Wow, it is the best episode this far, and it also seems like the background has improved.
I think that the way that Soyon died was really brutal, sad too she was eaten like a fish by a bunch of sharks /: poor Erin

Yes. This ep was truly sad indeed. Sucks that she had to die too.
and..somewhat cool, the technique she used, I want to know more about that in depths.
Very good ep. Too bad it's still airing, I want to constantly watch this, non-stop Lol

Even with everything that said that Soyon would die, I was hoping till the last moment that she would run... She wouldn't do that for Erin to be able to live peacefully, but still ;-;

Great episode. Kemono no Souja Erin is truly a children's show :D

Alright, jokes aside, we rarely see such good characters' death nowadays, it was really well-executed and emotionally strong. I'm just enthralled by the overall atmosphere and direction of the show, maybe I should raise it score a bit?

T_T. Knew it would happen but didn't want it too >_<. That technique she used was pretty neat, wonder why it's not allowed. Hope they go more into that.

This was definitely the best episode by far, but my question now is with 43 episodes still left, what could they possibly do without being excessively boring?

Man. I cried straight through this ep and all the way through ep 8. Out of every anime I've seen, I don't think anything could compare to the sadness caused by a little girl seeing her mother eaten alive.

I was thinking that her daughter might save her until the very last minute. I guess her mom already accepted her fate and she decided to save her own daughter instead. Anyway, this episode is the best so far.

great episode - but I really don't think the cheery OP music fitted the death-scene :S

Very sad episode. This has to be one of the best done death scenes in an anime I've seen in the past few years. I really wasn't expecting the mother to do a hand whistle and control all the Toda. That was pretty unexpected.

I was thinking the same thing. Even though I knew she wouldn't run, I still wanted her to prove me wrong. I cried through the whole episode and then some. T_T One of the best anime death scenes ever. Brutal but great. T_T

Wow... I'm speechless. Even though it was predictable, this was one of the best prepared character deaths I've ever seen. I don't remember crying this much for one episode since Kanon. T_T

Ridiculously sad ep. Awesome though. Really looking forward to the rest of the series.

Soyon needed to die, though, so that the story could actually go somewhere, as much as it pains me to say that.

Executing someone because the beasts in your care died, what stupid reasoning is that! They should know animals in captivity don't do well. Instead of killing the doctor wouldn't it be more productive to try to figure out what happened.

Poor Erin, I think it is a sad episode not enough to make me cry though as I know from the beginning that Soyon will die.

Oh, god. That was heart wrenching. ;_; I can't believe that the punishment was execution. What kind of BS is that?! How does that help anyone?! *RAGE*

Anyway, what Soyon did at the end by saving Erin was pretty damn awesome.

It was a cheap trick to kill a main characters mother just to move the viewer.

Damn. Hated it. I'll never forgive the director.

T_____T Pooor Erinnn. But thre must be some mysterious way Soyon survived, right?

Damn damn damn. I hope Erin finds a way to revenge, and kills that bastard soldier, and all stupid Toda hurting assholes. Just kill em all.

I don't think anyone would think less of you for saying so; you're right. It was necessary...

... but that doesn't make it any less sad! This has to be one of the saddest anime episodes I've seen in a very, very long time. Yes, it was great. It was also terribly... depressing. Erin must be beyond traumatized, after witnessing her mother die by being eaten alive. (Sort of? Seemed like the Touda carried her too fast to actually see, but still. Darn.)

The next episode looks promising, though. The old guy in the preview is probably just what Erin needs at the moment, I'm guessing.

awesome episode <3 I'm really enjoying this anime! Just a bid sad that a lot of people will be turned of by it since the first few episodes are rather slow paced.. but that's also what I like. I really love the settings, the animation and the sound. =)

Does anyone know the name of music/ost when Soyon was pushed off the cliff??

Yup, if you compare this to our main stream children show. Lesser kids will be ignorant of the real world.

and I'm assuming she was stab beforehand and that's why she did not go with Erin (no blood... truly a kid show).

Soyon was a rare character seemed like real mother in a fiction.
It makes me sad more than usual stories.
I really wanted her to ignore headman and other things, and to escape with Erin.
When Eriin cry out Okaa-san repeately, I shed tons of tears.
Great episode.

Great episode, really sad. :(

I wonder who that person with green eyes/hair was. I mean obviously he was part of the mist people, but he seemed to have a personal connection with Soyon.

Oh the injustice...

Still a little surprised that this would be labelled as a kids show. While nothing is "graphic", it leaves a lot to the imagination.

Yes, I may terrible for saying this, but in all honesty the repetitive yells, albeit justified and completely reasonable, that lasted through almost the entire episode ruined the moment for me. All I could hear was Erin yelling her name.

and I feel kind of terrible for agreeing with this. I think it would have more impact if a few of the scenes has been a little quieter.

Anyway I did not cry. Sorry to say that Soyon never grew on me...but this was brutal for sure.

* Spoiler for Attack On Titan anime ahead *

Doesn't this remind you in a way of how Eren's mother died in the first episode of Attack On Titan? it was kinda the same way! how ironic and sad... They were both eaten and both were looking back while someone was carrying them and running away... Such a sad scene for both anime, but at the same time what coincidence that both have it in a very similar manner, and both protagonists have similar names.. Erin and Eren lol.
