Oh boy, Boruto is trying to go all out on Kakashi although with minimal progress. I like how he's trying to teach the boy a lesson.

He couldn't do it alone but with some teamwork from his friends, they make progress. Good action this episode. Anko's still got it even after this timeskip.

Great action scenes in this episode. Really enjoyed the dialogue between Kakashi and Boruto. I like how they acknowledge how unprepared they are to be shinobi, which sets the foundations really well for what's to come. I am loving this.

this anime is having a lot more trouble evoking empathy; so i guess somewhere along the line somebody from naruto's generation will definitely die, because all the naruto lovers are attached to naruto characters (and they're probably watching boruto as a result of naruto)

i mean, iwabes heartfelt speech wasn't really heartfelt, it was more like move back on to the story.

but the action was good overall, i thought i would see more of mitsuki's 'blue aura,' that was shame; kakashi needs sharingan again, its just not kakashi without it.

Really cool episode. I was stunned when Sarada & Boruto tricked Konohamaru.

Boruto with a sharingan, thats rare, even though it's just Sarada using transformation jutsu.

next week we got to see new character, I thought it was sharingan, then I see the knuckles and realize it was Kurenai and Asuma child.

So after such a good setup last week and kakashi coming in to add more of a serious element to the anime, one of the many things we have been missing.... The episode starts off sooooo good, Kakashi laying down the wise words, telling Boruto this isnt just fun and games this is serious. I was so happy with the potential to build up Boruto as a character here and then all of a sudden, everyone stats thanking him for how he affected them positively, which is all good, but not the time and place. Then after they all had their little say, it was at this point i realised that they just butchered what Kakashi said and basically brushed it under the rug and once again, it became about friendship, sunshine and daisies. I know Kakashi is big on the comrade stuff, but to have a go at Boruto for thinking being a ninja is chilling with your friends when really there is more to it and having resolve is important, to then passing him for being all friendshippy and the idea of resolve is completely left behind here, just ruined all that buildup. He thought the class was horrible for no resolve then passed them for being good pals completely abandoning what he said and wanted to teach them. The whole resolve to stay together stuff just didnt cut it for me this episode. Too much power of friendship going on

These 2 last exam episodes were pretty good overall. I liked Kakashi's speech at the end about people who break the rules being scum but those who don't care for their friends or something are even worse, I think Naruto said that in Shippuden, or was it Obito, I know I've heard it somewhere before. Pretty nice callback.

Looks like they're forming the squads next week. Most of them are pretty obvious by now tho.

Looks like they'll be forming three man squads next episode.

Oh boy,... Apologetic rhetoric, comes forth.
This is the age of peace that they fought for with insurmountable sacrifices. But then, new generation of Ninjas comes in - most of them know neither need nor desire to become professional black-ops operatives protecting peace that is seemingly protected by their predecessors. With that attitude, most of them would be unprepared when the alien invasion 'n stuff happens. But what was the point of fighting for the future when they want to keep producing soldiers like Mist village did? No point, exactly. Kakashi understand that and tried to both make the children, almost effortlessly growing up under their parents protecting, to get serious in trying to defeat him. (And there begins the obvious "friendship, unity, love, kamaradierie everyone is supposed to strive for) But because it would have simply made no sense to make them go egoistic just to become a ninja when for most it means little, Kakashi made stuff up (usual trick) to have them feel in crisis, which they overtuned together in the end (sick moves from Kakashi, kicking children around). Most chidlren, as already stated, were there because of Boruto's aura of heroism, and they would have never abandoned their friends to begin with. And when it came to the decision, whether to go one on one to try to become a ninja, or bet on Boruto and kick some Kakashi's, they obviously were all for the latter. Which was always the point of the exam. The previous era of crisis came not only because of those said aliens, but also because of lack of compassion, strong bounds and sense of being a part of something bigger. This is exactly what they want to encompass in the new generation, so that they not only become guardians for the age to come, but would not stray from the Path as well.
To me this is honestly natural and the way it is supposed to be. I guess it depends on how you perceive the story as a whole yourself, as well as those actions and their intentions. But if you try asking me, someone is wrong.

Yeah it was hard to catch since you can only see her for a second or less :D but she has the same kekkai genkai as kurenai. She was an academy teacher when naruto was a student so I guess she probably retired already.^

It is understandable why they are so different from the older generations as it is an age of peace, so their ambitions and understanding of the world is going to be different, i get that. Part of Naruto is the passing on of the will of fire, the passing on of legacy (think back to Hashiramas and Madaras last conversation) and just because the adults are there now, they dont live forever, who is going to protect the peace once they pass on? So there would be a point to teaching them to be a shinobi though Naruto and Sasuke being around does decrease the threat level of any dangers and writing the Boruto story itself i imagine is a difficult task and an entirely different subject. Think back to scene 1 of Boruto where the village
was in bits and Boruto was in a serious confrontation so peace is still a difficult thing to uphold.

When you have all the kids treating what they are doing as a chore or a joke or hanging out with friends with a side of super powers, its a disrespect to what it actually means to go through the process and be a ninja. If the series wants to be peaceful for a while it can do that and still be enjoyable to watch but i dont think leading up with potentially good story lines which introduces potential consequences and it falling completely flat with execution in one episode (think previous arc with new ninja swordsman) is enjoyable to watch.

Though there first attempt at getting the bell was unsuccessful and they passed in the end due to how much better they approached things the second time, i dont feel like this happened due to a sudden increase in their ability to appreciate comrades more, more so just they sat down and actually had a plan this time, realising sticking together and planning together would increase the likelihood of success and as time passed, they understood the test more, the feeling of splitting up fades when they realise they will all pass if they get the bell as a squad.

Though regardless of all that, the conversation Kakashi has with Boruto at the start just felt pointless, he even says how friendly the group already is with each other, so is being there for your friends (which they have done all series anyway) something they needed to learn again when they already do it?

I know Boruto was then saying "I want to become a ninja so we can all stay together" or whatever he said but he was practically doing that in the first place before Kakashi lectured him, i thought they would develop his character more as i didnt feel any character development at all except from maybe when a few characters showed appreciation to Boruto for helping them, mostly Iwabe.

I would have enjoyed this episode more if it was more congruent and stayed on Kakashis "those who abandon comrades are scum" type thing and they just left out the whole resolve talk.

He may have said to Boruto he thought the class was horrible and has no resolve and that he can see they are good friends already simply to trick him to see if he would abandon them and not work as a team but he did say to the higher ups about the flaws of the current generation so that wouldnt match up anyway and i wish it was these flaws that he worked on during this exam otherwise why spend so much time highlighting these flaws.

I get what they might want for the new generation but this way of telling the story is frustrating to watch

If you're not serious about the exam then you may as well not be a shinobi. Being a shinobi isn't a game after all. Iwabe and Mitsuki's ambush was interesting. Still its nice to see that the others acknowlege that Boruto has helped them all in the past. Their counterattack though was really something and im glad that in the end they got serious. So the only fail to fail was if you leave your friends then huh. Well now Boruto and his friends are now official Genin congrats to them.

this was one of my favorite episodes in this series to date. and it only took us 37 episodes to get here.

i appreciated how it truly felt like an episode of naruto rather than the cheery slice of life overall theme that seemed to mark boruto. a lot of people have been commenting on the cheese of the power of friendship and how kakashi seemed to flip flop. the idea of friendship being the most important factor is cheesy, but this that’s what shonen series usully come down to. further, whether kakashi was just riling up boruto or slightly believed his own words, the overall ideal behind the exam aligns incredibly well with his own beliefs that we saw when he was testing squad 7 in the original series as well as what he grew to believe after his backstory with his own genin squad.

it was nice to see some of the abilities of our lesser known classmates as well. i’m incredibly hyped to see who each squad’s senseis are going to be. konohamaru seemed the most fitting for boruto’s, but looking at the pv it looks like it might be kurenai and asuma’s child? (i was wondering when she’d finally appear in this series after rereading the final chapter of naruto and seeing her there)

Eh it was alright. The problem with this series is still that I can't care for any of the new characters except Sarada and Mitsuki. That's tbh what's dragging it out, That Cat girl caught my interest but of course, she just gonna be a minor character.

As expected I'm still not over the Naruto characters, and the fact that I hate Boruto doesn't help me enjoy the series. It's not bad, but I want more focus on other characters.

Mitsukis arc should be getting animated soon, that's gonna be great!

Great episode today and the students have finally graduated to Genin! Well played.

What's interesting the most are the side characters, seemed like they got a bit of screen time and their interactions intrigues me. I would like to see more of the side characters and their interaction in future episodes.
Wasabi the cat girl reminds me of a completely opposite Kiba.

Kakashi getting scolded by Iruka was pretty funny.

Can't wait for next weeks episode, we're getting the 3-man formation and probably their first mission or so. Anyway, 5/5.

Well, I can't deny it. Boruto's generation bonded and get along faster than Naruto's and since being a good nakama is important to Kakashi it make sense they'd pass his test. Its what would happened if Naruto wasn't hated by everyone in the beginning.

Gave it a 5/5 simply because everyone graduated.

I thought some of the students had interesting designs but lacked the screen time to show us what they can do. I thought they'd end up being wasted potential, but looks like they'll stick around and possibly get names coupled with unique fighting styles and back stories.

Looking forward to seeing Asuma's daughter in the next ep.

edit: thought just crossed my mind. Who will be the Jounin-senseis for all these kids? At first I thought it would just be the Konohamaru squad but now... we got all these extra genin. Off the top of my head I can think of Kiba, Lee and Tenten. As for the no goes... Shikamaru is assistant to the hokage, Shino is an academy teacher, Sakura is needed at the hospital, Sai is in ANBU, I would see Choji working as the head of his respective clan and Temari, Ino and Karui just come off as retired kunoichi housewives.

Maybe if the thought to be retired housewives were to take up the role... oh well I guess we'll see. Who knows we might get brand new shinobi to take up the roles or some of those ninja that we gave no thought to back in shippuden.
