Anime is really not the most mainstream thing (not even in Japan) or what? So i wonder if we should consider the fanbase to somewhat of a hipster subculture. Any thoughts?

Not necessarily. We're talking about people who consume a certain type of media. Within anime and manga there is definitely a mainstream movement, even outside of Japan.

Where you live can dictate what entails mainstream anime.

Only the ones who didnt watch One Punch Man.

Serious it stops being hipster thing after numerous thousands of people around world watch it or know about it , let alone millions.

No, I wouldn't say so.

Not at all. Hipster are seen as people who watch intellectual things just to show off. Anime generally is usualy seen as the opposite thing, an anti-intelectual entertainment made for kids.

No, anime as a medium is too popular for anime fans to be considered hipsters. Just because most late night anime aren't mainstream doesn't mean anime as a medium isn't. Being a fan of only French animated movies would far more qualify you for being considered a hipster than being an anime fan.

No. Trust me, I've just been called a weeb for watching anime. I get called a hipster for my glasses(Black plastic frames, getting a new set soon) and for my denim jacket that I wear in the fall.
