I prefer the small encoded files since the quality is nice but the size is small like even the 720p one is only take less than 100Mb (84Mb-100Mb) because my storage is at its limit now, I usually download 480p for most anime but for Hunter x Hunter I download the 720p version

1080p because I don't use a shitty monitor that shitty people like to use

Me too. Small encoded is love, small encoded is life.

So sorry I'm such a shitty person that I like to use a monitor* that doesn't make non-1080p anime look like shit, because not all anime is even available in 720p let alone 1080p.

Not with Japan's low budgets, time-crunched production schedule, and old technology that they're hesitant to upgrade. Typical TV anime haven't even reached 1080p. Besides, there's no 4K physical media (and there may never be), so even if we saw 4K anime created and broadcast, you'd have to make a tradeoff: 4K TV versions with censorship, station logos, animation errors, and broadcast messages vs. Blu-Rays downscaled to 1080p with fixed animation and decensoring.

My only 'store' of anime is my DVD/BR collection.
When I download episodes they're deleted after watching.
There is no such thing as shit taste. Only idiots who think everyone should have the same taste as they do.

Typically 720p, but 1080p if I like the series enough to archive it.

720p. I will store certain things at 1080p providing they aren't upscaled (Even then there are exceptions). Redline, for example, is a movie you absolutely have to watch in 1080p. Its hand drawn beauty demands it.

480p when I can't find any HD version.
720P for almost everything
1080P when for movies (like Kara no kyoukai etc,), BR (mostly for enjoying the uncensored version xD) and some series that I love.

many german sub groups offering 720p 10bit or only 1080p 10bit but i think 720p 10bit is enough. i really cant see the difference.. only 720p is half the size of MB and i can save a lot of GB's and dont need to rebuy every 1-2 years a new external hdd. :p

720p if I'm downloading multiple episodes at one time.. if I'm just downloading 1 or 2 at a time, then 1080p.

If I'm downloading whole shows , then its never 1080.. the download would never complete with my connection speed

Usually I download 720p but I'm about to start watching anime on my 32 in soon so 1080p it is. If the series is above a 7 for me I'll keep it but I delete 90% of the shows I watch per season anyway.

On my computer none since I'm nearly out of space lol. but I download on PS3 on full 1080p if they got it or download the highest they have.

Highest quality available, always. 1080p is what I prefer. The difference between 1080p and 720p on a 46 inch TV is huge imo. If I just had a computer monitor, I'd probably only do 720p. 1080p does take up a ton of space though, I've used 6 TB on anime alone.

I used to download anime but in the end I would just pile up too much anime and wouldn't watch them so I deleted the majority. I mostly stream (can you recommend me a HQ site) or when I download I do it mostly in 720p or 1080p if it's a HD movie.

I get 720, since I just put them on a 64 usb key then I watch them on my TV.

After I'm done they stay in my 2 TB hard drive unless I don't like what I watched (kinda what is going to happen to Shonen Hollywood in a few minutes.)
I ship things I want! Why? Because it's fun!

i hope in the near future fractal video compression becomes the next big thing in video compression because fractals are like true vector images that are resolution independent so one video file to rule all resolutions

I tend to go for the highest quality version I can get. Consequently I have about 400gb at the moment (used to be closer to 600). Half of that is my mass collection of all things Gundam, the good and the bad.

Haven't heard of fractal compression before but if anything is the next big thing, i reckon it would be H.265 with the ridiculous small file sizes and high quality video compressions but with painfully slow encoding times as of now. I tested it myself without using any avs scripts and i say, i am very impressed and it sure lived up to the claims.

H265 still suffers from blocking artifacts because its just an upgraded H264, by 2015 look out for Daala video codec its base on lapped transforms that will remove any blocking artifacts and that will be a game changer for the mean time

but ye the holy grail of video compression is still fractal video compression and computers right now cannot encode with it yet

I just did a quick google on Daala and well, i will be damned. Hopefully, by 2015 or 2016 we can see some real applications regarding Daala.
