It's ok for them to voice them if they're kids like Hunter x Hunter or if they're voice sounds kind of like a male ex: Luffy from One Piece, but why tf are they voicing people like Goku from Dragonball. It just fucking ruins it for me personally going Super Sayain in a high pitched voice is the reason I will never watch Dragonball in subbed unlike other animes.

it was because it started dubbed by her when it still original DB where goku still a child and it's already become iconic and hard to change...

Nowadays it doesn't happen that often actually, it's more of slihgtly older anime thing, like up to early 2000s or something. I guess it usually happens when they want guys to sound feminine, gentle and kinda wussy, I'm not a fan of it either >_> I guess it does work in some cases, for example I've never had a problem with Naruto or Luffy.

I never particularly liked FMA's Ed's voice by Paku Romi though, I have no idea why she voiced so many male characters, it never sounded real enough to me >_>

Honestly it doesn't bother me much... though there are very obviously bad ones out there... I just don't watch em... And whether it's a woman or man, if it sounds good I ain't complaining... Like I think Luffy's voice is pretty good... Suits him well

Yeah, I will never watch DBZ or DBS without Eng dub. Listening to Goku speak just takes me out of the moment.

I have been having the same issues with hearing Naruto speak every since Naruto The Last. His Japanese voice was fine up to Shippuuden. By when he transitioned into an adult now that same voice comes off awkward as hell at times. It just doesn't fit now that he's supposed to be in his early 30's. Is it so bad to hire a man to take over?

Probably for longevity. If they get an actual young male they can only voice the character until they hit puberty, and grown men who can sound prepubescent are harder to find.

It happened in Gamers and I immediately dropped it. A male teenager, is voiced by a female voice actor. I think it's just that the male population in Japan got their balls hanged up onto the ceiling that's why that's why male characters are voiced by females.

definitely a thing in older anime, it's definitely not a turn off for me if done right. I like Megumi Ogata's voice acting as Kurama and Yukito/Yue

Oh also, Orochimaru's seiyuu is brilliant, like I wasn't even sure if it was a woman or not

It usually happens when the male character tends to have a "childish" or in other cases a "girly" air to him, thus leading to female seiyuus voicing that character (usually Traps, young males, or girly boys basically dudes that don't have anything manly about them)

Because they can voice younger characters better than dudes can I guess.

Bart Simpson is voiced by a female and so is Timmy Turner from Fairy Odd Parents.

Because Their voices are suitable for the youngers and the teens more than men .. that's why you will find most of seiyuus are females cuz anime is dedicated for teens most of the time

A woman can accurately mimic a prepubescent boy's voice much better than an adult male can. Pretty straightforward. And obviously they'd rather hire a professional adult voice actress than a male child actor most of the time

Women usually voice young male characters, maybe its to make them sound more like male children I guess.

Because women are naturally more adept at voice acting than men. Same goes for singing for the most part. Tough luck.

Dragon Ball is a special case where a woman was the voice for kid goku and then they never recast his voice. But this usually only happens when a character is first a child or young teen and then ages with the series and then sounds like a girl as an adult.

Try watching western animation.
You have plenty of female actors voicing male roles and male actors voicing female roles and most of the time the general audience doesn't even notice.

The latest season of Symphogear has female character with male voice actor, and he sounded like a woman in the anime. I would not have known that he is male if no one told me

Prince of tennis is good example of an anime with many female voice actors to a guy the main character is one but my favorite Yukimura seeichi is another one. I never had a problem with female voiceactor voicing guys i find it fun if its done well and i cant come up with any anime that was very bad at it.

oh yeah I really like Ryoma's voice in that one. Fuji's voice never really got me though, he sounded too feminine.

Well Fuji was prob supposed a proxy girl for those who needed a more feminine/liked person than sakuno.

It's easier to get women to do voices of young boys than actual young boys who may suddenly have a voice change.

I feel like the dubs are far more noticeable with the slipping of the female for young boys trope but sometimes it works. I'd like to slip in examples but too many of the prime examples contradict one another.
