I quite like Smith. Bit of an odd episode but I guess Shaft wanted to avoid having too much shogi in one episode.
I love the aesthetics the animation the beautiful scenery the snowing in japan

Lel watching Smith go about his morning routine in one go was a bit strange. And a bit anti-climactic with his loss but meh.

Let's see how Kiriyama gets out of this one

anyone know who animated that scene of Smith eating breakfast?
It kinda reminds me of Tetsuya Takeuchi but probably not him.
I probably regret this post by now.

It's really slow this episode, there is not even the little Momo to overwhelm the gray and heavy atmosphere. However, appreciable as an episode.

Man, Gotou reminds me a lot in appearance of Ladd Russo from Baccano!

I loved the breakfast scene.

This episode made me even more curious about Endou's character.

I'm starting to feel that this series has nothing more to offer on the character study/psychological side of things so the latter half will be focused primarily on shogi and external conflicts.

3/5 episode.

Poor Misumi. He ended up getting crushed by Gotou. Weird that Gotou ending up giving advice to Misumi. I didn't take him as that kind of person. Misumi adopting the cat was super cute, and his mini-fit over girls reminded me of Gintoki. I have high expectations for the shogi match between Kiriyama and Shimada, as Shimada is the most popular supporting character (in terms of the number of favorites on MAL), so I am intrigued as to what kind of character he is. I miss my Bump of Chicken songs D:

my favorite type of episode - sports competition, as well as getting to know more people from the shogi world and each of their own playstyle! Fantastic shit!

Lmao that scene with the cat was damn cute

Nikaidou definitely a good friend noticing something is wrong with Rei lately, and wanting to bring him back

Happy that I got to know this because I found the long breakfast scene odd yet very amusing. Smith's thought process after the match about Gotou (what is that manliness? he must be popular with women) was funny haha. The cat! Meanwhile Gotou is an interesting character - after seeing him as a bad guy from Rei's POV he was portayed decent this time

Shimada is also very interesting! I already like him. Rei being WHAM-ed out of his thoughts. And the end card... so cute

One of my favorite aspects of this episode is just how different Gotou is from Smith's perspective relative to Rei's. In this sense, we really see the immature child side of Rei as he antagonizes Gotou to an extreme degree.

That breakfast scene was very satisfying. It's because of that jazzy music too. That just came out nowhere xd. Smith's an interesting dude.

probably the most game episode so far. would love it if i knew shogi more. oh well. it wasn't that bad. maybe because i love too much hikaru no go that i find the games little underwhelming.

smith is so underrated character lol.

Watching Smith eat for 5 minutes was extremely irritating for some reason. It felt like it was supposed to be some sort of gag or reference but it didn't go anywhere and carried on for so long. I enjoyed the shogi in this episode though.

Something I noticed in this episode was that all the players move shogi pieces in a distinct way, Rei always touches a surrounding piece so he fixes it immediately, Gotou takes a lot of space when moving his pieces and so on.

My least favorite episode so far :[ I found all the segments with Smith really uninteresting and blatantly boring, along with way too much recap and what felt like filler
