Confirmation from the official twitter account:
https://twitter.com/anime_yesterday/status/1271849819292614661

The full BD box also only lists 12 episodes:
https://singyesterday.com/bluray/

The reason this show's episode count was misreported was because the original press release stated there would be 12 episodes plus an additional 6 to be aired "after the episodes finish airing". What that was referring to were the extra clips aired on AbemaTV (of which we have 5 so far, plus one after the next episode). When ANN reported on this, they misinterpreted that statement as though it meant there would be an additional 6 full episodes. This is not the case.

I'm so confused with this. Is this news like 1000% sure? Cause if it is true, then the anime has no way of catching up unless its an original ending. It does make sense if it went 18 proper episodes since there's still like 35+ chapters of material for 7 episodes.

But then again, that last episode went so far off against the material with cutting so many characters and dialogues out that I'm not even sure if it really is heading for an anime original ending and they sacrificed those characters. Who the fuck knows whats going on, this show's messing with me more than when I watched any psychological anime ever today.

Are they giving us an anime only ending even though the manga is finished/ That would be awful They would have to skip arcs and dump characters right and left

I really hope that there's some miscommunication somewhere, because 18 episodes is literally the perfect amount needed to adapt the manga, especially given where we are now. Having 20 minutes left in this story makes zero sense to me. We're roughly 75% through the manga, imagine if a story just came to a half 75% of the way and hand-waved the ending away?

YwU is one of my favorite manga and seeing it get adapted made me overjoyed, but if the most well-known version of this story is one that redoes a completed and well-loved ending I'll be very sad.

OH NO......

And it was going oh-so-well. Frankly, 18 episodes is just the right amount of episodes to completely adapt the manga to entirety, but this news is just heart-breaking (and no wonder for the neckbreaking insane adaptation of Episode 11 (which just came out hours ago)).

Oh well, what was reported makes sense:
12 full episodes + 6 EXTRA shorts (which I could have sworn the production staff could've bundled in a separate box (if the last 6 full episodes were even made in the 1st place)).

What a way to spoil the day...

WTF There's no way this can be wrapped up in one episode. I mean, I haven't read the manga but the story right now is a mess (not in a bad way) and the relationship between Rikuo and Shinako is going nowhere. Man, I'm so disappointed! Even in denial and doubt because after Episode 11 it really felt like there was still a good chunk of story left to be told, so to have it end suddenly is weird.

To be fair, even the Japanese sources were confused. This animeanime.jp article ANN referenced in their reporting also seems to talk about "streaming-exclusive content" and "six episodes after the main show" as two separate things. It's mostly the wording on Yesterday's website that caused the confusion.

That means there might be a few OVAs to finish the story. I don't think they'll be able to fully adapt it with 1 remaining episode? And it would be weird if they stopped in between when the manga is finished. Unlikely to not get a full adaption.

Maybe there will be full special episodes at the DVD/BD which are "specials" and not listed in the normal episode count?

Now I get where the confusion came from. After reading this article, it's actually saying that the exclusive content will be streamed after the main episode(as in after an episode is aired), but was misinterpreted as after the whole main show. Thus, the misunderstanding that there's a whole different 6 episodes. I'm in Japan and I watch this show in AbemaTV, and you can only watch the exclusives after the main episode finished airing.

Well cool haven't watched it yet but my excitement moved to almost 0. This is really disappointing even for someone who hasn't even seen the show. Might just pass it on for a while to see if they ever finish it, but no way do I want to watch something that starts rushing content and just ends it off on an anime-only or 75% done. Sad day.

I would still recommend trying. If ep1 turns out to be your thing, you will get a very well-directed and deliberately paced show. For me they are still great, regardless of what the end would be. But well that really sucks still. 18 episodes really seem to be perfect, given the pacing. So far they've done a really good job, I will give them some benefit of the doubt, but... wrapping up will be tricky.

"The extra 6 episodes for online distribution" would be about two-minutes-long bonus videos.
extra #5 (this one?)
(As I'm not watching the show intently, I don't know whether the video above has exclusive scenes from the main episodes or not.)

I can't help but feel disappointed. This anime started really strong, but the recent episodes left me wanting more. But if they're really going to conclude it on the next episode, all that buildup would be for nothing. Guess I'll read the manga now.

Wow, great find! The second question being asked is literally "What did you pay attention to when reconstructing the story as 12 episodes in one cour?". Seems like we have some sort of Hanebado-like situation going on perhaps.

I might someday but I do tire of this era specifically just being an advertisement for the manga. It is quite frustrating for sure.

Thank god. I don't care about a rushed ending. This show wasn't good to begin with. The story was so sluggish in both the manga and this adaptation so it doesn't really matter how they'll try wrapping shit up quickly within 1-2 episodes.

To anyone who watched so far,

So did they remove all the nonsense from the manga because it didnt really need to be 121 chapters anyway, Haru's arc with that random old man was esp stupid

is it a new ending or something?

Well that's rather disappointing. The characters really need more time to develop tbh. Up to this point, the motivations and desires of the characters have been rather weak, and I was really hoping that the second half of the show would really improve the characters. If there's only one episode left, all you could really do at this point is have a really lukewarm finale where Uozumi just "chooses" one of the girls, and we won't see any development of a long-term relationship, which is pretty sad.

Man I really liked this anime and thought that 18 episodes would be perfect to wrap things up but now I'm hearing that its going to all be wrapped up next episode. This is basically the show committing to its own demise. I really hope that this is wrong and that we're all wrong for once. The latest episodes have felt like somethings off from them unlike the beginning of the show which started really well. Hopefully I'm still holding out hope there is a small sliver of a chance we are all wrong.

So no full adaptation as expected !!

For your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him. And honour your parents. If one or both of them reach old age in your care, never say to them ˹even˺ ‘ugh,’ nor yell at them. Rather, address them respectfully.
And be humble with them out of mercy, and pray, “My Lord! Be merciful to them as they raised me when I was young.”

So we have only have one ep how they gonna end it a lot of things are unanswered in this anime. This has potential but with lack of eps for adaptation this is just a dissapointment they goin for that hardcore original ending if they dont plan a 2nd season.

Oh well

Makes no sense to have only 12 episodes since the romance is going so slow...I feel like it really needs more episodes...the characters need more development and grow to have a good ending...since Shinako development is being so slow it took me a while to understand that they were already dating...

Even if 18 episodes felt like a weird & uncommon number for a total of episodes, I obviously believe the story cannot end in a single episode (from now). The juicy & interesting things barely just started, c'mon nothing seems any close to its end.
