This seriously has to be the best episode i have seen so far in one piece.

Vivi's speech to try and stop the ongoing war. Her voice is the best, so full of emotion, even i cried during that part. It was just sad. I am happy that finnaly her voice reached everyone and the war finally concluded.

Luffy final battle against Croc was just awesome. He kicked crocodile's ass and what a damn battle that was. That was freak en epic. I can't describe how amazing this episode was :p

This is it. This is when this show finally transcends what was just a really good adaptation of an amazing manga and becomes great anime. I love One Piece and I love the voice actors but this show has some serious deficits when it comes to animation and direction. But this episode, finally, finally, gives us something truly epic. I love the use of Dvorak's New World Symphony, very fitting. While written about the discovery of America as a "new world", this song fits in thematically with the beginning of a new country for Alabasta perfectly. This ep also showcases Oda-sensei's writing at it's peak. Vivi has finally stopped the bomb but still can't get her people to stop fighting, her voice can't reach them. And even when Luffy beats Croco-boy the war doesn't end, her voice still can't reach them. But because Mr. 0's down, there's no one to stop the rain, which is what finally allows them to hear her voice. Oda's plot lines are so layered and well thought out. And the dude's just getting started by this ep.

I'm guessing "The Will of D" is how Luffy survived the poison, but I guess we'll learn more later.

I feel sorry for Vivi. She's being mentally scarred left and right. Sure all is supposedly fine for now, but she is bound to have some psychological problems because of this.

This episode was FUCKING EPIC.

Now I'm relieved that I finally picked up this awesome anime. I had doubts at first because it's too long. But now.... I'm ashamed of myself for ever doubting this anime.

You explain it so well, i wish i could explain it as well as that. But yeah what you said, this episode really shows oda's true talent in layering a story just perfectly and also bringing such an amazing climax to one of the best arcs in the show.

From start to finish this was easily one of the best episodes I've ever seen in anime. From Luffy's duel with Crocodile to the scene where Vivi see's the bastard flying into the sky, my mouth was agape. Fantastic.

with all that beautiful classical music and truly epicness the whole episode looked like a GREAT performance in a theather.
I was going to give standing ovation at the end.

Thank you, Oda-sensei, I'll never forget this wonderful expierence!

Oda is a greater writer, but he wont make this into a psychological rollercoaster, hehe. Would be too depressing for a shounen. Every problem in shounen can be solved through action and fists:P

Well, this is the only climax that could make justice to the whole Arabasta arc. What made this arc so special for me is that it became a maximization of BOTH the qualities and the flaws of the show at the same time. The totally dragged out pacing (10 episodes of the Straw Hats getting to Alubarna, or that 20 seconds in 11 minutes infamy from the previous episode), the repetition of patterns (does Vivi really have to stumble every time she runs? Is it supposed to be moving?) and the apparent immunity of the main characters to any damage (I know it's part of the discourse and all, but this arc has stretched the limits of Luffy, Zoro or Usopp so many times it almost became self-parodic) were easily balanced by an amazing depiction of characters (as some people said in the previous episode discussion thread, it takes a lot of talent to make you care that deeply about a character that appeared for less than ten minutes in the whole arc (Pell)) and sense of adventure, creativity in the design and interaction of the scenarios and characters, a really effective sense of climax (this episode is the best example) and great transitions from comedy to drama or to action and backwards. The best example of this duality has been Luffy. I literally started to hate him in the desert episodes. His airheadness was so overdone that it became annoying for me. But damn, his duel with Crocodile was epic to absurdly high levels. Every single scene of that fight is probably among the best of the whole series. And his discourse on his motivations sounds so heroic and intense ("I don't want to let her die!").

This episode was one of the best of any series, as it made the huge amount of tension, emotional strength and effort put into this storyline through 50 or so episodes converge in only 20 minutes of pure intensity (the last minutes of the fight, that moment when Vivi realizes Crocodile has finally been defeated, her voice stopping the battle). I don't think this has to mean that the previous stuff was comparatively worthless. It seems for some reason that when there's a new high in this show there is a trend to dismiss all the previous stuff as basic and clearly inferior, and it's nothing like that, I wouldn't have got that far with One Piece if I didn't see qualities and potential in it, and it sort of bugs me when I read that I haven't even reached the reallly good stuff. This episode is the best of the series so far, but as for the whole story I have my doubts. In fact I think I still prefer overall the schematic simplicity of the Arlong arc (quality>quantity) to this long, at times epic, at times dragged out, Arabasta arc.

Now let's see what happens with Nico Robin. It's going to be interesting.

Oda handled this arc so well. The build up that showed how dire the situation is, the villain that the viewer ends up despising (hate even) and the characters that, in surprisingly short periods of time, create an adamant bond with the person that is watching the show (f.e. Pell). If every person that gave One Piece a shot reached this arc, the show would annihilate shallow crap like Bleach and Naruto.
P.S. I've seen all three of these animes. And, you have to admit, story-wise One Piece beats all of them.

not really. from what i've seen, first 130 episodes of naruto>alabasta arc. ss arc>alabasta arc. I don't know, this arc was so dragged out, this one episode couldn't fix it for me. Don't really see what makes this anime better than naruto or bleach. except not as much filler. but it kinda makes up for it by dragging it out so long. just my opinion.

And they really should get someone better than Vivi for the next arcs, she really sucked ass for me -,-

Awesome episode!
Really love the presentation of everything here. The camera angles used were really effective in creating a big, spectacular finale for this arc.

Well, even so, it seems there's still a bit of wrap-up before it's truly over. I wonder what will happen next.

Finally! Probably the best episode of the entire arc. Watching Luffy pound the hell out of Crocodile actually felt pretty good and was one of the most cathartic moments I've seen recently.

HOWEVER, FUCK this long ass, meandering, POS arc. It took them nearly 35 goddamn episodes to get here, that's 3 regular single cour shows, and it wasn't all that good either. That episode with the hillbilly bounty hunter and his two kids was the lowest point of the show so far. I can see how this anime/manga manged to survive for almost 20 years. What could be resolved in one episode is dragged out for nearly three to three and a half episodes.

Also, fuck Vivi too. I like her, she's a sweet, caring grill. I especially liked the sisterly relationship she had with Nami, but constantly hearing her shout about how much she cares about her country got annoying after a while.
