So I actually have a lot of thoughts to get out of my mind after watching this. Soon as the episode finished, I came straight here to say everything I had to.

I'm...a little above disappointed but a little under excited. I haven't read the Murata manga adaption outside of the first few chapters, but I know it does have amazing art that Madhouse did a great job on animating. I've read One's original work more, even before the Murata manga had released. The art work and animation, just to be honest, is probably a middle ground between both, but not bad. There were good moments, but there are quite a few scenes that...looked off. Scenes where character's face had a "looking kinda off" scene, but not in a bad, bad way. II really didn't like the one scene where I expected Saitama to, you know, One Punch (the name of the series!), wasn't animated. Instead, we got a series of screen cuts that kinda ticked me off. The gradient shading, Instagram filters or whatever they did to this season's art is also annoying me. The positive things? it's not as bad as everyone was expecting. I think the art work is better than the animation, though. Maybe I'm just uneducated.

The sound was alright, I guess. The opening. It was...pretty good? I want to say stuff about them, but I can't quite pinpoint my thoughts.

It wasn't a horrible episode. The animation isn't bad as I was expecting. It was pretty darn funny like One Punch Man always has been. King's antics were hilarious, and there's a huge plot being set up already. It's just that J.C.Staff missed the mark. The problem is that it was just good. That's it. One Punch Man's first season was absolutely amazing. The first episode was amazing and gave you everything you should expect outside of just plot. It told me that I should expect a lot of Saitama's personality. I should expect humorous scenes all the time. I should expect excellent animation. The opening shows the same thing. It's not just the plot that I love about One Punch Man. I think this first episode's only problem is some problems with animation. The opening told me "like, expect awesome fights, man, just not as good of animation from the first season".
The outstanding animation is part of what made the first season so special and loved by so many. When you kill that aspect, a lot of people lose the thrills they got from the first season. I'm sure I'll love the arcs and characters we're getting. Oh well, thankfully it isn't THAT bad. This is what I waited 2 years for, might as well be grateful.

Hearing all the bad stuff from people made me scared to watch this.
It's honestly not bad, there's even a ton of sakuga thrown in there too. The lineart might be a bit weak as well as the color palette, but I think it was pretty solid. This show has such a high bar set by Madhouse animation wise, but I think J.C. Staff is trying their hardest to do as they can and it shows.
I'm tired -_-

Everyone just over bias riding the hate train. There is nothing to hate here.

The grafics was " Okay", that mean it's good. Come on people let's move on and forget the hate.

It's good still worth rating 8/10

King Onii-chan xD Damn it and here I was thinking he looked so cool during the first season, such a funny disappointment, I guess.

That aside... Yeah! Genos is back! As well as Fubuki although it was a shame she only got a few seconds of screentime. I hope I can see more of her in the next episode tho.

And regarding the episode, I actually liked it, the animation was pretty decent and the humor was nice as well. As a whole I think it was a good start for this second season.

Really excited for the next episodes!

P.S.: So... will each episode discussion be full of people whining about the animation rather than "discussing" the damn episode? For God's sake, I really hope not.

Well, not bad for a regular episode of JC Staff, if they keep the action scenes with this quality I would be ok with it.

Ok, well, debating time.

I'm just gonna get the obvious out of the way. Yes, the animation is a huge downgrade from season 1. Yes, it is disappointing (I especially hate the CGI metallic parts! It looks god awful!). I think the best way to accept this is looking at it like this. If you had to chose between a good story and good animation, which one would you choose? Animation works in the same way as video games, you don't need good graphics to make a good video game. Yes, the animation downgrade is still a massive let down, but what are you really here for? Animation, or story? You don't watch South Park for the animation now, do you?

There. Now that we got THAT out of the way. This episode, in terms of story and ONLY story, it feels... well... it feels like One Punch Man! If you can get over the animation downgrade, you should be able to enjoy this fair and square! The story, characters, voices, writing, all of it feels exactly the way it should, and in that regard alone, I'd say this was a great episode!

Sure animation isn’t season 1 god level, but it’s still pretty good, and everything else about the anime is still good. People jumping on the hate train for no reason. I for one, am excited for the story for season 2, which could easily compensate and make this season as good as season 1’s.

Well i was expecting it to be worse since the studio and staff change (plus preview).
Part of the discontent comes from the style change i think (it takes time to get used to) but still it's quite noticeable the downgrade specially outside of the fights.
I feel like they actually put some decent effort on the fights and it wasn't bad imo.
The biggest problem I had was outside of the fights, there were way too many stand still scenes with 0 animation.

Honestly my biggest complaint with the show isn't the animation, it's the pacing. Why are some parts that are supposed to make the viewer emotional or build suspense feel like they're just being rushed through? And the transitions to other scenes kinda feel abrupt as well?

Let's admit, it's not that bad. The only problem is, what we saw on the 1st season was miles better in terms of action, timing, and pacing. It lacked the "ooomph" the 1st season delivered.

I'll keep watching this and see whether this develops or degrades by each passing episodes

I think it's not so bad honestly but what it ruins is that metal of genos, it looks like CGI instead of drawn and it does not combine.

Not a bad start i would say, it wasn't horrible...it was just bad, the whole animation... and it's so painful to look at Genos :/ What they have done to you my boy?
Saitama also isn't much better...

But overall it a decently good episode, doubt this will improve, sad to see a 2S like this after the 1S's masterpiece.

The anime has now begun sinking. The voices are noticeably different, for me, and the quality of art/execution has dropped. "Machine-Gun Blow" - especially in season 1 episode 9 - was one of those signature grabbers when it came to vibrancy and detail to art. As it stands, I did not laugh except at the end where Saitama broke his controller because King said he can manage on his own. Normally I have crazy laughs. I'm imploring J.C Staff, stick to your genre or match the quality or improve, but DO NOT have people excited and drop out something like this. For persons that just watch OPM, it was definitely good. For us, the ones that watch OPM with life, understanding and expectations, we did not see much of that being a pull factor. Please, I beg of you all.... Be better.

Well, One Punch Man is back and if I'm honest, is not as terrible as I expected after the PV, still has the essence of the first season and that leaves me quite satisfied.
In this episode we met King, the most powerful hero in the top 10 of the S-grade heroes, but in reality he is normal.
It gave me a lot of pity with the bathroom scene, the King engine is his heart that beats to its maximum capacity for the fear of dying.
Saitama returns with his passive personality, I laughed a lot when he enters the apartment of King through the window.
I think it's unreasonable to compare the fights, since Madhouse did an epic job the first season, but I admit the fights in this episode were decent, especially the one of Genos that was the hardest and was the one that had more action, as To Saitama, let's say that he is still amazing as he destroys his enemies with a single blow.
We also had time to see some memorable characters from the previous season as Sonic who is still looking for a way to get revenge on Saitama and the spectacular and delicious Fubuki ... she is so hot and is interested in Saitama because he climbed to the rank B very fast and this she does not like and now Saitama will have to be aware of the threat of these, although I do not see that to worry, Saitama has a quiet time with King playing video games, I laughed a lot when Saitama destroys the joystick because he got angry with King. What caught my attention is that we also had a look at what is supposed to be the new villain and being sincere I like it, I hope to see how his character develops this season that at least promises action and is something.

Being honest at this point complaining about the great change of the animation is useless, there is still the essence of what was the anime in the previous season, the music is still spectacular, the soundtrack of this episode was incredible and the Opening is undoubtedly excellent and the VA are still the same and continue to do an excellent job with their characters, I am also excited that Saitama is going to participate in a martial arts tournament (at least I can guess when seeing the OP).

This episode is clearly a downgrade compared to the first episode of the first season but honestly... I expected worse than this, the episode wasn't bad, the animation wasn't that bad either, my complain is the fight scene though, it felt clunky at times and they tried to hide it with some shaky camera here and there but it was still enjoyable. This episode was animated better than the animation that we saw in trailer, that's for sure.

The CGI arms from Genos wasn't that bad either, I expected worse but after a while it kinda grew on me, the CGI from that G4 robot wasn't that bad either, again, I expected worse than this but it also grew on me.

So far this was a 7.5 first episode for me, let' see if the rating drops below that or goes higher, only time will tell.

I am very sad that the glory of OPM season 1 was a literal lighting caught in a bottle and can never be replicated ever again in season 2, no matter if it were Madhouse of J.C Staff that directed the anime adaptation. That aside, I've never read the manga/webcomic in full, so season 1 is my only comparison in terms of how well this season is executed. And thanks to the warnings about season 2 prior to the release of the episode, my expectations were set very low.

Surprisingly though, episode 1 was such a joy to watch. I enjoyed King's introduction and I liked his character immediately. As an anime-only for OPM, I seriously expected King to be some sort of mega-badass since the manga fans hyped him up so much. Lol.

Despite the poor animation quality, the story still manages to shine through. ONE is the true hero here. I will continue to watch season 2 of OPM and obviously read the manga in order to get the best experience out of this great story.

I was expecting the worst thanks to all the naysayers here but I wasn't disappointed by the animation quality. I think the change from s1 king to this king is the only thing that stuck out as noticeably different. My biggest hope for this season is like a 3 episode max tournament arc.

I didn't even smile a single time in this ''comedy'' anime so I hope it ramps up its humour because there is nothing else to offer here otherwise. There were a lot of derpy faces and somehow they managed to make genos ugly. I fucking hate those damn distorted loud sounds (like in fate apocrypha and planet with).

The only good things about S1 were animation and comedy neither of which I found in this episode but i am hoping for the best that is at least it gets entertaining in future episodes.

5/10 probably a 4 even idk

I'm really disappointed. I re-watched many of the second half of season 1 episodes during the Viz twitch marathon last week, and I think having memory of the Boros and Sea King fights fresh in my head really affected my viewing of this. Granted, the Genos fight didn't call for that level of action but nonetheless I was really unimpressed with the direction of that fight. Incredibly underwhelming for a series that has gotten a reputation for taking things to the extreme. Even the non-action scenes looked bad. Everything looking all blurry/muddy... I found it very distracting.

As for the good stuff... It's still an adaptation of ONE's work so that's a redeemable quality. I love KING... Probably my favorite character in the manga. So, I'll admit I got a kick of seeing more KING animated despite the execution of that stuff being as poor as the action scenes. The KING engine scene was so underwhelming compared to what I fantasized what the scene would look like animated... I was hoping that it would feel more intense. Still, it's KING and KING is great so it didn't bum me out too much. Other than ONE's story and characters, the OP theme is also killer. So, that's two things I liked.

I actually liked it tbh. Yeah, the animation definitely wasn’t the best (too many still animations) but overall it wasn’t completely terrible. I’m definitely not a fan of how they made Genos look, but I’ll get used to it.

ONE’s characters and story are really the only saving grace. His great writing continues to shine through. So I hope anime-only’s don’t give up quickly this season (Or better yet, I hope they decide to read the manga)

It was worth the wait!!!! Well the animation was the talk of the topic since animation studios changed hands. I don't know why most of the guys lashed out at the series just from the trailer' yeah the animation in the episode was way better than it was in the trailer. They need to work on increasing the framing though. Still not keeping my expectations very, I still hope the anime will do well. Whether it wil surpass the bar set by Season 1 is still yet to be seen!

Alright, I'll give this a try...

"Like, EW! The animation is so horrible! It really burns my eyes! And that art is so ugly! What is up with that stupid CGI? So many still frames too! There's barely any action at all! They never should have given this to J.C Staff! I'm just going to drop it now because it doesn't even look like One Punch Man anymore! This is going to be the worst anime of the year!"

I don't know why it is getting such bad scores and people are hating it. You will not get the same quality of Madhouse, that was to be expected, but it is not that bad either. Even if there is CGI, it is good CGI, not the Berserk quality CGI. The animation is good. JC Staff are doing everything they can to come even a bit closer to the first season. I found the first episode to be enjoyable and the OP sets up a lot events to come.

Well, first of all, I appreciate that you have produced this new season, I was waiting anxiously, but what the hell with the animation? What a disastrous animation if we compare it with the previous season produced by "Madhouse, J.C. Staff did it again, it ruined another anime.
I hope they do not ruin the story and that the animation improves with each chapter xD.

Regarding this first episode, I thought that King had super strength, since in the previous season he was seen carrying large blocks of debris. Like something does not fit me in this.

Anyway, despite the animation, I hope this season does not disappoint.

PS: Uff! I hope to see more about the dwarf's sister, Fubuki.

I didn't even tried to compare it to season 1 and still was subpar compare to other anime that is being released this year.
Even Toei has a better animation on average with their weekly adaption to One Piece than this!!, Toei at least hire talented and experience people to create an amazing animation for any great moments in One Piece.

We're having a really great year J.C. and you had to ruin it, huh?!
Garbage useless studio can't even animate static panels let alone action ones.

Their only redemption is if they don't ruin THAT fight.
