Best: Anohana Toradora Death Parade Plastic Memories Worst: Almost every anime from Key, they have a tendency to undo the entire series with the ending, most notably Clannad and Little Busters. Also I have not seen Cowboy Bebop but I know how it ends and that would really piss me off if I watched it.

I'm an old-new anime fan (long story short, I started getting back into anime this summer 2017 after a few years of stopping) so I haven't watched a lot of anime yet (the only anime I used to watch back then was Naruto and that's what got me hooked to anime lol) but, so far, I thought Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood had the perfect ending although I haven't encountered a worst anime final episode yet! xD

There are a lot of anime that had great endings but the most recent I can remember was Made in Abyss. It had a pretty strong ending in my opinion, and it was an hour long episode. As for worst endings.. there are a lot too but I'll mention Soul Eater. "Because I'm brave!" Oh boy..

Best ending: Azumanga Diaoh (Bittersweet endings that make you cry and feel happy at the same time are often the best. Especially an ending like this which was so inevitable yet strangely hasn't been repeated in many anime despite it being such an important event.) Personal favorite because it makes people mad yet I got a lot out of it.: Neon Genesis Evangelion (I mean, the last 3 episodes were very emotional for me, and the best ending is in the manga so, I pretty much got everything a girl could want, my emotional out of body experience, and fully explained and better developed version with the manga- The manga did take 20 years to write after all, And this is an anime original. So, yes, the source is the anime, the manga is the adaptation.) I also like School Days' ending. XD ( I liked what happened to worst boy in anime. XD) And Samurai Flamenco's ending. (This was a wild ride and I feel it fit perfectly in with the super sentai parody it was going for) Least favorite ending of an actually finished anime?: Great Teacher Onizuka. (wow, what a random ending. And completely unlike the manga.... I mean, some anime can stray from the manga like FMA 2003, but this wasn't one of them. The ending did ruin the point of the Onizuka character to me. the point of jumping the shark starts with the Gorilla suit and it all goes downhill from there. The series is hilarious. But it is just so hard to watch from start to finish.)

Best is Made in Abyss without a doubt. Tie between Koi to Uso and Another for worst. Just horrid. NHK no Youkoso did not end as bad as those two but it deserves a special mention, it certainly showed just how mentally insane the main characters are. Not that that wasn't made clear through the rest of the story.

I don't have a favorite final episode, but, atleast for me, a good final episode is either finishing at least an arc, or finishing the whole thing, solving all the questions, defeat the final villain, and, if there's romance, a kiss from the main couple Bad final episodes are those cliffhangers where, instead of solving the questions, they raise more questions, just to tell you to go read the manga/light novel.

Worst ending in recent memory is Gangsta's ending. Why? Because there wasn't one. It just... stopped. I could've sworn there was one more episode, but they just forgot about it. There's also a lot of other anime that has a brilliant final episode.... or at least it would be if they didn't decide to stick a breather episode after that to be the official final episode. Why would you do that and why is this a trend? I'm also gonna put Death Note's ending as utterly terrible. As for why, why let Light die with a bit more dignity? He's an asshole that should die an asshole's death. Undignified, ungraceful and utterly pitiful. And he stayed true to his character in the manga, an utter coward who fears death above anything else. As for best, CG has, personally, an incredible ending. Too bad they're gonna render it moot with the new season next year. Please stop. Don't make it. Do the recaps and then be done with it. Shinsekai Yori also has just the perfect finale. Proof? Just compare what people thought of the villain before that episode and after that episode. Never have I ever seen that quick a change in opinion in that many people, all at once. Masterful writing at its utter best.

Or am I projecting too much? I don't know... this may be the first time I've ever seen anyone bring it up outside of episode discussions. As for the OP... Best: Code Geass S2 (I've always been a sucker for that damn show.) Worst: A lot.. Clannad After Story, NGE, and Aldnoah.Zero S2 always had especially poor endings in my eyes. (Honorable mention to Death Note though. Light dying and losing his shit was fine, but it's how that ending came to fruition that gave me an aneurysm.) |

Best is pretty difficult for me actually. Between Shinsekai Yori's shocking yet satisfying final twists and message, Gurren Lagann's epic emotional climax, K-On's absurdly emotional graduation, Your Lie in April's gutwrenching performance and letter, and Made in Abyss's hour-long special that was really hard to watch (in the best way possible) and yet still uplifting. Worst is pretty easy though. Golden Time's finale was utter garbage, between it's awful use of supernatural (though that was always terrible), illogical character actions (also an issue with the whole series), bullshit deus ex machina, and writing even more cheesy than usual. I'll fight anyone who says Clannad for worst though. The ending makes perfect sense, was properly explained and foreshadowed throughout the series, and wraps up the character arcs in a way that works best with its themes. It's not a deus ex machina, it's not meant to just give respite from the emotional ringer, it's just a damn good ending (but not the best).

I decided to explain WHY I didn't like this ending. And yes, it is because it is nothing like the manga ending. The manga ending which actually fits in with the themes. I can handle an imperfect ending, don't get me wrong.... but what I can't handle is practically the entire second half slogging until the ending with a total WTF that makes no sense. (please note how this differs from Neon Genesis which does infact set you up for the ending- and it is also why I don't like EOE much, and think the Manga did a better job at what EOE tried to do) |

Not just final episodes, but the final halfs of Death Note, Lucky Star and Danganronpa are sh*t compared to the others. For endings I find a bit worse but not much; Angel Beats!, Re:Zero and Evangelion (the original). Though AB! and NGE have their excuse, Re:Zero's final part is just... For best final episodes, I would say Code Geass, Higurashi Kai and Steins;Gate with no doubt. They are among the best endings I have ever seen and especially the Code Geass one... It's surprising how such a great end comes from a mediocre sequel. For entire seasons, Owarimonogatari 3 was excellent and a perfect conclusion for all the series. Thanks to it, I aprecciate Monogatari much more.

People have already mentioned Bebop, it really has one of the best final episodes around there, it's absolutely great even up until the last second. Since my memory isn't the best and I haven't watched much anime either way, I'm gonna say two that I've recently watched: Best: Mob Psycho 100, it isn't really the end of the story, but still a great ending to the first season, the animation is so incredible (well, it's incredible during the entire series tbh) and a character that I didn't really care much about had his shining moment. Worst: Kanatagari, I love this anime, but the final episode is nothing like I would expect it to be while watching the eleven first episodes, maybe an unpopular opinion but I didn't like the direction some things went. It's still a great series though. You know what, nevermind this, even though I don't like it much, Katanagatari's ending is still much better than some awful ones, like Evangelion's.

My favourite final episode are in Charlotte and Shinsekai yori. Most of the time I don't really care more about the final episode because they are mostly regular episode with an open ending final scene. Unlike the two anime above where the episode actually deliver an unexpected conclusion that wrap up the entire series together. Otherwise I don't find the final episode more special just because it was more interesting than the previous episode like in Made in Abyss for example. Beside that, kuma miko had a very questionable ending. But the worst final episode must be Rewrite S1.

Shigatsu wa kimi no uso had one of the best ending. It became predicatble around 17-20 (don't remember the exact episodes, been a year) But... that ending... just wow!! Worst has to be Accel world. It was a really bad anime that I seemed to enjoy. But that ending, it couldn't have been worse. Then they made a movie, but instead of continuing, they made it a recap. Again.... wow!!!

When everything clicks together, Shirobako's ending hit me like a truck, such a powerful and meaningful moment for Miyamori. Tokyo Ghoul Root A's ending also broke me, but for the total opposite reasons. The ending just taken as it is, it's just a failed attempt at an artsy vague ending, but having it be the pay-off to an entire season of rushed plot points and weird scenes of kaneki just kinda suffering alone somewhere, it just killed me.

Got a list of terrible episodes but none really strikes out as the worst. However, the last arc for season two of SAO was shit. I was glad Kirito had zero spotlight but there was way too much emphasis on a AID's sufferer who is there to die. While I have claimed multiple times about how great School Day's ending was, it is probably not the best, subjectively. However the best ending would have to be Re:Zero's ending. There was so much symbolism that any literature freak would be orgasming at the sight of it.
