| I think you find the answer to this in the fandom. The extremes of a material will become the face of it, and that is what we see here. If there was ever going to be a way to better create a reputation, it would be through a more relaxing tone from many of the hardcore enthusiasts and an ability to spread out anime in general to the public. But it would have to be gradual. Force feeding does nobody any good. |

| Cultural trends seen in anime are foreign to everyone outside of Japan, so people think strange/different=gay. Also, obviously the typical stereotype is that all anime is nerd porn. Well, they're not exactly far off a lot of the time. How many anime can you name w/o a hint of ecchi, rape, or something along those lines? Also, believe it or not, beating off to a crappy drawing is generally looked down upon in most cultures....except maybe Japan lol. Also, compared to something like Disney, anime doesn't appeal to a large family audience and has far inferior art and animation. Fact. Also, Disney makes tons of films, while a massive amount of anime is in a series format; not exactly sure if that has something to do with it, just thought I'd throw it out there. I think why shows like Pokémon and shit were so popular is because they were appropriate for children, had a reasonable dub and didn't so obviously contain countless Japanese cultural influences. They made it fit for all nationalities to relate to. That and it was like crack for kids. I feel anime is less innovative a lot of the time. The repetitious themes and scenes you see in anime are unrivaled by all else. It gets fucking annoying. |

| I've always heard people say all anime and manga are too childish, others say it's too weird. I disagree with the people who said it's childish, but if they'd watched Boku no Pico as their first anime series, I would totally agree on the weird part of anime. |
