THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
The animation was a bit weird this episode for some parts.
Momo wants Momiji to become her brother that will surely make him happy.
oh, we got a glimpse of 'that woman' this episode.
Damn that rooftop scene was great.

Another great episode, this time focusing on Momiji.
His sister, Momo, really wants him to be his big brother. I have to say some of the parents of the Zodiacs are messed up in their heads.

I'm not sure if it's only me but I feel this anime is surprisingly good. I just like everything about it, the pace, the character interactions, everything.
This episode was also amazing. Like MOMO-chan, why does it have to be this way...
Also I actually hate the Soma family, feels kinda trash, everything is trash in that family, and watching Tooru trying to fix this, and how helpless she is in most cases, makes me a little bit sad... but I love how she always fixes everything with words.

Every time Tooru cries I cry too. This is killing me.

It’s frustrating that those of us that never read the manga or watched the old anime version are still clueless as to what the conflict really is.

I know the zodiac members have to follow A’s orders and that he’s a bit unhinged but will we ever get to the point? Clearly Tooru will be the savior to all but why and how?

Argh.

Boy, this was one top-notch episode! Easily my favourite of the season so far. Momiji's backstory hit me hard in Season 1 and this just added more to it. Adding the Uo-chan/Kureno affair into the mix added a lot more, too.

Here's to hoping for happiness for all parties involved. Momiji and her little sister keeping tabs on each other secretly is just too sweet, I need to see a heartwarming sibling embrace!

It's amazing how Momiji's father is going to such lengths to protect that family though, it must be said. Unpleasant reckoning from me of course.

Got to see a bit more of klutz Tohru this episode too, lol. Plus that nice little moment with Kyo making up for the extra focus on Yuki last episode, I suppose.

New Op & ED with the stunning visuals is still a hit to me btw and my impressions only getting even better by the week...

And, as always, looking forward to next episode!

Really good episode! I have not been the biggest fan of this show, but I really loved this episode entirely. Momoji's story is heartbreaking and Kureno is one of my favorite characters so far. I cannot wait to see the progress of his story.

Got a break from Yuki crying and ripping my soul to shreds, but then I ended up in tears anyway over Momiji, so there's just no winning this season.

Momiji is so full of love and caring for those around him, it breaks my heart how his family has shunned him and he feels responsible for the happiness of others coming at the cost of the absence of himself. How he still can be so loving speaks volumes of the strength and resilience of his character. It doesn't make it any less painful, though. He is one of my favourite characters of all time, regardless of series, genre, or medium.

I’m crying!!! The Momiji and Momo stuff is just so heart wrenching! And Tohru feeling so heartbroken over all these people who want to see each other and can because they’re still alive, but won’t for one reason or another, just hurts so much. Kureno is also really interesting, and I’m glad we got to see him holding the paper Tohru left.

Oh and that moment on the roof!!!! I love it!!!!

Next episode should be
. At least assuming they don’t move stuff around, I’m not really sure where the quote came from.

The only animal form we haven’t seen is Kureno’s, and that’s because he hasn’t had to catch Tohru when she’s fallen yet. Haha.

So heartbroken but happy for Momiji. The fact him and Momo want a family relationship is so gratifying but tragic that circumstances are keeping them apart. No wonder Tohru was crying this whole episode.....for someone who cannot see her parents anymore, the fact that the Somas are alive but cannot be with/pursue who they want is terribly sad 🥺😭
And man....those tears at the end there look like the tears of someone who does like Kyo🧐🧐 🤔🤔🤔🤔 I mean how painful would it be to be told by the guy you like that he will support you with someone else 🤕💔💔 but lets see!!!! Loving this 2nd season so far.

Yup, another emotional Fruits Basket episode. You can really feel that Kureno is carrying around all this pain that he just can't let out. I think it'll be awhile before anything happens on that front, but maybe there's still some hope for him and Arisa down the road.

This anime just gets better and better and better.
How do you even manage to top every week. This anime has to be the AOT, Man!.
Everything about this episode was just perfect. The feels train never stops in Fruits Basket.
Momoji and Uo are two of the best characters according to me so you know I've cried for the whole episode!
We get see klutz yet determined Tohru yet again this episode!
We get to see a Mysterious woman. I feel she's shown before with Kureno(confirm?) but the fact that Tohru identifies her voice i just can't remember if i know this character.
The disappointing voice of Kyo when he asked if tohru had a crush on someone was good and that he said he'll help tohru out if ever she has one was just wholesome. Seeing Tohru cry after such a troublesome day and Kyo being there for her was heartwarming. The ED got me even happier. Just how good are the OP and ED for Fruits Basket!
Anyways excited for the next episode

Yeah he did. We know Kureno is the Rooster, but we haven’t seen him in animal form yet. Which is what the poster asked about, or at least how I took it.

But yeah, we know all the Sohma zodiac characters now, but we haven’t see the rooster form.

i just can't respect momiji's dad, he just places all of the responsibility and guilt concerning their family's happiness on his son, and fears him getting even a bit closer to his sister, i mean, she might be able to understand the predicament and nurture a relationship with momiji if they just let her in on the zodiac situation! i guess the trauma with the mom is just way too much.
other than that, kureno is super intriguing and i'm waiting to see more from him, the zodiacs in general, along with tohru and friends are just too good for this world, seriously, what an awesome cast.

The OP is decent so when you compare it to the other OPs and EDs it feels normal. But there is some meaning to all of it as to when Yuki looks at Kyo across street walking alone which signifies that Yuki has started to see Kyo as Person and not just as a trouble. Also every zodiac member shown alone is another symbol for their loneliness despite having each other. And bro you just cant ignore kid tohru and kyoko moments!

Here we got chapters 74-75, about Momiji and Kureno. Momo wants to get together with Momiji, the same as him, but they can't. And Kureno wants to meet with Uo-chan again, the same as her, but he can't.

And Tooru almost got find by Ren, but Kureno saved her. Then at the roof Tooru cries after Kyou tells her he will give her his support when she finds a boy she likes, now why could that be? :P

In the manga at this point Tooru and Momiji are the same height, I don't like it that they still draw him smaller than her, in both this episode and episode 14. He also grew during the summer vacation, not just Yuki and Kyou. :-/

Next episode will be a good one again. They'll go

yeah i get you, the visuals are great, and the OPs and EDs of the series throughout all had great moments, and a ton of significance behind what was shown, i just don't really vibe with the song, which is always my higher priority with OPs and EDs but there's definitely what to like and appreciate.

I am amazed by the maturity Momiji shows. Momo was so cuuute and innocent in this episode, and I like how Kureno listened to Tohru and he looked so handsome.

I cried at the rooftop scene with KyoxTohru, I could totally relate with the pain of wanting to see smn but yet...

The transition from the last scene of the episode to the new ed song is beautifully done.

Just when I thought my emotional wounds from S1's Momiji's backstory were closed, they came with this episode, opening them again... Jesus Christ, this was so depressing ;_; poor Momiji, my boy </3

Kureno ain't forgotten too, poor lad, being a slave for Akito forced to never leave and never interact with anyone. I sure can share the hopelessness Tohru is feeling right now, trying your best to wish for the better of those close to her, even if she knows things aren't going to work... that hit really hard.

Who's cutting onions???

More on Momiji's backstory, that was pretty sad again. To see that Momiji had to stop Violin lessons, simply cause Momo got the same teacher :( so cruel! In the end that story became so damn sweet though, Momo has always looked at Momiji playing the violin. Those tears of happiness T_T

Tohru had a really nice interaction with Kureno at the estate, I love how pure and loveable she is by putting herself at risk of getting caught, while chasing someone else's happiness, because that someone is so dear to her. I mean she came to terms with the fact that she would get arrested. This girl man, everyone needs a friend like this!

This episode adapts Chapters 74 and 75 from the manga covering Tohru sneaking around the Sohma estate to meet with Kureno. As usual, small bits of dialogue and scenes were removed or changed and there were some small detail changes I noticed. Here were differences I noticed in this episode:

-Throughout the adapted chapters at the Sohma estate, Tohru is shown wearing a patterned skirt in the manga. This design was simplified for the anime.
-In the manga, there was an intercom system at the front entrance of the Sohma estate that Tohru attempted to ring up before her hesitance led her to pull away.
-During Tohru’s flashback when Arisa mentioned that her crush was named Kureno in the manga, Tohru recalled her first encounter with Kureno at the Sohma summer house.
-During Kyo and Tohru’s conversation with Kureno, there is a removed line of inner dialogue from Tohru wondering if Kyo wasn’t aware she met Kureno at the Sohma summer house.
-Some of Tohru’s conflicted thoughts about sneaking into the Sohma estate were removed from the anime, both before and during her encounter with Momo.
-In the wide shot shown of Momiji’s bedroom through his window, the bedroom’s contents are different between the anime and manga.
-The flashback showing Momo watching Momiji’s violin playing was added for the anime.
-The opening narration from Chapter 75 involving Kureno and Arisa was removed for the anime.
-The flashback of Momiji giving Tohru directions to Kureno’s residence was shortened for the anime, removing a line where Momiji told Tohru to stay in the bushes as much as possible.
-The bushes that Tohru hid in to hide from a Sohma maid were not present in the manga.
-During Tohru’s panic to hide from others at the Sohma estate, there’s a small bit removed from the anime showing Kureno becoming aware of Tohru’s presence.
-After leaving the person Tohru assumed was Akito, there’s a bit of the scene removed from the anime where Tohru wondered who was the person whose voice she heard.

Had tears streaming down my face a good bit of this episode - they sure know how to pull your heartstrings in this show! The whole scenario of little Momo sneaking in to watch Momiji playing violin, and wishing he could be her big brother because “he looks just like Mama” just broke my heart. And then when Momiji was so happy to hear that Momo had taken notice of him - waaauuugh! I have to say, I was terrified that Tohru was going to take Momiji up on his offer to bring her to see Kureno, when we already know how awful Akito was to him at the beach house. But sweet Momiji only thought about how Akito had hurt Tohru. And lovely Tohru didn’t put him at risk, even though she was terrified herself. I love both of these characters so much!
So grateful Kureno saved Tohru, and that he picked up the paper. I’m afraid Arisa picked a really hard-to-get crush; Akito keeps Kureno on such a short leash, but here’s hoping it will work out for them one day!
And ahhhh - how hard must it have been for Kyo to say he’d help Tohru if she ever had a crush on someone, when he loves her so much! But I’m pretty sure she has similar feelings, and that’s what caused those tears to fall.
I just want to hug all these people, and send Akito to some underground dungeon forever.

Kyo saying that he'd help Tohru with her crush no matter who it is shows how much he really loves her. True love doesn't have room for jealousy.

So much pain this episode. Momo, Arisa, and Kureno trapped by their love for those they are forbidden to see. Momiji trapped by this as well. Tohru trapped by her love for her dead mother. Kyo trapped by his love for Tohru but knowing that they'll eventually be separated when he graduates high school. How clear it is that the relationship between the zodiac and Akito is a curse, not a blessing.

First time Momiji appeared I though he was kind of annoying. But since then he's become one of my favorite characters, maybe just second to Shigure.

Every episode that focuses on him even a little bit breaks my heart and my eyes melt! This one was no exception of course. And Kureno seems to be so cool. I hope we see more of him soon.

Tohru's kind and caring nature is what makes her such a good and reliable person, but that is also something that can really bring her down. She cares for other people a bit too much to the point she ignores her own needs/problems =(

Momiji, my selfless son. I wanna hug you so bad ;_;
To this day, I still haven't cried with Furuba but I'm quite sure that seeing him finally performing in front of his little sister will definitely destroy my heart in the most wholesome of ways.

This said, it was another fantastic episode overall. Tohru sure took a huge risk at intruding into the Sohma estate but in the end, I'm glad she managed to give some kind of comfort to both Momiji and Kureno.
Regarding Momiji's case, Tohru crying was so heartbreaking to see. She can't see her beloved mother again and knowing that these two siblings have the desire to see each other yet they can't because of shitty circumstances sure was sad as hell. As with the other characters, I hope Momiji can find his happiness and have this little violin concert sooner rather than later.

Now on the other hand, I'm not feeling Arisa's infatuation with Kureno just yet. Her crush on him a few episodes ago felt so sudden I'm not that convinced about this sub-plot anymore but anyways, let's see how this complicated romance will play out. Hopefully, she won't end up getting hurt in the process.

And that rooftop scene at the end... simply fantastic. Kyou saying he would unconditionally support Tohru with whoever she falls in love with... man, that's true love.

Tohru's kindness is contagius. The reason the Sohmas care so much for her is because she is the type that gives her all to support them like a mother or an older sister. In a way, Tohru was always saved from girls that were jealous of her closeness to Yuki Sohma at school by Uotani. So Tohru approaching Kureno is a way to show how close Uotani and Tohru have always been. But she is also very clumsy, spaces out a lot, and airheaded. So I wouldn't say she is 100% reliable.

But the manga never really went too far in Momiji's ark afterwards. Natsuki Takaya left Momiji's situation unfinished. So I'm hoping the anime can close it.
Momiji has grown up tremendously. He isn't the naive kid from the past. He has matured.

Momiji's backstory really hit hard in season 1, and this just adds to it. Having Momo watch Momiji all this time and have an inkling she doesn't yet fully realise that he is her brother was just too sweet. Especially knowing that Momiji has been looking after her all this time too, even though they had never met or interacted with each other directly. I definitely need to see a wholesome sibling embrace by the end of the series. Momiji's so strong despite all that happened, and is still so full of love and kindness.

I don't fully hate Momiji's father. His mother, yes. No kid should ever be thrown away by their mother like that. But Momiji's father wanted to protect both his son and wife, and so it's understandable that he did what he did. With that, he protected the lives of both. Otherwise, his wife might've successfully committed suicide in the end. But what I criticise is the fact that Momiji's father could give more love to his son. He promised to give him as much love as a father AND mother, but so far it doesn't seem that way. It's like he's prioritising the happiness he rebuilt with his wife and new daughter, while throwing Momiji to the side. Momiji, who went along with this with a smile, deserves far better than that. What sort of kid can do something like Momiji did, and allow his mother to forget her for her sake? That's way more than any other kid would do. He deserves as much, if not more, love than the love both of his parents can give him.

I wonder who that woman was...

The Soma family really is broken and abusive. Seeing Kureno in the end taking that contact information was good. Uo-chan seems to be the only thing he can see outside of Akito.

That was a beautiful scene at the end. A scene on the rooftop between Tohru and Kyo. I don't take any side between Kyo x Tohru or Yuki x Tohru, but seeing Kyo and Tohru there was really sweet and romantic.

I also have to comment that Tohru looks really good in that outfit

i hate how someone is crying every ep now it just shows how much this series has grown (:

the last episodes have been so dramatic hh wow,

so momo has always been keeping an eye on momiji? that part was so cute and momiji's reaction. i love momiji. i'm glad he isn't just some cheerful side character with no backstory. i love how each character in fruits basket has a backstory and a reason for their action. even a teacher was given a backstory not long ago.

i hope kureno contacts arisa as arisa deserves sm more. she's such a sweet friend to tohru and always puts others first before herself.

the part with tohru and kyo on the roof just took me back to the scene in season 1. i love how kyo has grown so much because of tohru. i hope tohru will realise her feelings though (:

These two plot threads of Momiji and Kureno seem pretty separate and awkwardly mashed together, but both were again compelling enough to make up for that awkwardness.

Great episode From Momiji and Momo wanting to be brother and sister but separated by their parents to Kureno staying with Akito although he has the same feelings for Uo that she has for him Wonderful that Torhu is able to bear messages for those who are separated There is a good reason we have not seen Kureno's true form but that will be revealed in time
