Well this is interesting. Elaina meets another new character during her adventures..this time an princess in a castle. What's more interesting is that this this princess has magical abilities of her own and even capable of fighting a monster.

The setting also seems to be a desolate place of destruction, a contrast to some of the more elegant places in the show so far. I'm actually impressed by the level of magic used this episode.

Well looks like things where not what they seemed, but well a girl living in luxury in a burned downed city is pretty suspicious in the first place.
The part that Elaina told at the start of the episode was a bit of a spoiler for what was going to happen.
It was a sad story and the ending of the episode didn't make things better.

I guess it's a good example that helping out doesn't always improve the situation.
Unless you think living in a delusion is a good situation.

Elaina is funny as hell, I was dying when she basically told Mirarozé “I’ll cheer you on from a safe distance, cause this ain’t got shit to do with me” lmao. And for good reason, it was obvious Mirarozé was on some evil stuff, even more apparent when her dress turns black during the fight.

Two beautiful and sad episodes back to back. Loving this style of storytelling. 10/10

So Javalier was the father... damn that end was pure dementia.
The quality of the animation was just beautiful, even the fight with the fire, swords etc was just absolutely great to watch.
Lol I thought that Elaina was not going to help once again but at least she helped to dig the hole

Holy crap, that was insane. I'm pretty good my ass, you went elemental and Gilgamesh on Javalier. Those action scenes were *chef's kiss*. And of course, a dark theme, we should be aware of that by now. That this isn't the kind of show you're expecting, based on the title and the cover.

Fantastic episode, loving the series so far, looking forward to the next one.

Great episode.

Mirarose is crazy strong, to think she'd just straight up go full Gate of Babylon on Javalier, that was insane and absolutely brutal. She must've really resented her father for what happened. Based on the flashbacks, it sounds like even the kid wasn't spared. Her rage is understandable but it's a shame that an entire kingdom had to suffer for it.

Elaina overjoyed and getting all comfy on the bed was so precious. <3

That ending though, Mirarose. Can't help but feel bad for her. She didn't deserve it. :(

Another great episode s usual. After reading volume 1 of the light novel, I could say that the material covered there was done pretty damn well. Mirarosé simply annihilating Javalier gave off massive Gilgamesh vibes and it was gruesome as hell, and the desolate setting was a nice addition because Elaina’s usually traveling through places that are thriving and bustling with life. Plus we get to see more Elaina, which is always because of her refreshing personality and her learning more about the world as she goes. This series needs more love personally. It’s definitely AOTS material for me, and anime like this are usually what makes the next several fridays worth it for me. Can’t wait for next weeks episode.

I am the bone of my sword.

The Princess turned her father into a monster and made him eat his own people. Then went all out on him and killed the King.

This episode was about a revenge story, the King executed the Princess’s lover because they weren’t in the same class. That made the Princess hate her father and she wanted her father to feel the same pain.

We're now in a destoryed war-like driven city. One building is left standing and we are introduced to Mirarose.

"Will I gain anything from helping you?" — Elaina

We're now starting to see her true character. Last episode, she didn't help the guy being absorbed into the plant. And is reluctant to help the Princess on a quest to defeat the beast named Javalier.

Though she did help out anyways, by preparing a trap. Elaina is very logical, cautious, and leveled person and able to pick up on the smallest details quickly. A great trait for a lone traveler.

Love is a powerful emotion. Having to watch your significant other tortured before you eyes would make anyone feel incredible pain and agony.

Elaina notices a problem with Mirarose, as she's acting a lil crazy by preparing dinner for those who have died. She books it.

Another amazing episode, but it just had a sad ending again. This show doesn't pull any punches, reminds me of Grimms Fairy Tales, where there's a cautionary tale in each story and many don't have happy-ever-after endings, like the last 2 episodes. I tend to like light-hearted fluffy shows, but it's nice to get something different every now and then.

I really admire the character designs in this show. Mirarose was so beautiful and that red dress she was wearing suited her. The animation was well crafted too, the castle and monster fight looked superb, although the chase was a bit rushed.

So far my show of the season. It's living up to my expectations, but not in the way I anticipated.

This episode was just wow. Quite a dark one.

The princess, Mirarose, turning her father into Javalier was a surprise twist. I understand her anger, her father killing her lover and her child (according to the flashbacks). The people of the city perished at the end which is sad.

Mirarose magical abilities were impressive. Killing Javalier in the most brutal way (Gilgamesh style).

Aside from some Elaina fluff it was quite dark and disturbing. I knew it was gonna take a direction like this the moment I heard it was about a love story. Also lol The princess went Gilgamesh there. Thou overall quite predictable episode tbh.

Eh, guess this anime is just not for me.

Already had problems with the last episode, and this episode was just so not very interesting that I realize it's time to let go. For the entire episode I was just "mmkay?". Considering Elaina doesn't really do anything as she's just "an observer" then it's just a bunch of random stories with random characters about random events that I really don't care about.

This is like saying that I want to take revenge, But how many things can I put at stake??

This episode talked about the worst way revenge can be thought out. And, Though this episode was low on animation like shaft's ppt animation. But it was alright.

But, Well, in the last story, Elaina was clinical. In this story, she is just a traveler, and being a traveler is the only thing she wants to be.

That’s the thing with adventure series. It’s about getting to know more about the world and exposing both the light and dark of it. This is what this series does pretty well in my opinion just like how it did episodes 3 and 4.

Yea. I think the biggest problem I had here is that it's entirely episodic and has no connection at all to each other.

An example of an episodic anime I liked is Princess Principal, but that's because episodes expanded on the characters and showed them in action, with cool action scenes and such.

Similarly, episodic SoL/Comedy anime work because they don't rely on overlapping story or character development, which episodic anime lack

Quite the sad love story.

A new episode with a new character. For this episode it was quite predictable well at least for me but I still enjoyed it none the less.

Mirarose said she needed help fighting the dragon but honestly after watching her fighting and pulling out her a million swords I was kinda wondering why she needed help. When she got her memories back she did kinda turn into a bit of a psycho but you know she can be whoever she wants cause no one is stopping her.

The animation was sick with a great soundtrack to back it up and the dark kind of atmosphere that just fit together so perfectly.

Awesome episode :)

Much better than the last episode. This got especially dark right at the end, although I already had a feeling that the dragon was the father anyway...the explanation nailed it for me though.

This time I couldn't blame Elaina for hightailing it out of there, lol. The princess was clearly a much more powerful witch than she was, and also pretty fucked in the head. She was prepared to see an entire kingdom of people die to get her revenge.

I like the dark tone. Her world isn't peaceful and she can be killed in no time if she's careless.

This anime has the basic definition of a good adventure. Having your life at stake into the unknown.

Not as good as the last episode, but I enjoyed it. I think I've got a grasp of what this series is and going to be now. Each episode teaches a morale in which the conclusion is alluded to at the start of the episode. Today's morale: revenge is self-destroying.

A great way to summarize the show in a couple of sentences.

After seeing 2 episodes I had the impression we are up for some wholesome adventure, but turns out the last 2 had a very dark twist and tbh I can't blame Elaina's choices at all in any of them. I feel like what the show is doing so far is fantastic and I am really enjoying the fantasy aspect of it. I hope they keep up the level of quality with this kind of episodic storytelling.

After watching this episode, I was like, "uh, so what?". Okay, let's drop the moment about the discussion of the upcoming battle (although, somewhere in the distance "Hava Nagila" played) - the story itself feels torn. As if they took one of the Grimm Brothers' fairy tales and very crudely adapted it for show.

The fight had a bunch of stills and weird transitions, but overall it was still a pretty great fight, I enjoyed it. As for the story, I like how this time around they made Elaina's motivations more clear, if there is danger and shes not being compensated she won't fight and there is nothing wrong with that. She is under 0 obligation to save anyone she just met and had no prior relationship with, I would just quickly get up and leave as well if I realized this new person I met was crazy lol.

Okay, now i REALLY don't get it. Tried posting about ep3 but the forum was broken so i'll involve my episode 3 thoughts too. It was a nice show till ep 3, if a bit weird (who sleeps with a random person you just met?). Ep3 made NO sense. I don't mean not trying to singlehandedly dismantle the institute of slavery, no, although it was weird how she first helped her a bit with the broken dish and then said she doesn't want to know what happens to her (so why'd she help her? petty momentary gratification?), but i REALLY didn't get why she didn't try doing something about the flower field... That smug 'praise me more' sounded really scummy instead of charming after that ending. And now this. The only reason i could think of not doing anything about the flower fields is some preachy shit about not wanting to change natural order or something, but now that she got involved with the princess this episode... I don't know WHAT to think. Like, what's the point, the moral of the story these last two episodes? Its just random bullshit as far as i see. Even singlehandedly freeing the slaves, or just that one slave now sounds less delusional, because i don't think its less risky (immediate threat AND reputation threat) than getting involved with a crazy princess who destroyed her whole fucking country with her dad's hands, then killed her dad (a fucking king!) too? Also is there no thermal magic to help her against the cold? Or is there some unspoken witch rules that forbid her to get warmer clothes and/or start a fire somewhere instead of stopping in a fucking warzone? My score for this show's plummeting from 'great' (first 2 episodes) to mediocre pretty fast...
