It is most likely artistic manipulation, and their general intention, but honestly, take a look at your average woman in real life, then think about this... and I immediately lose touch with reality. I am not obsessed or strange, but I have almost no attraction to real people. |

| It's actually more normal to see them that way, they are purposefully made without human faults. They don't even have pores or body hair whatsoever (unless it's a running gag for the character in question), let alone bigger (and smaller but more noticeable) issues. I mean just for one massive example that I just kind of mentioned, anime characters have one perfectly solid piece of skin. Not only is it all that one perfect shade all around - but it's fully filled in and consistent. Without pores, veins, wrinkles (such as on your finger's knuckles), hair, discoloration, etc they come off like porcelain, which is much more attractive to people (that smooth look of their skin). Real people aren't just imperfect - they're also inconsistent, and inconsistency is unattractive to people. Basically, the further you get from reality while keeping them human, the more attractive people become. Kind of like how the jump from DVD to BD porn shocked a lot of people, and not in a good way. The quality was so high in the BD porn that you could see TOO much detail of the girl and it's kind of gross that way. In person you don't have camera zoom and are too busy anyway, it's different on your tv or monitor. |

| Anime characters are pretty much designed to be flawless in a way that reality can't much, so it's not that strange. There's also some specific artistic beauty to them. That being said, they're so different from real people in the first place that it's hard to even compare the two, so I don't really feel affected by it in my daily life. |

At least anime characters are non-existent in "real life" and can't technically be had by anyone, so pure sexual appeal is much higher IMO. IRL I don't find girls that are not virgins (Especially ones my age) attractive mainly for the reason that they let some guy fuck them and gave up on staying together or made a poor choice and he cheated/whatever to her. This is one of the reasons I fucking hated high school, because that's all it was is horny teens and grinding all over each other. Every week was another story of some stupid girl that thought her 15-18 year old boyfriend loved her then had sex and he left her a few weeks later. I honestly don't care what she looks like as long as she's got a decent personality and isn't a big slut. I know I'm not perfect by any means of the word, but damn if I won't stay loyal to someone I actually love. This is one of the main reasons I love moe shows, and anime in general. Most archetypes are enjoyable and character designs are pleasing to the eye. Also any show with moe characters (Pretty much everything nowadays even the serious shit) are going to have characters that you'll absolutely adore. Possibly even obsess over, as that's the point.
