I've been reading from ANN how good the second season is supposed to be, and I've always felt bad for not finishing the first season of AoT, so I'll get to it soon. I'm watching Kenshin now because it's on Netflix and I can throw it on while doing other things most of the time. I also just got a PS4 and am taking summer classes, so I haven't had a ton of time recently lol.

So what do you thing you're going to end up giving the second season?

I guess I'm in the boat where everything up to the reveal was ok, but then the quality took a massive nosedive.

And I guess I did that on accident, because I certainly want to finish it. I'm just really busy with a new job I got, and it's a series you need to invest in a decent amount to get any payoff (learning who every single character is). So I'd still recommend it, just get ready to have a Wiki page open to remember everyone.

It's a mystery with about two suspects, has relatively flat characters, takes forever to get to the (obvious) ending, and doesn't have any idea how to structure the narrative in a compelling way. That's at least my opinion, and I know I'm in the minority. What did you like about it?

I'm actually not crazy about that section of One Piece tbh. I find it way to cluttered as well, and I'm also not a person who thinks Ace is the greatest character of all time either. I love One Piece because of the crew interaction, so that's a big factor in why I prefer other sections as well.

The one thing I really appreciate about that part is Oda's world-building. I think it becomes really apparent just how masterful Oda can be in fully realizing the world he's created.

Yes, I loved it. It's currently my second favorite film of the year, anime aside. It takes everything that's fascinating and intriguing about Monogatari and continues to build on Araragi's character in brilliant ways. A must watch. Trying to start Nisi but school has gotten in the way of that lol.

So what's up? How have you been holding up?

That's mainly what I love about it also. Besides how hilarious it can be at times, it's also a pressing commentary on what we even view heroism as in the modern world, and just how much meaning we can give ourselves in life.

And not really tbh. I sorta realized AoT may just not be for me. I wasn't a fan of the pacing and the fact that everyone would yell about everything, drowning out anything actually important going on. I do want to finish it just because of how many people love it, but I also have some other things on my docket as well.

Really interested to hear what you have to say about One Punch Man.

That's oddly enough why I liked it, I guess. There's the conflicts that are resolved, but the vibe I always got from Durarara was that even though the city and the people who live in it are weird, to them, that's their normal. I still feel like there was some character progression through the series though, that there not being monumental changes didn't really matter because it's a series about people at the end of the day. I'm still not a super huge fan of the show (I think it has great moments, but the overall structure I don't vibe with a lot), so I'm surprised I liked the ending as much as I did.

It really is. I can't imagine being this invested in Bleach and liking the ending because you saw two under-developed romances produce two children. Blech.

I've been trying to keep up with seasonal anime this year, and the best thing I've watched is Flying Witch. It's so simple in tone and presentation, yet so perfect in the world building. It's fascinating to watch magic and how it realistically can be incorporated into the real world. This is all animated really beautifully, making it a total joy. The music and voice acting are top notch also. Mob Psycho 100 is pretty good also, yet I haven't seen it come into its own. It's rearing there now, but for the past few episodes, it has seemed One-Punch Man lite.

And speaking of endings to long running series, I actually liked the ending to Durarara x2 a lot. It finishes up on every arc in a fulfilling way, and has this great sense of tension being built up that was in the beginning of the series. It still has some problems with pacing and just how convoluted things can get, but I dug it.

Not to mention how little was actually explained. So, what about the Soul King? What about Urahara? How did Aizen get locked up again? There's so much unexplained in the service of showing the dumb kids. What an unbelievable let down. And how is anyone excited for a live-action movie at this point? One of the worst endings I've seen to any major series. Kubo NEEDS to explain some of this or something more has to happen. There's no way he's actually pleased with this ending.

So far, I think it's half-way decent considering the circumstances surrounding the series ending. I gotta see what happens next chapter before fully giving judgment, but it seems alright. I'm a tad sad Ukitake died, but that's to be expected considering what he went through and why he played such a little role the past year or two. Everything else so far doesn't seem so crazy from what the actually ending could be.

If Yhwach is still alive and kills everyone, that would be ballsy as fuck. I mean, on some level I would like that ending, just to see how crazy things could get. I'm predicting it will be Ichigo, whose now become as powerful as the Soul King who's coming to see Rukia.

The "special announcement" really fascinates me. I doubt it will be a return of the anime, considering the show was canceled in Japan for how low the ratings got, so maybe a continuation or spin-off of some sorts? Will be interesting to see.

Shueisha is a business at the end of the day and all they care about is money. Don't get me wrong, they're fucking over the fans big time here and showing how little they care for them once the cash starts to drain a little bit, but it's nothing I'm super surprised by. Maybe because I haven't followed the series as long as you, but I feel that most of the blame should be placed on Kubo. He's probably been told before by the company to hurry things up, and just now their pulling the plug. I can't wait until he gives his side of the story on this issue, or if he'll ever admit to the shit he's been pulling for years now.

I don't really feel that bad for Kubo actually. The sales for Bleach have been dwindling as he's continues to just fuck around with the story over the years. These magazines will cut you off once you're no longer super profitable and are wasting their time. I'm next to certain though that Kubo only knew he had to end the series recently though. There are some threads that hint towards Kubo wanting to flesh them out more (Isshin showing up, Gerald taking a second form, Izuru's fight never being resolved) but has now had to drop them in order just to finish the main story. With the series ending this week, I doubt the ending will be remotely satisfying. It is a shame that so many people will not get the ending to a series they've followed for so long, and I hope Kubo realizes just how much he's fucked his fans over.

OMG have you heard about how Bleach is now going to end at Volume 74, so basically there's 5 move chapters?!?!?! Wtf Kubo?!?!?!?! There's no way at all he can make a satisfying ending with that short of a period of time. I mean, god damn there will be some bs happening in the next couple of weeks.
