Malware said: It's not like nyaa was that great to begin with. All it had was content, the site itself was pretty basic garbage. The content will migrate to a new site as it always does. All signs point to tt or anidex. Although I'm not sure why the weebs need an anime specific tracker anyways, just use one of the millions that already exist for normal people. It wasn't an anime tracker, it was a Japanese tracker. They had lots of rare games too. |

That's exactly what I said though. Nyaa just had lots of content, the site itself was.... I'm literally repeating myself here. Unless you're implying that the content is now lost. It isn't. Plenty of private trackers or just misc people are likely to have it all archived and once everyone decides on an replacement, it'll likely get added to wherever that new place might be. |

| I guess I should have asked why weebs need a weeb specific tracker? I mean, all those things you mentioned exist everywhere else. It's not as if other trackers ban Japanese media. In fact most of them even have pretty categories laid out for each one. I'd love to give an example, but it seems the anime police are on to us. |

I thought public trackers were all equal shit. I feel like I'm missing something here, but wasn't nyaa pretty basic? Hell, I bet I could make an exact copy from memory in an afternoon. Minus the tracker, content, and userbase which are the things I'm implying can simply move to another, maybe better maybe exactly as bad, site. I'm not trying to say it was unusable or anything, it had all the essentials and nothing more. I'm just saying it could be made again pretty easily. Well "easily" in terms of making the site itself, leaving all other aspects of running said site aside. Since we aren't allowed to mention other sites, this is difficult, but was there a specific thing that nyaa did that another tracker won't be able to do? Say for example ALL of the content that was on nyaa got insta-moved over to tt. Then would everyone be happy? |

Then would everyone be happy? as people already stated earlier Nyaa is the place where fansub groups and japanese media piracy release groups put their torrents first so its a huge deal not just for leechers but for this seeders or piracy release groups but you are right, there is an ongoing effort to make a Nyaa replacement since some people have backup of the torrent links of Nyaa and they are collecting and restoring them at the moment |

Malware said: Do you think that Basic is bad? It was one of the easiest sites to navigate out there to what you could find, and very user friendly. The reason it was so popular is because of groups like Horriblesubs starting there right when Nyaa did. This made everyone else flock to the same site. Yes, the site could probably be made easily, but is anyone willing to do that? Idk. Site mentioning is allowed. Linking isn't.Tyrel said: Comparing all the trackers currently out, they all look like shit. Tbh, Nyaa was the best one out there, and it had everything possible. ALL the data was deleted. Literally everything. So unless you had the files already on your computer, or if they had the files from shows backed-up to a certain date recently, a lot of shit is gone. I tested this already on a few different torrent sites and a lot of stuff is missing. It seems some people do have logs of it, so that's something. My reason for using nyaa was because it was easy on the eyes with its colors. Obviously, if other trackers can do the same, I'd use them. |

| I'm mostly a person who streams, but I do find it funny how anime streamers are saying this won't affect them. How about you guys take a guess where all the anime streaming sites get their anime from. They don't get them out of their own ass that's for sure. This isn't a good sign. Although given the fact that Nyaa was never prepared for a potential shutdown, unlike other torrent sites this was bound to happen at some point. Here is hoping that whatever ends up replacing Nyaa is better than it cause whatever replaces Nyaa has some big shoes to fill in. I imagine it's going to take quite a while for a new site to rise from the ashes of all this which is rather unfortunate. |

It's not as if every subgroup has stopped subbing because "the worlds #1 best tracker ever :/ " went down. Even HS who were speshul butties with nyaa are still releasing their stuff via magnet links + their usual non-torrent nonsense. Commie's site imploded for obvious reasons, but we're better off without their memesubs anyway. I bet even they are still doing things someway somehow, probably could find out through their IRC if you were so inclined to contract terrible cancer. |

The owner didnt give a damn about the EU laws much less the community, hell he made fucking jokes about EU law regarding torrents being inconsistent many times. He simply decided that he wasnt gonna host the shit anymore and deleted all 3 domains from each registrar which was proven true when nyaatorrents started showing pendingDeletion for the status of the domain in whois yesterday. The whole bullshit about EU law and shit was brought about by a troll on 4chan and people beleived it. The owner then rolled with it 2 days after the shutdown because it was a convenient excuse. The owner literally made it a point not to give anyone access to anything backend related and refused to notify his most trusted community members (admins and mods) before the shut down. He allowed mass confusion to reak havoc on the internet for 2 whole days before saying anything. The guy is an asshole through and through and i hope he never runs any community ever again. |

| Why are some people here saying that this is the EU's fault? As far as my knowledge goes this gets more decided on single legal cases (of course every country has different copyright laws). But in the end it's not like the whole EU as an institution is at fault here. |

| I had a premonition that getting anime, esp. older works would become difficult in the near future when I started hoarding high quality releases 8 years ago, but I never expected it to end like this. Anime aside, the ones truly hard-hit are associated works like eroge, games and other derivative works. There's enough of a fanbase for anime that regardless of what it is, there's likely at least one copy available somewhere on the net, but I'm not sure what I'm going if I find a past VN suddenly want to play. Nyaa and Sukebei weren't so popular for new anime but for the old titles, old ost, old jav, old novels, old h-games, old doujinshi, books, rare non mainstream oav/movies, they had a huge database, the biggest in the www, there is no one close to it. I' can't blame the admin to close it because the eurozone is unfortunately become a trash continent dominated by nazi globalist and corrupted bankers/politician, lickasses of the true financial power that this is eating and destroy everything good about these ancient countries and their culture, but i'm pissed because he close the door without giving away the whole database to someone else or make it public. The database of nyaa and sukebei is a pure gem build over years and years, is something that you can't replace just going alsewhere, every anime fan from any part of the world used it as a main hub of new and old releases, these rare releases that you cannot find easily, was something very rare and precious. I hear that someone is trying to make a nyaa 2.0 with the dump of the database but until i see it with my eyes these are just speculations and rumors. The dump website with the pantsu on the url is a huge crap and heavy incomplete. Valid alternatives are only 2 at the monent: animetosho and tokyotosho since they worked in parallel with nyaa for many years and links are mirrored, not everything but a huge portion (expecially tokyotosho since it was the best aggregator before Nyaa). Hope they get everything back in a way or another, i'm really miss it, was something more of a mere torrent aggregator for me, was a true encyclopedia of japanese media of every kind, a gate where you have access to knowledge and everything regarding the japanese culture in the more deep and bare aspect of it. |
