Given all massive praise surrounding this series, Hunter x Hunter was undoubtedly an anime I needed to watch. Time constraints kept me for a while, and admittedly, I am not too fond of Shounen. The tropes and themes embedded within Shounen seem... inherently obsessed with the male power fantasy to say the least.

All my issues with Shounen aside, I found myself genuinely liking this series at first. Gon and company were a very lovable main crew, and I felt like I was already becoming immersed in a long-winded adventure story that would pull my heartstrings down the road. The utter stupidity of his character completely ruined any semblance of enjoyment I could have had with this show. Every time he appears on-screen, the buffoonish author felt the need to make him overtly sexualized and clearly a pedophile. And this all for the sake of being facetious? Utterly repulsive. I suppose it was too easy to just simply make him sadistic.

What really gets me is the staggering amount of favorites this sick character has. How can anyone genuinely like a character that is an actual pedophile that gets off on hurting children? The author, whether intentional or not, is clearly promoting pedophilia through his disgusting attempts at making light of the issue. How he fails to realize this is beyond me.

In short, I am dropping this series. This episode, displaying Hisoka having an implied orgasm was the last straw. Despite its great potential, I cannot in my right mind support a show that makes light of pedophilia.

If the author actively had portrayed him as a villain instead of glorifying him, perhaps I would be able to overlook this. The mere fact he both is treated as such an important character and has a mass fanbase is something I cannot accept.
