently needs, he wants to build in into that, Bell's feelings don't matter, Hermes wouldn't give a fuck, if Bell broke down inside after he was forced to kill Gros and the other Xenos.
For Hermes, that sacrifice is needed.

If Bell had killed Gros, he would have suffered an heavy blown to his psych, Hermes knew that, but he doesn't care about that, he wanted to recover Bell's honor at all costs.

unick01 said:
what is going on with the BRACELET?!
Hermes gave that bracelet before to her, since he was already plotting to have that as tracking device, to let Gros know, who would he need to try to kill, to have Bell defend and kill him instead to save that person's life.

As Hermes puts it in the LN, the owner of this bracelet will be someone very close to Bell, so target them.
There are a lot of details the anime doesn't explain very well, this arc is very complex, if you want them, go with the LN, you will not regret it.

Damn what a banger of an episode, they always nail the OSTs. I do find it disappointing how it really ended without there being much repercussions or changes to the regular life of the Hestia family, it's like this season was a good filler arc but skippable and you still would understand what's happenin in S4. Still enjoyed it moment-to-moment much more than the two previous seasons. This gets an 8/10 hopefully we get s4 announced quick

The LN gives everything more ground to stand, Bell already faced the repercutions previously, and would keep, if not for the fight with Asterios, it was the trigger for people to think that previously must have been a misunderstanding... the LN puts it in a much better light.

And again no, the Xenos needed to be introduced, they play a role from now on, and Bell promise with Wiene and Bell and Aiz at the end of the episode, there is a lot of development here, that will keep going within the next arc, which will be even darker.´

Besides, the writer of the LN does say on afterword, that Asterios will be Bell's rival and that it is very much likely the climax at the end, will be them both fighting for one last time.

NO.
Your 4th season expectations should be, ALOT of dungeon exploring, pretty much every volume next season is 99% inside the dungeon.
You should also expect a focus on Ryu and Bell development together, and the darkest season yet, it will bring the concept of survival in the dungeon up to the next level, it the studios doesn't censor it, there will be a lot of material putting this season close to mature content (nothing sexual), a lot of fucked up stuff and despair ahead, a lot of gore and depressive scenes.

DONT expect many more new characters to show up, this is about developing Bell has an adventurer further, his maturing but also finally revealing everything surrounding Ryu thus far, yet to unveil.
Don't worry if you don't like her, you will be forced to love her, by the end, you will be very hard-pressed to not love her, it is among the finest character development next arc.

I'm only an anime-only but DanMachi keeps evolving as a show. The first was a straight-forward underdog story to invest us in the journey, the second was a look at the concepts of love both in a familial sense and the worthiness of it in a more unconventional setting, and the third was taking the world of the dungeon and fleshing it out.

The finale fight between the Black Minotaur had my jaw on the utter floor. So much weight and just a testament to how far Bell has come yet needed growth in the future. I'm so glad the matter was left unresolved and thrilled there's more of an ongoing proper rivalry. Can't wait for S4 whenever that is but don't mind waiting!

WHY AREN'T YOU DEAD BELL-KUN!?
Each time Asterius kicks him I'm pretty sure he'd be dead (if he was a normal person)

It's always at the last episode where we see Bell's father, Zeus, make his cameo.
Loved this episode. Good action. Props to Tsugu for his sublime acting (as usual).
Nice to see the Xenos won in the end as well.
And the Gods keep filing each other's plans.

Really hope for season 4. Really stellar cast too this anime has.

Why do they add a twist if in the end Bell is still pure? That brat couldn't kill those weak monsters even though they're doing something terrible to someone he cares about. And the plot made Hermes so dumb if he didn't realize that Asfi betrayed him.

Awful season, they don't have the courage to leave Wiene dead....that would have served to develop Bell as a character after time wasted during the second season. Its rare and contradictory for the author to include a plot about discrimination and tolerance in a world where many races coexist without issues while Gods and their armies can do whatever they want in the town.

What a great fight between Bell and Asterius. I think he reborn as a Xenos after season 1? I don't read the original material so it's just a hunch.

I really liked this season, but I'm glad Xenos' arc is over. It'd be boring to watch another season about that.

Every time I watch danmachi I remember why I like this series so much (aside from the spin-off that I hated it). I still can't stand Ais. I think she is bland and boring all the time. I know they are not explaining a bunch of stuff about her past, but honestly, I don't care. I think there are other elements they could show.

I also would like to see again that crazy god that kidnapped hestia in season 2. His plans were so insane that I just couldn't stop laughing.

And Hermes is such an interesting character. I don't trust him since season 1, but I have to say that he is a great antagonist/villain(?) in danmachi. It's kinda hard to predict what is he thinking.

And Season 4 when? I need more danmachi :)

Nice, other adventurers were just watching Bell, a not so strong adventurer, singlehandedly fighting a strong minotaur which even strong Loki Familia members like Aiz and Bete could barely handle, how about helping him instead?

The city and its foolish residents, who were just watching and cheering Bell like they were watching some boxing match, instead of evacuating, were still in danger you know?

Bell vs Minotaur fight was pretty cool. He must be at least a level 5 now right? If he and Ais had pretty much the same amount of trouble with the Minotaur.

Anyway, decent season. I feel every season of danmachi is like this, just a plain 4-5/10.

THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
THE LAST EPISODE...and we're back to Season 1's nostalgic finale of Bell Cranel vs. the (reincarnated) Black Minotaur Asterius! The Xenos monster that's (thankfully) not controlled by Freya this time.

The trickster God Hermes is definitely up to no good this time...the "necessary but uncecessary" act of request/trade of "sacrificing" Xenos to uplift Bell's status once again as the Argonaut: Hero's Return. Hestia should've realized by the deconstruction of Daedalus's forged book, BUT IT'S ALL TOO LATE, and the "killing spree" of the Xenos is in full swing. Another of Bell Cranel's testing: Round 2.

The Black Minotaur Asterius HAS MADE ITS RETURN in a bombastic fashion (even with its dislodged right arm intact). All the memories of fate intact from 5 years ago, only except that THIS IS A FAIR FIGHT between both strongholds (and barring external parties (a.k.a Loki Familia) for a showcase showdown). Time to change the gears of fate around for a rematch (and this is fine by Hermes anyways, as long as he achieves his objectives, even with Freya in the background).

The greatest of the great DanMachi battles, and Bell and Asterius's battle IS ONE: and it was FANTASTICALLY EXCELLENT WITH SAKUGA. A tremor of regret that Bell lost this battle, and despite all this, the Xenos is back to where they belong in Knossos (aided by the Hestia Familia), and everything is back to where it once was.

A spectacular season of DanMachi...AND AN OVA??? LOLS that got me there.

Except Hermes is not the "trickster god" rather the messenger god while Loki would normally be the trickster

This finale felt very rushed to me. We had Hermes plot revealed, then it took over by Freya all the while Bell took on what should have been a really iconic fight.

It just never had the same impact as the original fight did. Bell crying about wanting to win felt shallow. I feel the fight could have been so much better if it was longer as bell both fought his old nemesis and his new confusion of his feelings on monsters and how he lost because he didn't see monsters the same way as he did then.

I am curious where the stories goes now, despite the whole 'I want to get stronger'. It's no longer just bell wanting to progress in the dungeon.

It was a decent season but again it jus didn't have the impact of the first for me.

I feel a little disappointed, in this season 3. It's cool how the emotions and plot in each episode are so fascinating but how it ends up feeling flat and nothing to be proud of. So the conclusion I have given for this season is great but not the best like season 2.

Upon the release of Season 2 and my completion of it, I was honestly somewhat disappointed in the series, and was somewhat afraid to see if the show would continue to worsen. However, season 3 genuinely made me eat my words.

I think that this was probably filled with some of the best episodes in the entire series, and I think that the story really took off for the better. It had its share of dungeon crawling, worldbuilding, and also character growth. This was in my opinion the best conclusion in the series as well. It was so good, I could not really stop watching it despite my busy schedule the last few days.

Ultimately, I am really happy for this season, I think J.C. Staff did a really great job with it. Of course, it is not anything revolutionary or groundbreaking, but it was honestly everything I wanted from DanMachi after season 1 and some more.

For me, this is a very high 7/10.
Have a great day!

This season was hell of a show. Final fight was very good too. What I like about Danmachi is how the show keep evolving each season, and the MC too of course. Kinda can't hate Bell for whatever reason.

Good season, can't wait for the next season. Oh, I'll guess the OVA first!

What's up with Freya? They have been hyping up her from Season 1... Will she finally gonna be do something in Season 4?

Not in season 4, because only thing we will have are Dungeon scenes for almost whole of next 3 volumes of LN. But season 5 will have more exposure to Freya.

Bell lost because he is level 3 while Asterius is level 6 minimum even should be approaching 7...as for episode being rushed, it's JC's fault for not adapting the LN properly. Also, if you talk about emotions..then if I have to rate emotions I felt while reading LN as 80/100 then in here it was like 20/100 when I watched the final episode.

Really loved this third season as it ads a whole different view and section to the whole story and enough room to expand even more!

Loved the last action scene and the amount of detailed effect frames they put in.

In general it was really great to see this anime again with this new addition to the story!

Well their you go finally it's over. I was debating between a 2/10 or a 3/10, but my generosity knows limits. So yeah 2/10.
For the people that liked this I hope for another season, but for me personally at this point it's just a sunken cost fallacy so I would like for this to be over here. xD

This season sucks its down right horrible. How are you a hero but lose all your important battles to make you look serious as a hero. Bell is nothing but a loser a horrible character. Anime dropped nothing like common place or shield hero them are great characters bell is the worst of the worst all time loser

This season is more of a Fillers instead of sequel, what's the point of putting irrelevant characters into the story ? they should've focused on the main story instead of this bullcrap. Plus, the MC was constantly got beaten up so many times, what an actual fk ? and the overrated harems reallt turned me off, i barely finished watching this season.
