If Christ was born in this age, and he started talking among people... ... Well... Would anyone listen to him?

Like, I was wondering about that...

In Bible, he was really popular, and all...

But in this time, where nothing is exciting anymore, and everyone is "yeah, sure, whatever", would Jesus be successful to draw masses around him, or would we just take few selfies with him in the background, upload it on Facebook with message "Totally saw Jesus yesterday in mall!", and forgot about it when next coolest thing come around.

Enjoy in thread.

People would treat him like a madman probably. Plus he wouldn't get the martyr death he'd wish for, instead he'd end up posting selfies on Facebook or something.

Thanks to wonderful inventions such as "internet" and "transportation that takes less than a treacherous month to travel anywhere other than your isolated village in the desert" and "literacy", it's a bit harder nowadays to persuade the average joe to buy into your swindling bullshit.

Getting people to listen to you now would be 1000 times easier than in Roman Times. In the bible you can see that the Roman government was very religious and not opposed to silencing anyone who preached something different to their views or who amassed too much power.

But now (most places) have free exchange of information. And the internet so a message can spread much faster, to much further places.

"Christ" isn't dead nor was he crucified. A vast majority of people are awaiting for his arrival before D-Day. Most will follow his path of light and others will not.

Dostoevsky wrote a book that's sort of about that, except it takes place about 1,5 centuries ago, it's titled "The Idiot" and it sums up how people would treat Jesus(of course the protagonist is not called Jesus, but it's very easy to see who the main character represents) in the more recent times.

Doubt Christianity would even be a thing in this age if Jesus were to be born now rather than 2,000 years ago.

We don't put people to death so I doubt it, but if we're to believe religion anyway then anything's possible too. Joseph Smith could do it.

Apparantly people rose from the dead constantly in those days, people got possessed, rose from graves in the 100's etc. But people still didn't believe because it probably didn't happen.

If people rise from their graves in 100's that shit would be beleived in other areas of the globe and documented in detail not just a new testament verse.

Depends:

If hes just a normal man: people will think hes another crazy fanatic, albeit a more peaceful fanatic.

If he has his superpowers from the bible, I can see him gathering a large following and being assasinated by the FBI

Even I can do that.

Modern magicians pull off way better stuff than Jesus. Walking on water and feeding some mob with fish wouldn't even make it to the news. It's pretty hard to think of something that the Messiah could provide people with. Maybe he could use his magic to help environment or create some kind of new divine power source.

Who would treat a man claiming himself the son of God as a sane person nowadays?

He was known as an intelligent teacher in his time and if he truly acted the same as he did back then I believe the people around him would respect him and treat him as an important person. Because of the myths about him turning water into wine, walking on water, and being the son of God some people might not believe him to truly be Jesus at first since in reality is a mortal human without magical powers but I think people would grow to accept him for who he really is and eventually it wouldn't even matter that he doesn't fit the fictitious description that some ancient book put upon him.

That depends on how he did it; if he performed miracles like he did in the bible I'd reckon he could get a fair following.

I don't believe the guy existed in the first place, the only proof we have is a book.
From that reasoning we should believe that manga characters are real and roaming around, that's just stupid if you ask me.

Tacitus' Annals disagree, and it is extremely anti-Christ so it isn't a Christian source.

people aren't as ignorant as they were back then, so he'd probably have to give up
im sure he'd have a small cult though

Oh maybe, maybe it's the clothes we wear
The tasteless bracelets and the dye in our hair
Or maybe, maybe it's our nowhere towns or our nothing places
But we're trash, you and me
We're the litter on the breeze
We're the lovers on the streets
Just trash, me and you
It's in everything we do
It's in everything we do

Dude would have to perform a miracle to live TV coverage with experts in the audience (physicists, magicians & illusionists who could recognize trickery).

THAT would be mind-blowing.

However, I doubt that spaghetti-monster-kun would bother to grace us with His/Her/It's tomatoe-y, noodle-y presence in the first place.

That is hard to imagine because a lot of the things in the world today were shaped by his birth 2,000 years ago.

You'd have to first imagine what things would be like if he weren't born, then him appearing in the present in such a world.

If you want to keep things the way they are now, a lot of it would be redundant because of that prior influence, and he would be hated by just as many people because he'd be seen as the ultimate goody two-shoes. Heck, a lot of people who call themselves Christians would most likely crucify him.

He would probably valiantly try to save humanity from the cess pit they have become....and utterly fail fall into depression and commit suicide like he did the first time around. Hey man we going down we're GOING DOWN TO HELL BABY WW3 woop woop! let humanity finally fall to its own darkness and be swallowed whole forever.

I imagine the person to finally break the spirit of Jesus himself would be transcendent. Imagine the son of God falling from grace into darkness. We got the devil from an angel but Christ inverted into a symbol of despair would be sexual apocalyptic.

you know if you believe all that kind of thing.

I honestly think Jesus would be a forgotten figure if he were born today, not only because we as a whole are much more skeptical than ever but because frankly very few people care about being "saved" or "redeemed" or "forgiven".

Instead, all we do is continue our cycle of ignorance and corruption, and shake our heads at anyone that offers another point of view.
