So we are halfway down the year 2019, and i feel like months pass by but nothing interesting is happening anime wise. Am i just imagining this or has 2019 been a really bad year for anime ? Please hit me with your opinions and also recommend me your favorite animes of this year.

It's too early to make a good judgment on that. Ask again when we're halfway through Fall 2019.

No, anime is doing fine. If anything, it's been a terrible year for you. Either you're just losing interest in anime and try to blame it on some suden change in the medium that doesn't exist, like so many before you, or you're just really unlucky and have a very narrow taste that has not been appealed to so far this year. You could also just be uninformed and missed all the good stuff so far, like Mob Psycho for example.

There's a whole bunch of options that are all more likely than the whole anime medium having suddenly declined. When you stop enjoying something, introspection will usually give you the answer as to why, rather than just assigning blame to any outside factors. You are more likely to have changed all of a sudden than the whole anime medium.
I probably regret this post by now.

Jesus, calm down, didn't mean to hit a soft spot. What the hell are you even ranting on about lol?

I made this thread because i feel there havn't been too many good animes so far (because it's a subjective opinion you know?), and i was interest whether other people are feeling the same or not.

FYI, anime as a medium has nothing to do with the topic at hand. For example: even if all TV-series became objectively crap all of the sudden or even dissapeared entirely, the medium is still the same as before, the series are not since they either lowered in quality or ceased to exist.

It's hard to say for sure just yet. I'm still hopeful it will get better. But so far it hasn't been very impressive. For me it's probably the worst year since I began to regularly watch ongoings. But there are some interesting things planned for next 2 seasons, so let's see. They may still turn it around.

I like 5 shows that came out this year. So 2019 is likely to bat above average at this rate.

my average is like 6 anime per year i think are good enough to recommend.

I've formed my opinion about the published animes of the year and i'm asking whether people agree or disagree. There is no yes or no answer that is the "truth", there is only subjective opinions. So before you get touchy, differentiate between someone who states something and someone who asks a subjective opinion something.

I mean, summer has not even started and already the whole year is toast for you?

Personally, I believe this has been a great start of the year, TPN, Mob, Kimetsu no Yaiba only to name a few.

How am I misinterpreting "has 2019 been a relly bad year for anime?" You stated that you thought it was a disappointing first half of the year, and I answered by telling you at least 3 anime I thought made it pretty good overall.

Sorry if it came out wrong, but I clearly speciefied that winter 2019 was a great season, not talking about the year as a whole.

No way, last season was one of the best seasons in a really long time. We got Kaguya, Promised Neverland, Mob Psycho and Dororo. Heaven's Feel 2nd movie also came out but can't watch that until the blurays are out.

The current season is okay I guess, Attack on Titan new season is amazing, Kimetsu no Yaiba and Fruit Basket are good. Don't know much about next season but looking forward DanMachi season 2 and Vinland Saga.

OP have you seen some of the anime I mentioned? Kaguya and Promised Neverland are really good.

Wouldn't say it's a bad year for anime, but not as good as last year lol but not gonna judge it, still half of the year is left. Also there were pretty few good animes this year as well Dororo, Mob, kimetsu no yaiba, Bnsd, Kaguya sama, Snk. But yeah there were lots of meh animes (particularly this season :/ ). Still looking forward to get good ones hopefully.

Yeah, shitty year so far.

We only got

The Promised Neverland
Kaguya-sama
Mob Psycho 2
Dororo
Shingeki no Kyojin
Diamond no Ace act 2
Kimetsu no Yaiba
Carole & Tuesday

And those are merely the hyped ones

Seriously, if nothing among them isn't even slightly appealing to you, then I dunno what to say, except, rather stay away from seasonals for a while xD

There is currently, from this year which is only half way through, 17 new anime in the top 500 (8.0+), and near 7 of them in the top 100 (8.5+), 3 in the top 50 (8.7+, 2 of which are Rank 18 8.96 and rank 2 9.16). All of which you haven't watched.

2018 there are 41 that are 8+, all of which you haven't watched.
2017 there are 38 that are 8+, of which you have completed 4 (Made in Abyss, MHA S2, Tsuki Ga Kirei, Little Witch Academia (TV))

Maybe you just don't update your list, but if that's the case asking for recommendations is ill thought out, my opinion is that you haven't even tried looking yourself. What i recommend is anything from the top 50. Your list is nice to look at.

Mob psycho season 2 was great
I really liked Yakusoku no Neverland as well
then Dororo and kimetsu no yaiba are pretty decent
and finally shield hero is ok

What have you even watched? And what answer do you want? Do you not notice the amount of modern SJ hits getting adaptations lately (and doing very well)? Or that there is an Ikuhara series airing right now? Or that One Punch Man has an airing sequel? Or that there is a series co-directed by Watanabe right now? Or the amount of acclaimed shows at this point of the year like Kaguya-sama or Dororo? Fruits Basket getting a remake that will adapt the whole manga? Do you want controversies, like the fan reaction about OPM 2 or anything regarding Shield Hero?

And we are in early June. There's more big names being aired in the following seasons. Either you begin to explain yourself or this is an aimless rant to get attention.

I've seen worse years for anime, it hasn't been the best though so far but there's still been a decent anime here and there worthy of watching, compared to when I was young, this would be considered a good year.

I think there are like three to five shows from the winter 2019 season that I'm interested in (Manaria Friends, Endro, The Price of Smiles, Grimms Notes, Kotobuki the Magnificent, maaaaaybe Circlet Princess?); I haven't looked into the spring 2019 season yet.

Naturally I haven't watched any of these yet because I don't watch seasonals and I'm already busy with other shows.

But this seems pretty decent, I guess?

I mean, compared to 2018, for which I just looked up a list and found that there's about 8 to 14 shows I wanted to watch (Violet Evergarden, A Place Further than the Universe, (Laid-Back Camp?), Grand Blue, Cells at Work, FranXX, (Piano no Mori?), (Dragon Pilot?), (P5?), Nanoha Detonation, Beatless*, (Magical Girl Site?), (Million Arthur?), Record of Grancrest War), of which I've watched one (Beatless) which surprisingly became one of my all time faves.

And this right here is the reason why we don't need to discuss such subjective topics. We can talk about why you enjoyed the year X however this is not the OPs question.

OT: From winter we have Yakusoku no Neverland which I enjoyed quite much. Made me start reading the manga too. The second season of Mob was superb in terms of writing and animation. I love Kaguya-sama manga so seeing its adaptation was a bliss. 5-Toubun no Hanayome was a surprise for me. I don't like harem shows but this one appealed me to the point of reading the manga. Lastly, Dororo is a different experience from the rest so that might be interesting too.

As for the rest, no it's too early to say something.

Don't know, I don't follow seasonals like it was some kind of obligation because anime of the season and because everyone else is doing so.

However, I did watch MS1002 and it was a disappointment; everything after the Reigen part was mediocre with a boring villain segment. And I also tried TPN, but found it edgy and annoying so I dropped it. The same for Demon Slayer. So yeah you could say I haven't got a very good impression from 2019 given that sample lol.

I haven't given anything higher than a 7 yet this year. Most of the seasonals I've attempted to get into could barely hold my attention for one episode before I dropped it (I don't list anime I drop with only a single episode- btw, it's a lot). Albeit, a 7 is still a very good score in my book, so shows like The Promised Neverland and SNK have been quite enjoyable, but far from amazing. But here's hoping to an 8 or higher at some point this year, lol

The Promised Neverland was quite high calibre and I'm enjoying the new AOT, I was disappointed with Reincarnated as a Loli (Slurp) and Shield Hero though.........I tried giving Midnight Occult Civil Servants a go but the first episode was really terrible, not much has caught my eye this season. When the Bungou Stray Dogs dub's released I'll give it a go, that's about it!

Oh, I've got the new Kabaneri movie to watch, one of my friends said it's simple in its premise but still really good, so we'll see :D

I think its one of the best years ever, Mob Psycho II, Kagua, Domestic girlfriend, Quinsentials quintuplets, Dororororororo, Kakeguri XX, OPM 2, Kenja no Mago, AOT 4, Kimetsu no yaiba, Bungou stray dogs 3, Fruits basket, promised neverland and shield hero. Doesn't feel any different from any other year. Stats say I watched 2 series from this year and gave both an 8, which I consider a success.

I'm a bit disappointed in Gundam NT and Hathaway being movies, though. Mostly because I rather not watch anime movies if I can help it.
