Judging by the PV and how episode 1 went, I knew I would like this show. A show like Girls und Panzer with cute girls and ships instead of tanks? Sounds like a lot of fun! What surprised me though was how much I actually ended up loving the show. Every moment of every episode I was fixated on the screen like a wolf hunting down deer. There wasn't a single second of boredom throughout the entire series and I absolutely loved every bit of Haifuri.

It makes me sad thinking that people will just write this anime off as a Girls und Panzer clone and won't give it a chance. Not saying that Girls und Panzer is a bad anime, I also love that series, but Haifuri was more enjoyable in the end for me and has become one of my favorite anime of all time.

While both shows are very similar what I really liked about Haifuri was the presence of actual danger. In GuP, the girls drove tanks that fired off "smart rounds", rounds that were essentially duds but activated a system on the tank to determine if a hit was critical or not. Everything was safe, there wasn't a real sense of danger other than tanks slipping off a hill and falling into a river. In Haifuri there was always that chance of someone getting badly hurt or even worse, dying. The tone of the show pretty much guarantees that no one does get badly hurt but I really liked how every fight the main characters were in was dangerous. Beginning in episode 1, live rounds were fired at them and that continued throughout the show, you can see the extent of the damage off of the last battle in this episode. The feeling that all the girls knew what kind of danger they were in and that everything they do was to prevent anyone from getting injured brought a bit of tension to the battles.

Speaking of the battles they were entertaining as well. Nicely animated and very bad-ass looking. Although at times things got a bit silly, it's a cartoon, things are allowed to get silly and the series wasn't trying to be fully serious anyways, it did not put a hamper on my overall enjoyment.

A big strong point of Haifuri is how seamlessly it blended the cute slice of life aspect and the semi-serious story it told. The cute moments acted as a breather between the tense and forever cliffhanging plot and as one would expect from a show where 90% of the cast is cute teenage girls, it does not let you down. When it came time for plot progression we were awarded with a decently interesting story. While the story may not be complex by any stretch of the imagination, it's simplicity actually worked in favor for the show. The plot was established and the story was told. No major twists and turns, no jaw dropping reveals or any tricks of the sort. This is the problem, this is what we're going to do. Done. The story played itself out afterwards and it was very satisfying by it's own right. The story was not perfect however as there were a couple of plot holes left unanswered but it still got the job done as the type of anime it wanted to be.

Needless to say, I love this anime to death and love it probably more than I should but that's the whole point of loving something eh? It had a little bit of everything, a great cast of characters, a simplistic and fairly well executed story, and satisfying action. I came in with a smile and left with the biggest grin of my life. I seriously would be forever thankful if a season 2 were to be, or a movie, or anything Haifuri related. This will be the first time I'm going to buy a BD set if one were to be released. I absolutely love this anime. 10/10

I don't get how ramming along Musashi's starboard side would stop her? O_o Ah well enough overthinking before my head explodes. XP

I guess plot armor wasn't strong enough to fill all those leaky holes in the Harekaze.... and why did it not sink in open water? Heck, why wouldn't the ship be salvaged when it's docked next to a harbor? Oh the shit that they come up with for the "impact".
Same thoughts were running to my mind. As some had been pointing out, might be Mike's luck making her float? LOL

Enjoyed the naval battles but it's still 5/10.

So Misaki gets permission from the principal to carry out her reckless plan of stalling the Musashi to let reinforcements arrive to take over. Mei had quite a lot of fun there, launching all torpedoes at once. They buy time, but the result is the Harekaze taking one hell of a beating with the engine room flooding, fires erupting in different places along with extensive damage to their weapon firing parts. They survive till reinforcements arrive which include the Germans' Spee. Mii-chan is here to help. And this leads to the second part of their extremely reckless plan – boarding the Musashi.

That rash driving though. They banged the Harekaze straight into the Musashi to stop it. They were like, "neko this ship! It's going down anyway, might as well blow it up". The reunion was quite good. And in the end, they reach solid land. But after that beating the Harekaze took due to the recklessness, the ship which supported Misaki and her crew all this time sinks. It didn't feel off at all. Kinda like giving the show a proper ending. The dangerous journey at sea is now over, something like that.

Overall this has been a good show. They went full serious where needed and kept the moe moe stuff out of the way when serious. It had the cute girls doing stuff aspect but those didn't feel bad at all. It took the ships stuff quite seriously which was good. There was an actual sense of danger here as things weren't all fun and games. They really were in danger out at sea and episode 11 perfectly showed that with Misaki being unable to decide whether to evacuate or go in. My biggest complaint, apart from the drops in the artwork at times, is the development that mutant rodents are causing the everyone to go wild. That honestly felt stupid. It would have been better if it was something like someone is trying to give the Bloomers a bad name and have them wreak havoc here and there. In fact, anything would have been better than mutant rats. That being said, the ship battles were always exciting to watch. The girls putting Misaki's plans to action to stop ships was cool. It was a pretty good show to watch. It it weren't for that stupid development it would have been better.

Final in a good naval combat, it was assumed that there was, but even knowing this, did not disappoint, in fact we are quite busy to do very hectic. There is regret that the series could be longer and better articulated, compared to what we have seen, had started the series with a different idea of the story, but also because as it turned out, it was fine, however, since a kind of similar series, I had never seen one. high enough quality in your drawings as animations, including CG. There were too many characters, you could do better than if you saw, that's why I want a second season.
RIP Harekaze!

Liked the show but it sure as heck wasn't the finest one ever made. I was surprised at the number of details throughout the show which I counted as poor editing or re-use of backgrounds/scenes; for example, the Type C twin gun house which magically appears on Harekaze's foc'sle in the last episode (see the screen shot a few posts above) after they had switched to US model 5"/38 cal guns a couple of episodes before. Nonetheless, nit picky details aside the main plot line was relatively engaging and they did a decent job depicting engrossing battle scenes.

I almost didn't watch this show. I first came across mention of it when Fujimi announced Chibi-Maru and 1/700 versions of Harekaze. After that I read about the show and wasn't super impressed. Then I stumbled across a video clip of the torpedo launch sequence from the first episode where someone had dubbed in the Zipang OST over the Haifuri OST. I was hooked then. On its own I don't know if I would've bothered with this show. All in all, it was a good ride. 6/10

PS: When I first heard the creaking and saw signs that Harekaze was going down at her moorings, I immediately thought of the end of Das Boot.

I'll give it a 7/10. A fun show to watch. The level of action, something like 10 out of 12 episodes were ship to ship combat, meant it was never boring. Animation and soundtrack were good and the voice acting seemed nice. My minor complaint is that there were so many characters I could not remember anyone's name! I know the characters from their positions on the ships, not by names. I'll probably watch it again at some point with the intention of learning who everyone is. Girls und Panzer, on the other hand, handled a large number of characters in a much more memorable fashion.

Enjoyed it to a surprising degree despite being disappointed after the initial episodes on how it wasn't serious enough. They even have the OP full version for the climax trope going here and I'm a sucker for that sort of thing.
8/10 seems fair. Watched this because of KanColle and yet this was so much better than that thing.

Everyone worked really hard but I feel exceptionally proud of Rin and Akeno

But man, Harekaze girls are amazing... It's hard to believe they are only students. I feel stupid when I see them working practical work so well lol

Aaaand they finally got off the ship... That was quite a journey! Super-proud of them!

Ahh Harekaze sinking made me emotional... That was sad
I guess they are gonna scrap it now?

8/10 for this. Pure enjoyment, the action scenes were done really well, too! And all the girls were cute and fun. Yup you can't go wrong with that.

H O R R I B L E ART, seriously, everything except characters looked like a shit.
Story... I expected nice SOL about girls in marine school. I'm totally not a target, because I don't care about military and ships and especially about naval bombarding.
I didn't like the characters itself, of course it's hard to do a show with that many characters, but...
Maybe a bit too low score, but I really didn't enjoy it at all. And please don't tell me that 'you should drop it at the beginning'. It's something that I usually do, but I was hoping for something more interesting.

Nooo! They put in an actual death! The Harekaze sinking at the end was a nice, dramatic way to end the series on. Very symbolic and meaningful.

I say, that overall, the anime was well excited, taking into consideration how tied the studio's hands were. I hear they wanted to focus some more into the naval warfare aspect, but due to the execs wanting to market the girls for more profits, the writers had to drop some ideas out due to budget restraints.

Since the naval warfare aspect was well detailed consistently, they managed well enough, all things considered.

Either way, I loved this anime. 9/10, for originality, consistency with the naval ships, some good naval engagements, and the girls being quite lovable.

I hope they make OVA for Haifuri in the future..

I would like to see more of:
- Moka x Mike..

- Kouko x Wilhelmina..
- and the other Girls of Harekaze..

I expected Moka to be a main character at first episode, but it seemed that she's only supporting character after all.. :/

Not bad, but not great either. There were too many inconsistencies for me to really like this show.

- "Better preserve our ammo!" > Musashi uses infinite ammo because plot.
- Why are a bunch of trainees on a military ship without any staff or instructors?
- The ship should have capsized multiple times at the speed they were going at when they were turning. Disregarding the speed, the ship would have capsized at the angle the ship was rendered with.
- How did the radio wave effect from the rats not reach that one specific room of the Musashi?

I give the show a 6/10, only because it was slightly better than passable.

All in all it wasted its potential. Instead of providing us with naval battles involving two ships actually steered by humans it was mostly about the crew of the Harekaze saving the day. It's a shame we didn't get to see the former regardless of how many parallels it would've drawn to GuP.

I actually never heard of a Type 4 naval rocket, it also lacked fins. TBH it looked like a conventional round with rocket power on it... So maybe thrust vectoring to make it spin?
Anyways, I know there is a anti-tank Type 4 rocket but never heard of a naval one that could be launched via a rail and remote control.
In fact one that big? Big as a depth charge rack? There was an IJN naval AA rocket but never heard of an anti-ship one or whatever that is for.

Maybe it's fictional?

No, it's real... just looked it up on Wikipedia and it's a Type 4 rocket mortar that the Imperial Army developed towards the end of the war... am beginning to thing that Hai Furi's Akashi either has Arepeggio of Blue Steel's (manga) Akashi mental model locked up in a hold making stuff on the fly or this _IS_ the kitchen sink that they tossed in just because.
Oh, and I noticed in this episode that this series' Hiei is either the pre-modernized version with the lower deck sponson 5.5" guns, or a mix of both pre- and post-modernized equipment.
Anyway, it's a nice little series, that I loved a lot this spring, and I do hope that we do get some sort of sequel to it.

THE FINAL BATTLE IS UPON US AND I AM HYPED. THINGS HAVE GOTTEN SUPER SERIOUS. On that note, this anime gives off a serious Girls un Panzor feel, but with boats instead of tanks. I like that. Anyway, that was one hell of a final battle, and with the intro theme playing, I felt the hype, and it was the full theme too which made it even better. AND THE REUNION WAS BEAUTIFUL. And the boat sinking in the end was sad, though I had a feeling something was off. A wonderful finale for this anime.

I almost skipped out on this anime because I thought it was gonna be trash, but that first arc hit me hard. I never expected this anime to be nearly as intense as it turned out to be, and I loved it for that. But some of that fan-service was just weird. Anyway, 9/10 by me.

The story was interesting, there was battles, cute characters, battleship and comedy in a single series.

I just feel a bit empty with the ending I would really love to see an ending showing them sailing together again.

But well logically speaking that ending was right because with how much they use the ship of course it will sink consider how hard they hit a ship that can't be pierce by a missile.
