I've only watched Perfect Blue, and I found it to be okay. Nothing too mind-blowing, but it was an interesting watch.

Boy, If Satoshi Kon was a hack writer, the rest of the anime industry must be absolute worthless trash then.

A person who was a damn near genius. His work was completely abstract, and unpredictable. There is no telling what he would make if he were alive right now.

He's my favourite anime movie director! I mean, I like a few other anime movies more than his works but those directors have only done one or two movies I really liked. I have like four movies I really enjoy by Kon. I don't really like his manga but I have yet to read Dream Fossil ><

My favourite work from him is Millennium Actress, followed by Memories episode 1 and Perfect Blue. His Christmas movie was also amazing but not worth a rewatch from me.

My favorite director and I consider both Perfect Blue and Millennium Actress to be my favorite anime movies.
I still remember the day he passed away. I was in my first year of university and decided to do an allnighter for an exam I had the next day. I decided to browse the Internet a bit at some time and came across the tragic news. Needless to say it ruined pretty much my motivation and my mood for the days to come.

Agree with this as well. Paranoia Agent had perhaps 2 brilliant episodes a few mediocre ones and a few terrible ones.

Tokyo Godfathers was entertaining and I enjoyed the premise , however part of it was boring and honestly could have been made more entertaining.

My only complaint from the two works I've seen of him is that his writing is a bit .... up and down the place. It's either brilliant or it's a disaster , no in-between almost.

I honestly think he must just perhaps plan out things better before jumping ahead with his ideas. (Just my opinion)

**Edit**
Damn didn't realize he had passed away. However I will still say that I think he should have perhaps just planned his ideas out a bit more before going ahead with them.

He was one of the best anime movie directors. Movies like Perfect Blue, Millenium Actress and Paprika are all-time classics. Even Hollywood has borrowed heavily from his works, like Perfect Blue's influence on Black Swan and Paprika's influence on Inception. It's a shame his career was cut short.

I like Millenium Actress a lot and Perfect Blue was pretty good. Paprika didn't do much for me. I was fairly disappointed in it, I expected better. I'll probably watch Tokyo Godfathers when Christmas hit, and Paranoia Agent at some other point.

Pure genius. The way he portrayed his work was one-of-a-kind. In my opinion, his best work was Perfect Blue as it brought everything that he was known to produce in one movie. Sad he is no longer with us.

It's bad cause I said so.
It's natural for a person to deny he's a failure as a human being. That's why he searches for somebody who is more miserable than himself. That's why so much animosity exists on the internet. Those who aren't able to find a more miserable person, turn to the internet and call other people losers, even though they've never met. Just to make themselves feel superior. isn't that pathetic? There's a sense of security that comes from speaking badly of someone else. But that isn't true salvation. — Tatsuhiro Satou

Aside from that retarded tale episode in the police office, I thought the first half was pretty good.
But then... the second half, the simple fact that you can skip 90% of it shows how stupid it was, I don't understand how can people defend that.

If WD doesn't want to watch some shows because dislike of genre then he doesn't have to but obviously he can't say anime in those genres are bad. It's a double edged sword, I can't really say that long running battle shounen are shit.

You could skip 90% of the first half as well, and that doesn't make it any worse. I don't know why people perceive such a huge difference. The only difference between the two halves really is that

Come on, you know that's far from the only difference. The second half is full of random cases with random characters and it's full of pretentious and crappy analogies/symbolisms about things we already knew or suspected.

And no, you can't skip the first half.

The first half is full of random cases with random characters as well, and as far as I know the "pretentious" and "crappy" analogies/symbolisms don't simply start to appear at the second half, they are an intrinsic part of the whole series. The only other difference I can point there aside from the mentioned is that Kon becomes more explicit and over the top in his comedic side. So episodes like

I highly advise you watch Millennium Actress and Perfect Blue as those are probably his best movies. Paranoia Agent is really good too along with Tokyo Godfathers.

I didn't dig Paprika at all, but that's just me. His style is very unique and easily identified. I'd recommend any of his works simply because of how much his style influences the stuff he creates.

Satoshi Kon is my idol. I have watched all of his films, Paranoia Agent and Memories. He is a God. I think he's true only successor is Yuasa. And he is better than Hayao Miyazaki. Still hopelessly waiting for his last film to be completed by Madhouse. Can't say enough great things to him.

Isao Takahata is always my favourite. But we're talking about Satoshi Kon here. I love Paprika because of the atmosphere, it was intense at times and mild at some other, the changing of pace was masterly done. His other films are really good as well, perhaps too good. I did not like Paranoia Agent as much because I have a dislike for series due to the story gets stretched out while it could be done with in a shorter time and made more impact, yet there's one episode that was absolutely fantastic and hilarious, you'll know which one it is when you'll see it.

Have not gotten round to see Millennium Actress yet. It's his last work I haven't seen so I'm kinda putting it off. Also read the manga he created. Opus was really good, on par with Uzumaki imo.
