Well, I wear mostly same/similar clothes so no, not really. I always go with same jeans (yeah, I do wash them), black/dark blue shirt and long jacket.

Yeah it kinda does actually. I like to SEE the progression in a character, especially through clothing/armor. Mix it up, at least a little.

I honestly don't care. Real life people wear the same clothes everyday. If anyone really enjoyed wardrobe changes that much then you'd find some people that actually like Endless 8.

If they never changed clothes then it means that the clothes is a part of who they are. Usually these type of characters are static characters. It is also prevalent tropes among villains for some obvious reasons.

I mean, considering we're all still here watching anime, I'm going to guess it at least doesn't insult your existence.
Most anime, and even cartoons, have their characters wearing the exact same clothing episode after episode, and some anime even go as far as showing a character's closet and we see it's full of the exact same outfit they're currently wearing.

Well if you ask me, there's really nothing wrong with it. It would be too much effort to draw up or animate new clothing every episode/chapter anyway. This is probably one of the reasons School anime/manga are so prevalent, with the ease and glorious excuse of only having to deal with identical school uniforms.

But a better question would be, how much do characters wearing the same clothes affect your intrepation of something? Is it just laziness on part of the mangaka or animators, or is it really something that doesn't bother you whatsoever?

Tell the Protaku your thoughts.

Sometimes. Many people do like wearing wearing the same outfit all the time and have several of the same shirts and pants. For example I wear black shirts and tan pants all the time. I have several black Hanes T-shirts with a pocket and some tan pants. So I can understand wearing the same outfit every day.But in some anime where you know that the main character has no possible way of having multiples of the same clothing so that character us wearing the same filthy clothes day after day. For example in the Familiar of Zero the main character is transported to another world,so he has no spares of the same clothing. So you know that he is wearing the same clothes day after day and even sleeping in the same clothes day after day.

I am more disturbed by anime clothes that could magically regenerate itself without explanation, like in Hokuto no Ken :)

I'm not the most observant person when it comes to things like that, so if its just the same outfit once or twice, and not every day, I probably won't notice.

It wouldn't make sense if students are not wearing their uniforms in school

except for the fact many anime characters still wear school uniforms although they are not even going to school anymore

It's only ever bothered me once, and that's for Saito in Zero no Tsukaima. At first, it makes sense that he wouldn't change his clothes because he just got sucked into a magic world he doesn't want to be in, but once he becomes used to living there, and even wants to stay there, you'd think he would change out of his other-world clothes, but nope, he just wears the same thing. He looks slightly ridiculous and out of place, being a "legendary" knight guy wearing that blue jacket.

But other than that, no, it doesn't bother me at all. Or at least, I've yet run into another anime that it bothers me.

Yes and no. Depends on the type of anime.

For example. School anime most characters are in Uniform most of the time, However outside of school they are usually wearing something different.

However in Shounen most of the main characters.

Luffy, Naruto, Goku, Gintoki, will always have their signature uniform on. We assume they only have one set of clothes.

However we always get a peek in the closet (For naruto, Goku and Gintoki we know they just have alot of the same type of clothes..)

One of the things I like about Shirobako is that the characters change their wardrobes from day to day. They still have personal tastes in clothing though so the clothes vary within a style. For instance, Aoi likes those one-piece items with shorts and bib top with shoulder straps.

Don't mind at all, the fashion style is part of the character design process, since what characters wear helps communicating their personalities and to construct their identities. Viewers also can feel a pleasing sense of continuity if they see their characters wearing the same outfits for a long period of time. If they wore something different every day it would be tougher to get connected to them, since it is continuity what allows that.

However, I don't mind when the author or whoever is in charge of character design decides to eventually change their clothes, but this has to happen from time to time, not on a daily basis.

Doesn't bothers me that much, but I appreciate if the characters changes of clothes from time to time. It makes the characters less... "boring", for the lack of a better word.

No, but if the clothing looks really good on the character and they wore it for a good portion of the time to suddenly then change clothes into something worse, that bothers me

I guess it depends on the setting and the time an anime is set in. For example, you wouldn't see an anime character wearing shorts and tshirt in the middle of a snowy winter. On the opposite hand, you wouldn't see a character wearing a big jacket and 3 pairs of pants in the middle of summer. So generally, if the setting calls for a change of outfit and it doesn't occur, then I am somewhat bothered.

Honestly, what bothers me more is the hairstyles on female characters. I would expect them to experiment more. Which is probably the one thing I actually liked about Lovely Complex, there they changed hairstyles and clothes very often. I mean, Risa had a different hairstyle almost every episode/day.

You better stay away from cartoons then.

OT: It doesn't bother me if the characters wear the same thing, it doesn't affect my enjoyment at all. It's kinda nice to see my favorite character in different clothes, though.

Oh yes especially in Slice of life animes, because you know... in real life people change clothes every day.

If there's a person in real life who never change clothes, or have a closet full of identical clothes, lmk

(Even a hobo has a change of clothes)

One Piece characters actually have a surprising amount of different outfits.

Sanji also occasionally switches out of his suits.

Yes, it drives me crazy. Especially in long running shows, where you have to see the same outfit on the characters for hundreds of episodes. For example One Piece and even worse in Naruto. At least in one piece sometimes the clothes would change. But in Naruto? The clothes only changed after the timeskiip and in the war. Plus some very few slice of life episodes and filler. It was pretty annoying seeing Naruto in the same shitty outfit, and even after the timeskip it changed very little. Sakura's too. Then I remember Nana, where every episode (if not multiple times in one episode) the outfits were changing. But I guess it was to be expected of Ai Yazawa who is a fashion designer. I want to see that in more anime.
