Hey ! Who was surprised when Kaoru's father showed up ?
I was so sure there'd be some twist about him being dead while Kaoru was still waiting for him to return !

You know, i had my doubts about this show, since it's slice of life. Slice of life never went too well with me. But i really like this show~ Hell, even this huge love triangle doesn't bother me~ I cant wait for the next ep~ :3

Also, i have my bets that Yuriko is related to Kaoru somehow. She looks like his mother in the old photo. :/

This is one of the rare shows where the drama isn't stagnant. The characters are realistically impulsive.
Didn't like how Kaoru was sort of mean to Ristuko but then again, he never took her as a friend so it's understandable. Ristuko is sort of stuck in between. She wants to have Kaoru as a friend and she is in love with Sentarou.

Really want to know why Kaoru's mum left him as a child. She looked so guilty and those the tears of regret. Cannot imagine a mother living away from a son or vice versa.

Excellent episode as usual. Perfect. AND THAT BGM <3333

yes...! there are so many cut scenes that are actually important to the plot. I hope they'll include them later.

They got 16 chapters covered... that's a lot in only five episodes, but the pacing workds. Are they going to blaze through all of the manga? Gee, makes me wonder if noitaminA is a curse or not.

I think Ritsuko was meaner to Kaoru, setting things straight is great, but telling him she'll never forgive him for kissing her? for "taking" her first kiss?... A kiss is something you give, not something you take (I do admit it's bad if you force it on someone, but that wasn't the case here). The fact that she can't understand Kaoru's intention means she's very immature... Realistically immature I have to add, so I can understand her, but it still was a lousy reaction.

Personally I prefer a good fast paced story rather than a diluted masterpiece, it can ruin it. A fast pace makes it easy to watch and rewatch, which can be frustrating when there's too much filling. Of course, a fast pace is ok only as long as the narrative is understandable, but that's no problem here so I have no complaints.

IMO the episodes are going way to fast. A lot of details are being skipped. Scenes seems to be skipping all over the place with no continuity between them. The end of this episode would be at the end of chapter 16 in the manga. A good anime needs to have both slow scenes and fast scenes, just like life.

Ok, no session at all but I still loved this episode. It was quite touching in some parts, especially when Ritsuko and Kaoru talked through the toy telephone... snif. Also, there were some nice songs in this episode, I can't wait to have Sakamichi's OST.

BTW, is quite funny to, after watching an episodre, visit YT and check a song. Lot of comments like 'I'm here because I heard this song in Sakamichi no Apollon' XD

amazing episode that has parallels in my life life in so many places: person you love being indifferent to you but into your friend, giving forgiveness to a parent who has wronged you, and needing your close friend(s) to get through it - this show always strikes a note of familiarity to me...the feeling of real life - i've been there too....sakamichi no apollon does something only the truly great anime can do: create a compression of perceived time so it seems you've only been watching for a couple of minutes instead of a full length show - it's so pleasurable, emotional, and well-paced one loses all track of time...always leaves me wanting more!

Man why does this show always have to put in such emotional scenes :(. i Felt something was kinda missing due to Kaoru and Ritsuko just becoming okay again like that . Also Kaoru seeing the letter of the girl that likes Sentaro in Jun's apartment and hiding it HAHA. what a nice friend :3, though i believe its a matter of time before Sentaro finds out.

I just read chapter 15. You're right. The important part about why Koura's mom left was not even touched in the anime. Again, they are going way to fast with the series and missing a lot of the little things that would make the series so much better. They should either have it one 26 episode series or break it into two like they did with Fate/Zero and Kimi to Boku.
What if the Hokey Pokey is what it is all about?

Words can't express how much I love this episode. It's perfect in every way.
I'm warming up to Kaoru. There's so much character growth. Although he's bitter towards Sentarou as a rival in love, he treasures Sentarou as a friend regardless and took care to hide Yurika's letters from him.

Too perfect. I love this series so much.

Characters have true emotions - they aren't "plastic people" who have got some plans, outlooks and aren't just a background for main characters. And they've got their own five minutes! Not only tsunderes, not yanderes, unnatural bishies.
That makes climate.

Ofc, they're sometimes doing something too fast (like Kaoru, when he kissed Ritsuko) but that's natural - people very often are doing something without thinking.

I really hope that this series will last at this level until the last episode (inclusive).

Definitely an okay episode however I feel this series was really overrated... sad to say but people were praising it so highly so its a tad bit disappointing however its definitely worth watching, just not sure they made such a big deal about it. Anyways its obvious something is going on between yurika and Junichi, wonder how Sentarou is going to take it.

No tears in my eyes - tears down my cheeks.

This show is perfect - has everything you could ever ask for in friends and family. This deserves more than 11 episodes.

Love the bond Kaoru and his mom share; I'm glad they reunited. Sentarou makes things right yet again! Gotta absolutely love that guy.

This series is turning into a mess. The Kaoru-Ritsuko situation is just silly. I thought that Yurika chick was gonna play a major role, but she rolls in-between episodes without a proper role or motive. At first I thought she and Sentarou were gonna hit it off, but that relationship was overlooked for some reason. Then she falls for Brother Jun, but we don't get a glimpse of anything that might have happened between them. And now out of the blue they go to visit Kaoru's mother. Hold on a sec! Where exactly is this story going? What's it about? Everything's happening too abruptly. And for an 11-episode anime, this is very, very bad.

So this was the first episode without any music performed, unless you count Kaoru's "avant garde" performance. And to tell the truth, I actually would count that, because it was the perfect expression of the tension in his heart that was only released when he met his mother.

Yeah, very true. It was nice to see Kaoru meet his mom again.
