Angel Beats!: Endings sucks 3-gatsu no Lion: Shogi part was too boring Steins;Gate: The middle part was not really good to get 10/10 Death Note: Not as bad as others say but got worse Boku no Hero Academia S2: Not really good as 10/10 but really really enjoyed Clannad: Harem Part was annoying Don't remember anything else I rated 9/10

There is too much to go into detail, but it sums up to just one thing: Nothing is made solely for me, i don't take that into account when rating, but if something is going to be 10/10 (absolutely perfect) it's gotta agree with me on everything. I'll probably find a 10/10 for me one day, but i don't think it's out there.

Usually and most likely, feels like it need that extra dash of something or it had one big misstep that I couldn't look pass. Like with Chihayafuru I wanted so badly to give it a 10 but the whole love triangle teasing really made me go "reallyyyyyyyyyy?" or with something like Yuu Yuu Hakusho not all the characters got solid future direction along with the last arc being rushed as all hell.

Usually these 2 factors: 1. Ending not good enough. (but not bad) 2. Animation leaves alittle to be desired despite good story/ characters. 10 need to be reserved to something that's truly exceptional. (not perfect but exceptional)

Quality-wise 9s and 10s are the same for me, there's no perfect anime so in this aspect 9 is the highest a show can get. 10s are basically 9/10 shows that connected with me more than the rest. So the difference is personal bias, at least in most cases.

I have never given a single 10/10 to an anime. In the case of steins Gate for example the last two episodes pissed me off because they totally undermined what happened before which is why I didn't give it a 10. Same for Death Note (everything after ep 24 was kinda shit) In the case of Saiki Kusuo no psi nan it was rather nitpicky. I didn't give it a 10 cuz I didn't like some jokes and 1-2 minor characters annoyed me. Saiki is the closest to a 10/10 I have Have ever watched which is why it's my favorite anime. Also I didn't give Hxh a 10/10 despite being amazing because I didn't like Gon.

Basically I explain that in my profile. Basically I found 1 think that bothers me about the show I can't give it a 10. I only gave 10s to the shows I liked the most and are the closer to not having issues, but I can still complain about them. Anyway, I love shows that I rated 8 or more. I wonder how people can have a mean score > 8... And I think I'm pretty generous sometimes with my scores.

Out of my 9s, the ones that are the closest to a 10 rating are: -Hakumei to Mikochi OVA - I find nothing wrong with this one, it's just that... well, being an OVA it's so self-contained I didn't feel like I was getting much from it other than a nice addition. A near flawless one, but it didn't change my life or anything. I have the series rated the same though globally speaking some weaker episodes balance out and it's a weaker 9. -Hataraku Saibou - It was perfectly regular and it had additional charm to me due to academic bias. But in the end it just didn't reach a higher peak. It was all the way through a consistent 9.3-9.5 show. Which has a lot of merit on its own, just a step below a slightly higher rating. -School Rumble ni gakki - Second season of School Rumble. It's a lot of fun and I have the first season rated as 10, I just had minor nitpicks with this one. Particularly with the amount of side characters and how not many of them made enough of an impression, I think the cast worked better as an ensemble in the first season. -Sora no Woto - You know, this is the closest to getting a final rating of 10. It's a show that appeals so much to me on a conceptual level and that I am fond of for so many reasons both personal and on the series' own merits. But it's erratic. A lot. It has weak episodes. And yet, it doesn't bother me as much as it probably should. -Sora yori mo tooi basho - The highs are very high, and the general tone is I think a bit underappreciated or not talked about enough, particularly on its amazing character dynamics. However I can think of a lot of stuff I take issue with, from the repeated structure of drama with episodic climax to the issues of lack of focus on certain elements, to the bland finale. The fact I give it such a high rating regardless and even that I considered giving it a 10 for even a little before the last episode speaks volumes to how powerful and resonating it is at what it does well. -Tsumiki no ie - It's amazing, but I watched while I was watching a lot of animated shorts and this one didn't happen to captivate me in a way other authors did at the time. I can't say anything against. Maybe in a rewatch it could go up.

I very recently finished Cowboy Bebop (gave it a 9) and the only reason i didn't give it a 10 is because it was a little too episodic for my taste. If only it had a bit more of an over-arching story i would have given it a 10 for sure, it's just a little hard for me to get immersed in an anime that is structured that way. I totally understand why it's a 10 in a lot of people's eyes, though.

I give 10s to shows that totally blow me out of the water and/or emotionally connect to me. Currently my only 10s are Toradora!, Your Name, and A Silent Voice. Toradora! and A Silent Voice both blew me out of the water and I emotionally felt a connection with both of them. Your Name was pretty good, the visuals were phenomenal and overall plot had connected with me a little bit, just not as much as the other 2.

Neon Genesis Evangelion: The last two episodes. School Days and Elfen Lied: As much as I like shock value, it doesn't necessarily guarantee a top five spot. Mahou Shoujo Ai and Bible Black: Kite was better. Paprika: Perfect Blue was better. Ikkitousen: Dragon Destiny: Great Guardians has moments that are more fun to watch.

A good number of the 9 shows are actually thanks to rounding. Since MAL doesn't have decimal scoring, I go by normal rounding rules, so there can be something that is closer to 8.5 to 8.75 (for example) and it would be counted as a 9, thus the idea of giving a score of 10 is never considered. In regards to shows with 9, but not given 10: Black Lagoon: Didn't like Rock's whiny attitude in the beginning, which irritated me a bit. Revy has every right to be pissed at him. Code Geass R2: Didn't like Rolo and didn't like how the beginning of R2 was basically R1 Cowboy Bebop: Had a few episodes I was bored with. Wanted to see more of Spike's backstory and his battle with Vicious Darker than Black: It was fun, but I thought it could have explored more into Hei's backstory at the time. I also rather he spent more time with Misaki Kirihara than the other main cast, since I didn't care for them. Fullmetal Alchemist: I watched FMA:B first. Although I did like the darker tone that FMA had, I thought FMA:B did the characters that I enjoyed better (Mustang, King Bradley, Scar). If I watched FMA first, I'd probably would have given it a 10. Higurashi 1st season: It had sloowww, dull first episodes of each arc except for 1. The second episode of a few arcs were like this too. That and the art wasn't good, especially on a reaction face on one of those scenes. The build-up though made that up significantly, but still not enough for a 10. Hunter x Hunter 2011: Chimera Arc being stretched to oblivion, Zoldyck family arc, early parts of Greed Island Arc were the main cause. Might have forgiven all of this, if Hisoka wasn't cockblocked in the last moment of the Yorknew Arc, if Hisoka was present in the Chimera Ant arc, more Kurapika and Phantom Troupe battles, or Hisoka's potential last 3-way battle on the election arc, or more Phantom Troupe involvement with Chimera Ants JoJo Diamond is Unbreakable: Stands were definitely much more creative, but I didn't care for the characters as much as the other series. I still liked Jotaro, old Joseph, Kira (though some parts of his scenes trigger me), and sometimes Yandere and Rohan. 1st half of the series I wasn't as vested as the other JoJo seasons. Kara no Kyoukai 3 and 5. 3 I was expecting a more intense battle and 5 I thought the antagonist felt rather bland. Kizumonogatari III: Teenage Shinobu (best version) was short lived and III only had a final battle (although fantastic) compared to II's battles. Psycho-Pass: It was actually thanks to Shinya and Makishima and the Dominator concept that made me enjoy it that far. If Makishima would have been more involved like that knife scene, I would have been inclined to give it a 10. Samurai Champloo: There was a recap and then back to back weak episodes with the baseball and the mining one. Didn't like Fuu.

Understandably relationships like that can definitely drag a show down, but I'm more willing to overlook small flaws if the story is good and relates to me in some way. However, it takes it toll on shows that aren't as good. |

JoJo Part 4: I don't like how Okayasu sounds as well as How he ended up surviving the Kira encounter, as well as all the main characters being deaf for like the final 3 episodes Hunter x Hunter 2011: Alluka's power and how the show used it. Monster: It cucks you with the ending and Roberto's master of being everywhere at any time was nonsensical. He's a bodyguard, a lawyer, the lover of an ex-detective's wife, the lover of that prostitute, survives the gunshot. Hinamatsuri: This is more of a fault with how the story is set up, but Mao should have probably not have been introduced in season 1 and just waited to make her appearance. Like she wasn't expanded on enough in this season for me to like her inclusion.

If the show has particularly slow moments or characters that don't lend well to the story/plot to the point of annoyance or even if the obvious dips in animation quality. It really varies per series and it's usually little things that keep me from enjoying those shows to the fullest. Nines for me are series that have done an outstanding job but with small yet notable flaws that detract ever so slightly from the general entertainment of said series. a few recent ones Drifters Erased Monster Musume a few older ones Dead Man Wonderland Katanagatari Magi

It's mainly excesive amounts of blood (for those who don't know, I faint sometimes when seeing a lot of blood, real or not), that's why Elfen Lied and Kill la Kill fell from 10 to 9. The other reasons are just petty issues like a very fast paced anime (K-On! 1), weird use of CG (High Score Girl) or simply that a very good season pales in comparison with better seasons of the franchise (Sailor Moon 1 with SM R and SM S).

Fullmeral Alchemist 2003 - The final stretch was rushed and has a couple of plot holes. Chrono Crusade - Also the final stretch, it's admittedly hard to follow and the final battle is anti-climactic. The ending is still amazing, though. Code Geass - Some asspulls and plot armor instances that got hard to overlook with time. White Album 2 - Should have continued with another season adapting the rest of the VN, that wasn't a very satisfying ending. Psycho-Pass - The first half has some filler-like episodes that don't really add much to the plot, the worldbuilding or the characters. Flip Flappers - Second half feels rushed, but still good enough to warrant a pass. These are the ones that popped up on my mind right now, mostly minor issues, but still enough to bring the score down to a 9.

Your Lie in April - I absolutely hate the art style in which the characters are drawn. It's one of the things that kept me from watching it for a long time. But I'm watching it now and so far the story and characters are outstanding, and if it holds up well to the end it will almost certainly get at least a 7 from me, probably an 8, but it'll be a point less than it would have gotten if the art style wasn't so off-putting.

This is kinda a weird case for me because despite the shows that I give a 10, there are some that I don't obsess over them or I obsess with some of the ones that I gave a 9. I rate a few a 10 just because I felt that they deserved it and based on my enjoyment of it. It doesn't guarantee that I would obsess/take a huge liking over them though. (Angel Beats and Kimi no Na Wa are an exception though) The ones that I give a 9 instead of a 10 is because of 1 or a few issues that bothered me when watching it. For example: Kanon 2006: I love this anime to death! Though I appreciate the helping the other girls get over their problems, I still wish it was focused mainly on the main heroine (Ayu) and expanded more on Yūichi and Ayu's relationship after their confession. Gundam 00: For the 1st season, Setsuna and Tieria annoyed me a lot throughout the first season. While for the 2nd season, they pushed Allelujah to the background after episode 7. Fate/stay night:*Yes, I gave it a 9* The bothering starts at around Episode 5 to Episode 8. Mainly because that did not happened in the VN. Shirou was supposed to spend more time with Saber and bond with her like in the VN. Not neglect her for no apparent reason! It did got better around Episode 9 till the last episode but that is one issue that bothered me the most from the show. Hoping that if ufotable ever remakes the Fate route, they would stick closely to how the VN did.

Generally it's how deeply the show connected with me. Other times it's sticking points like the show, while overall being great, meandering for a little of its runtime, or having one or two aspects that are just too out there as a viewer. Sometimes a 9/10 is really more like the upper end of an 8/10 for me.

No show cannot reach perfection whether the issue lies in the story, the characters, animation, or something part of the anime that was given less attention. Also, if I give my favorite show a 10/10, then I would have a lesser degree of enthusiasm to watch a new season of the show.
