I recently came back to YouTube and had a little question that I have been wondering about, what do you think about people who review anime on YouTube? Do most people base their opinions on their opinions? (Hopefully I didn't word that terribly) |

Just like the written reviews everywhere some offer interesting perspectives and opinions others are a waste of time. Chapter reviews and episode reviews are the most useless ones but many do it because these type of reviews consistently bring more views and money. |

They're worse, most of them do their reviews just for appealing to masses. If something is cool to like then they'll like it and if something is cool to hate then they'll hate it. |

I prefer spoilerific reviews (that I usually watch after completing the series) since they tend to dive in to why they liked or disliked it while reviewers that stay away from spoilers, and most reviewers in general, use blanket statements that don't tell me anything about why a show is good. they can be helpful for finding shows to watch if you share similar tastes and ideas. for example, I agree with digibro on many things, and have watched quite a few shows due to his channel, usually liking them. |

They're not true anime fans. They're pretending to like anime only for the view (money) they make a script using reviews from MAL aka stealing people's reviews. |

I don't like Anime Reviewers they spoil alot especially manga -w- I'm so grateful for the VideoBlocker app that makes you filter and remove words or youtube channels from appearning on your page or mostly on the annoying recommendation page :3 I might watch Anime reviews on youtube from 40-50 years when I watched alot of anime and read alot of manga so they can't spoil me :3 |

I find that anime YouTubers don't tend to say anything interesting. It's just a synopsis and 'oh it's good/bad'. Also, I hate the video format. Reading is more comfortable since the information is static, not in constant motion. I set the pace in which I absorb it. |

I find them just as useless as any anime reviews out there. Reviews for anime simply don't work... neither do they work for movies. They tend to be acceptable for games, because they show many gameplay elements and that helps you make a proper ideea regarding the game and if is for you (while in anime and movies they must take in consideration the fact that they can't spoil). And they are obviously relevant for technology. Some channels, like Digibro for example give some intersting information about the industry and make some interesting analysis about studios, animation as a whole, etc. But his reviews are just as whorthless as the rest (especially taking in consideration his shitty so called ability to judge if a show is good from the first episode, which doesn't work at all taking in consideration the ammount of good anime he dropped after 1 episode). When it comes to anime, the reviews are mere oppinions, but because they can't give too much information they aren't really helpful. Along with that, the taste of peoples is different from person to person. So even if a show has great reviews that doesn't mean you will like it. Is different from tech... when it comes to etertaiment you want shows that you would like, while when it comes to tech, you want things that work well and give good performance, and that is easy to review. I mean imagine if a review for tech was the same as one for anime: ''This PC is great. We can't give you the specs because we would spoil you, but is really performant. It definetly works the 1599$ investment. Is it going to work for a long time, or is it going to break in the first year? Well, you will have to buy it and see for yourself ^^'' |

I don't watch them. Youtubers tend to try more to be funny or contrarian or provocative to generate traffic than care about actual content. Or at least that's what makes you popular. Just look at rori, digibro and the other mainstream youtubers. Nothing but tryhards fishing for clicks from what I've seen. I also generally don't care about reading reviews. I'd rather talk about the show with someone I know than get the opinions of some random people on the internet who I never had a conversation with. So while I don't doubt that there are good ones among the ones with less exposition I'm just not interested. 99,9% of the time my own watching experience is all I need. I don't need input from strangers to decide what shows I want to watch and once I've seen them I don't need their opinions either, my viewing experience is already done and there's nothing to gain for me unless it's an anime I didn't fully understand which is rare (maybe a handful among the hundreds I've seen). |

That really really depends on the user tbh. I never watch them, idk, I rather read some reviews. I have the feelings that YouTubers try too hard to be funny or likable. The only reviewer I watch from time to time is DigiBro. I know he gets a lot of backslash for his 'elitist attitude' and I often don't agree with him, but he often doesn't have this 'mainstream opinion'. I think it's really interesting to hear some arguments from the other side (if that sentence makes sense, woops), because it helps me to form my own opinion about something. I still don't watch his video's very often though. It's mostly when I am drawing and I don't feel like listening to music, so I just listen to his vids. And since they're kinda long, I'm bothered with constantly picking a video to watch (or in my case, listen to). |

I feel like I'd rather spend a day with a child molester or a serial killer than an hour with a person who reviews anime on YT. Wouldn't be as irritating, at the very least. On one hand, my hatred of people who try to censor ideas they disagree with leads me to saying "They can do what they want, I don't care," but just because I think they should be able to make videos doesn't mean I don't fucking hate 'em. They all seem to hold themselves in extremely high regard, but at the same time they basically just seem to parrot the opinions of one another most of the time. This is particularly bad with the smaller channels I've watched, which I've mostly found because of the amount of self-advertising they do on their profiles here, and they just don't even seem to have opinions of their own. If I wanted to hear Digibro review something, I'd just go watch Digibro. I don't want to hear some smug fucktard repeat Digibro right down to using the same jokes about A-1 and LN adaptations. Or, on the off-chance they have a shred of dignity, finding a name funny because it sounds like "McFail," which is not only something I feel like only CoD's target audience would find amusing but it's also not an uncommon last name at all. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McPhail But I digress, that's just grievances with one video I watched. As a whole, they either parrot the same opinions, try way too hard to be controversial in order rake in more views, and generally possess similar behavior traits as clickbait channels yet people seem to take them seriously for some reason. I think the reason they even have a shred of credibility is the terminology they use instead of their opinions themselves. People will learn these new, fancy sounding words like cliche or wish fulfillment, just something to better describe things, and then apply it to things they either like or dislike on a clearly subjective level in order to lend more credibility to their own opinion instead of recognizing the power of not being a fucking retard. Basically, YT reviewers are just breeding wave after wave of idiot who buys into their ideas since the people who watch them have no confidence in their own intellect and want to know how to think instead of just finding that out for themselves. I think that's what I hate most about them, all things considered. |

I think they're fine, but I think the issue that arises is when their fans think that they're word and opinion should be respected the most among many others. I think that goes with any over-obsessive fanbase - they don't look at their idol as another human being but as some supreme god of their corresponding topic and their word is law. In the end, the anime youtubers are nothing more than other anime fans with a (usually popular) taste and opinion. Just because they're popular doesn't mean their opinion or taste is law or necessarily good. |

I'm browsing some right now and they'll speak of bad parts and good parts and 90% of it is kinda useless, you can find bad and good stuff in anything. https://therawlsianprincipleofmediaambivalence.wordpress.com/2016/06/18/how-to-use-mayoiga/ I can find them some value as probes, but a lot of them are busy with fans expectations and everyone says pretty much everything they want so yeah Idk. There's a lot of samey stuff so it's not too hard to simply ditch things for something else instead of having your bloggers deal with every pilot episode and stick to whatever they want. Something 100% bonkers is everyone's personal score system too. Having a number kind of kills the point of watching or reading the review, also it's tied to fans' expectations in that you have to be "objective" and contain because of whatever petty thing the readers will call the reviewer for. You can't even tell in what ways 10/10's differ. Do fans want this or that confirmed, they report it but how do they even value it all when it doesn't mean anything to anyone else. Reviewers could just go "subjective" and write everything they think, which is not to say they'd post and kind of bullshit they want, as much as talk hiw they felt rather than giving people a checklist just because they think the audience is just as clueless as they are. |

I guess you could say I like 3 types of youtube anime reviewers; informers, who give you their spoiler-free opinion on a series, which you can use as a suggestion (bobsamurai), analyzers, who analyze the anime, it's consistency and significance to the medium (TAS) and the comedians; who make reviews as a means to comedy (bennetthesage). I'm mostly only subscribed to one or two per category. I generally don't like the hyper type, the one that does weekly and fan stuff. Not for me. Of course I don't just agree with them, but I'm open to hearing different opinions and viewpoints on stuff. I generally find literature, film and music criticism, analysis and interpretation interesting, so it can get quite interesting at times. |

Tl:dr Depends on what show I'm watching and what I would like to hear what others say. And also, if we have that same mutual feelings. I like the people who I watch. Right now I currently watch ChibiReviews (for JoJo and ReZero) and Weeby Newz (for DanganRonpa 3). Those are the ones I've only recently really watch. I like them. Chibi I like cuz he has a way of going into depth, especially with ReZero, and it shows how he really loves that anime, and I love it as well. So we got that kind of connection. I mean. As long as you have a connection with someone when having the same feelings abkut the same show, thats like a huge comradery kind of feeling. But thats only on that series. All his other videos, I can care less really. So i am really biased with who i like and for what. A person I don't really like is Digibro, I respect that he's putting his shitty opinion out there, but eh. Freedom of speech, what can ya do, so I just ignore him. Only one thing I like of him was a video he did on Monogatari. Which, if you cant guess by my low quality tasteless name is my favorite anime of all time. I watch Arkada's videos here and then if I'm interested, if there's one show I'd like to watch and he reviews it, I'll watch it and see if I'll get a lil push to watch it. Because if someone says something sucks, it'll just lower my standards and hey, i might just like it. I still watch Garnt (Gigguk), i even go back to watch his old videos, Holden (HoldenReviews), welp, I'll watch anything he uploads cuz well, he kinda got me into Monogatari with his old reviews, same with Garnt as well and I met the dude at a von, and he was pretty cool. Forneverworld, eh. I'm not much of a shounen fanboy, I will admit I like Fairy Tail, Bleach, Dragon Ball, and couple others, but not to his freaking extent. Same with Double4. I have no clue why I'm stil subbed to both of them. Another guy I watch when he uploads is ShadowACS cuz he was my first guy to watch reviews from, after him was Gigguk. So, kinda like I still want to show support since hes kinda really under the radar after all this time. |
