| I mean, anime girls are cuter than most people kek Setting aside the fact that this site is full of creeps, from what I've seen a lot of people on here seem to have pretty low self confidence so not surprising they don't use their irl picture. Obviously that doesn't apply to everyone but there's plenty of reasons not to reveal your face to the world. Also posting all of your personal info + picture for everyone to see isn't really the best idea (not like that stops 90% of people on other sites but alas) There's a few selfie threads on here though which got a decent number of replies so if you are curious what MALers look like head on over. |

| This recent trend of using your real information everywhere on the web is a tragedy and I do not care to participate in that. And, no, I do not trust MAL. As of 2020, they now require javascript to even view user profile pictures. Why? It worked fine before without executing untrusted code locally on each user's device. |
| Why would people put their faces on their profiles? I have no interest at looking at strangers faces. On the other hand if you put a pic of something well known, then it tells more about you as a person. MAL is no dating site or job application where you need to see what you will get in future. |

| Because I don't post photos of myself anywhere on the internet. I also don't operate social media accounts. I see no reason to connect my physical identity through personal identification which can be linked to my street address, hometown, family, private life, etc. to the expression of my ideas and thoughts online. I live much more in my mind anyway than I need anything tied back to a concrete body. It isn't a question of trust or lack thereof of MAL and its user base or anyone else. I derive zero personal fulfillment or sense of satisfaction from my words being linked to some picture of a face and body. My words and the privilege and ability to speak my mind are more important to me than promoting any vulgar physicality. |

Some of the people on my friends list I met in real life first so a profile picture is an easy way for those people to recognise me. Also, I'm an attention whore and it makes it look cooler and more professional if you can see my face. Take all the popular YouTubers who don't hide theirs either. |

| Because the profile picture I use here and everywhere else online is the one I use for my YouTube Channel. And the reason I use a cartoon version of me rather than an actual picture of me is because the cartoon aesthetic fits the content my Channel produces much more than an image of a real person would. |
