Oh, I like dark fantasy. I like good dark fantasy. I have been told that Kyoukai no Kanata is not necessarily 'good' dark fantasy. Thus, I haven't gone out of my way to watch it.

Heh sorry that's a bit of an inside joke here stemming from a certain forum member suggesting Kyoukai no Kanata to someone asking for Dark Fantasy.

The 'znt' abbreviation is the worst one.

'KnK' is equally useless as an abbreviation to be fair.

I love dark fantasy: Akame ga Kill, Kyoukai no Kanata, Guilty Crown, Black Bullet, Elfen Lied, the list goes on...

"If you want to beat..."

Fair. That is a fair and valid point. I shall proceed to ignore it. (heh)

That list though. My eyes.

Ergo Proxy fans should really check Casshern Sins. Desolate landscapes, willowing, melancholic music, grim and hopeless atmosphere, main character is on a journey. Can't really tell if it's good or not yet, but the atmosphere is on point

Those backgrounds

This would fit as dark fantasy 👌

Whoa I went to check Takahiro's MAL page (author of AgK) to see what other manga he's written, and I found this in the comments section:
Only a true visionary such as Takahiro could out do himself by introducing an actual rape squad into his series.

NGL that made me laugh quite a lot. The manga seems to have it all.

First Skit in this week's Sakamoto was amazingly absurd, I wish the show was a bit more consistent, this week and last week have been quite good but the rest of the season has been a bit mixed.

All I know about Casshern Sins comes from that hilarious DraconisMarch video where he was talking about how pretentious Kara no Kyoukai is.

I'm watching too much stuff, I'll try it out once I finish Rakugo, Lupin, Nisekoi and Maria. Actually, I don't want to watch Maria anymore, I heard that the ending is shit.

I mean the anime didn't introduce the pedophile clown rapist so yea. I've read a few chapters out of curiosity that were skipped by the anime and the new villains are just over the top edgy and are really only there to make the Jaegers not look so evil.

I watched the first episode or two of Casshern Sins a while back. Looked promising. Definitely one I want to return to.

Ergo Proxy on the other hand - well. The intense amount of negativity I see towards that show has, ah, put me off me from giving it a go. Then again, it is one of those really divisive anime that gets brought up so often that maybe I should watch it just so I'm in the know when it comes to those references/discussions.

I mean I've only really heard people call it pretentious but its really not, its not even that hard to follow with the exception of the ending. Its very good though, definitely worth watching if you like SciFi dystopia stories.

But. All I ever heard was very positive reception aside from some dislike towards very specific episodes. It's really good, check EP first

Yeah, you definitely need to be in the mood to watch it, and preferably not sleepy, since I fell asleep to it's lulling atmosphere. Still a nice breather from flashy seasonals.

Well it's not like I haven't heard a lot of praise for it - because I have. I have heard a fair amount of criticism for it though, including: Pretentiousness/edgy (I take both words with a grain of salt though), awful filler, stagnant/turgid at times, and holy hell the amount of differing opinions on the cast....I've seen people saying "oh the characters were all interesting and important" / "all the characters were boring/vague except for Pino" / "I l hated Pino but the other characters were okay" I mean, Jesus make up your minds.

There seems to be some sort of divide on the first half versus the second half too, though I don't know too much about that (also something about the ending being rushed?). I also see 'wasted potential' thrown around a lot - criticizing the storytelling and accusing Ergo Proxy of having so many themes it didn't know what to do with them.

It seems like a pretty divisive show to me. I'll probably watch it at some point someday though.
