Why do so many people think anime is a low artform or can't be as smart as books?

Some anime are very smart some are very dumb. No need to generalize them. I'd say anime like LOTGH and Ashita no Joe are on par with stuff like The Godfather and Seven Samurai.

Why would it be. Difference alone validates comparison. Those differences are what defines them to an extent, it makes it worth consideration.

I mean a comparison regarding quality. Each medium has different strengths and weaknesses and imo it would be pretty dumb to say one is less than the other. How do you define 'quality,' and what is the basis for such a broad comparison?

If the borders of what one medium is capable of is limited in certain aspects this would affect overall quality. If the different mediums have different limits and potentials then the average quality would be variant between them. Quality is dependent on each of us individually, as as such we will all assign different values to different things we like, if they are limited in one medium and not in another then there is your preference, and basis for comparison.

It's because of ignorance, obviously. Why would you attribute intelligence to different entertainment media anyway, if you weren't prejudiced? I think it's easy to understand why some people's first impression of anime is that it's juvenile and unintelligent, but as with many other things, it takes a bit of exploring and time before you discover the good stuff. Many people simply don't have the time or interest to do that, but they still want to assess it, and make up some shallow and premature opinion that have no real worth.

because non anime viewers just see lollies and fanservice. that's really about it. and there's the whole cultural difference. cartoons tend to be more slap stick and funny. so when people see anime they think it's no different than a cartoon.

But it's important to remember that a movie review is subjective;it only gives you one person's opinion.

It doesn't matter if you like LoGH,Monster etc.If you are a jobless or college/school dropout living in your mom basement, you are still an unintelligent loser. Taste in anime does not make you a better person. If elitist don't exist, casual pleb and shit taste also don't exist.

Saw the Tomorrow's Joe live action film recently. It wasn't very good. Would have been better if it was told from the perspective of Toru Rikiishi, but Joe in it was just you're typical one note shoenen MC who starts the story as a cocky arsehole & stays that way right up to the final moment when suddenly he says he learned something despite having given no indication of it. Manga may not be dumb, but it sure has dumbed down Japanese cinema since they started adapting more & more of it for the big screen.

that cme from the actor playing him joe him self is quite a powerfull character but when the lead actor is ppor at best and he is the moove wil not come out well

Whilst I believe most novels have a higher standard in quality, there are quite a few Anime that can be considered just as great as literature.

Also, good job using LoGH as an example, supreme troll.

Anime and films are a more sensory experience than books. Books are completely intellectuals. They deal only with ideas. Nothing about them touches your senses, whereas films/anime aim also to appeal to your sense of hearing and seeing.

That doesn't make one medium better than the other. Stories that work well in anime wouldn't work well in books. I wouldn't want to read a Medabots novel.

Anyone who tell you one medium is better than the other and haven't read a single book in Media Theory can be written off as pretentious.

i wouldnt call it a lower artform.... you can say that like artistically its simpler then doing more realistic art.

but as a form of art, anime is a multi-tiered art form. Art, acting, animation, music, etc. No way its a lower artform

It's not a low artform because art is subjective.

It does not however have any scholarly value.

it's.. different

in terms of reflective and philosophical content, anime can't match up to literature at its high end, it would simply be unrealistic for the medium

it's the same with live action films

that isn't to say that movies and anime can't be profound and emotionally moving, they just naturally lack the complexity of the more 'literary' novels
