Come on, if a history is about "TIME TRAVEL", so it is not far from this kind of plot. My surprise is that i didn't believe that this aspect would come to the CENTER of Re:Zero plot this way. Of course, as an artifice from Tappei only for bring more psychological torment to our best boi Subaru, in this "Evangelion" of Isekai. Rob7 said: *No spoilers please* Just theorizing about what we have in hands from the plot right now in the beginning of the second season: Subaru's Return by Death, and evidences that Satella is responsible for that.  From Steins Gate to Avengers, the Timeline Split is very common nowadays. In this theory, when you interfere in the course of time, you divide it and both realities keep existing and moving on, along with infinite dimensions/timelines. It requires less power to just split a timeline, than to completely stop, erase a reality and restart it from a point in past. I think that is what Satella is doing to Subary, since it is easier. Is she Godly powered right now? To accomplish every unimaginable feat? She may be, probably some Novel readers will say so, but i think it is more logical to the plot that her powers are restrained right now, since she is "dead/defeated by the Dragon" (not spoilers, everything from season 1). But she is powerful enough to physically summon 1 person from another dimension, and to do the Return by Death. Here is the point, the RbD works just by sending Subaru's last memories to another new Subaru while spliting the timeline from a certain point. Agreeing with that, we can say that for every Subaru's death, there is still a timeline moving without him. 1. The timeline where Emilia was killed right after Subaru by Elsa, and soon after that Pucks End's Beast started a frozing massacre in the capital of Lugunica (at least until he faces...spoiler) 2. The timeline where Elsa took Emilia's insignia by killing Felt, Subaru & others, while Emilia... was not killed at least that day? 3. The timeline where an unknown boy was found dead in an alley, without to interfere in the rest of plot (so, Felt possibly was able to sell Emilia's insignia to Elsa without having to die). 4. The timeline where during the night, Rem, the skillful maid best-waifu for many, coldblooded cleaned every piece of Subaru's flesh and blood spread in the corridor of Rosswall Mansion, and in the next morning Emilia become disapointed being informed that Subaru just leaved the house without tell nothing. 5. The timeline where Emilia was also informed the same about Subaru's "depart", and the cute Rem had even less work to displace Subaru's body, buried in a hill. 6. The timeline where Ram returned and reported to Rosswall that the main culprit for Rem's death commited suicide, and then she mourned for the death of her sister while proceeding the funeral. Emilia probably become depressed for a time after such a sudden radical tragedy, and Beatrice probably was forgiven by Ross. 7. The timeline where Petelgeuse killed Emilia and possibly was killed right after by the End's Beast, who proceed his attempt to "destroy the world". 8. The very similar timeline where Petelgeuse managed to kill Emilia and was killed by the End's Beast, who this time also killed Subaru intentionally. 9. The timeline where the same above happened, but this time Petegeuse had not took the trouble to kill Emilia. And at least the Mansion was spared from be frozed. 10. The timeline where Felix and Julius probably was honest to report to Emilia everything that the deceased Subaru did to save her (if not they, Ram could tell it). Then the shocked and guilty Emilia returned with Ram to the mansion to wait for Rosswall (Ross? hello?), while the saddened Felix and Julius found a terrible surprise in the way back to capital. 11. Finally, the timeline where Emilia in absolute shock found Subaru dead after he suicide for no reason, at the side of an complete unknown blue haired girl. The only person who loved her killed himself after asking for some "Remu", what is happening? Then Felix harshly said her to leave the capital. Emilia, depressed, confuse and more lonely than ever, unable to face any new challenge (cough!), moved back to the Mansion... And all them will move on. And now in this season i could add a lot more of "paralel" realities, but one worse than the other. In the last one literally everybody in Roswaal's territory died! (Sanctuary + Mansion + Village). |

| You know how I felt when Rem showed up once again with Subaru. Even at this point that I rewatched the season, I was believing that Episode 12 will be the equivalent of Episode 18 of the first season...but nope, it didn't happen. Ooh, I was actually #420 in a forum topic for once. |

| I don't exactly understand what Echidna wants. Just to be by Subaru's side? What? Her monologue was very long-winded and didn't explain clearly why she's so evil. I did understand that she did some vaguely evil stuff to Beatrice, so that kind of pisses me off. Satella walking in like the bad bitch she is. This gonna be good. |
| This witch party is really good Nice Subaru, You prefer Beatrice to Echidna. I thought Echidna was a good witch but not. I just believe in Satella, as one witch who sincerely loves Subaru. I want to see what kind of ending it will be in this world |

| Loved this episode, seeing all the witches in their glory and then the 7th one gatecrashing! I wonder how Echidna will react to being rejected like that? She was clearly displeased to see the Witch of Envy appear! |

| Seeing best girl Rem again is just what Subaru needed to stand up again. Echidna is not surprisingly messed up in the head. It's definitely for the best that Subaru doesn't make a contract with her. It was interesting to see all of the witches in one place. Satella is here! |

| Can I take Subaru's place? I would do anything for Echidna. Subaru would gain nothing from this contract. He would turn completely into a souless Echidna minion, and she would say "See? now your suffering is over". That sounds great! |

| Echidna really showcasing why she is the Witch of Greed at the end of the episode lol. She was good though, the star of the episode in a sense and despite some dialogue being cut for this episode, it was a good one and flowed pretty well in comparison to the other episodes which felt start-stop with the interesting-boring stuff. Satella showing up at the end to the tea party, she won't be the happiest that Echidna's trying to steal Subaru away from her. Even got to know more about Beatrice from 400 years back through the process of Echidna's revelation. I also liked the fact that the post-death realities of past Subaru loops were showcased, although there were parts cut there too for time sake, and seeing the results of that although it also felt like the series was forcing itself a bit too much there to make me feel Subaru's despair on another level. I liked the idea, but in reality it turned out to be pretty damn corny there. |

| I'm still confused but I think what I managed to grasp is that Subaru is not so much repeating as much as it is him being reincarnated into another timeline. It's so disturbing to think. Every time Subaru died he left behind everyone. And Echidna is finally showing her true colors |

| Such an enjoyable episode. Seeing how the people Suba met and loved along the way deal with his multiple deaths etc was interesting. Echidna got the L. Tella though!? |

| this episode was definitely very good in terms of plot developments but i did find it to be rather slow as well. echidna is a very interesting character and this episode advanced on that. satella showing up at the end definitely makes me hype for the part 1 finale. |

| Maybe Witch of Envy is an entity created from Emilia's suffering in multiple timelines where Subaru was killed/ killed himself so that shadow with Emilia's desire for Subaru to live(even if everyone else was to die/ be killed to achieve it) was born and Satella herself is just Emilia that took Satella's name in the future just like Emilia was shown to do already. ''Contrary to popular belief, Satella and the Witch of Envy are separate personalities, formed when she took in incompatible Witch Factors. The two personalities tend to fight each other. Both personalities love Subaru, though the Witch of Envy personality is much more aggressive about it, while Satella is much more reasonable and cares deeply about his well-being.' Yep, this is probably gonna be another SNK-like time-loop explanation that will annoy me. How much longer will it take to finish dragging this stillborn storyline done millions of times? At least 5+ seasons like SNK I guess. Leaving my 2023 prediction here that will most likely be a case when this LN/Anime finishes in late 2020s: Satella IS Emilia(or simply Emilia will become Satella in the future) Witch of Greed is basically Emilia's shadow that wants everyone but Subaru dead in case everyone becomes an obstacle for Subaru and Witch of Greed(exactly, the Witch, not Emilia herself, those are basically different personalities) to be together. Explanation: time-loop. This thing always makes sense for people who don't dissect plot piece-by-piece to find logical inconstencies and sells well. People don't seem to question SNK or bunny-girl(that is ridicilously satured with plot holes and bad writing). Hide your shitty writing behind waifus, cool fights and dddddddddRAMA. |

| Greed had bigger plans...but I was amused by what that could contain. Now the big witch has arrived. Subs is totally screwed, no way out of this mess. The village, the assassins at the mansion, assassins coming for the village, the bunnies, the sorcerer in mummy tape, Emilia, it's all trouble. I don't know if he'll ever get out of this. |
| It's a completely plausible thing that there are worlds or realities whatever you might wanna call it where the world basically continues to spin even after Subaru died and he resurrected in a different one. Think of it like a multiverse kinda thing. Also, why is Envy the most scary looking? It should be Pride honestly but in this show she's a little girl, actually half of them are for some reason |

| Gotta love how Echidna has keep it true to herself all this time, whoever felt she would be good and come to the "good guys" side is pretty naive, she introduced herself as a Witch from the start and honestly I could like her character more than this, her shrewdness makes for a really interesting character, what she is not is boring. Also gotta love that Satella appearence at the end, I already said this on the LN thread but these scenes are things that fans have long awaited to see, the reveal of Satella and tons of mystery behind it being further unmasked... there are many things S2 Part 1 has done these past 12 episodes that feel almost like a revolution, breaking out of the shell of what we knew and though this universe was with S1, amazing truly. |

| Echidna wanted everything in exchange of everything, nothing wrong with that, and it's just like she said, she can't force Subaru to return by dead since she has no physical body, I really don't see why he would reject such a deal |

| Echidna only became an even better character after that last scene. It's difficult to find someone with such seemingly selfish and detached interests being so lovably pure in their pursuit of them. It made Subaru's subsequent diatribe appear childish and naive in comparison, but that's partially because he is very naive. Maybe it's because so many other characters in this have motivations fueled purely by indiscriminate bloodlust, masochistic devotion, or protecting those they love that Echidna's more nuanced means of procuring what she needs to sate her curiosity is so captivating in comparison. |
