First onna mushishi I think. Nice episode.
I was sure it's gonna be a sad ending, then I thought it's gonna be happy but it actually was none of these lol.

I really didn’t like Genko in this episode. The village was in a state of crisis and Genko was preaching that they should wait. Unfortunately there was very little time to gather information to inform your decision and that time was up when Genko arrived. Following Genko’s advice would have resulted in the abandonment of the village and possible the deaths of many of its people due to starvation and exposure to the elements. There comes a time when a person has to make a decision with incomplete information and there are also a time where making no decision is worse than making a poor one. The village mushi master knew this and was forced to make an impossible decision and I applaud her decisiveness.

A few things people should remember:
1. The real solution to the problem only came about because of the data gathered from burning the mountain
2. Seven deaths are good considering the entire village was facing starvation.
3. The weed was not going to stop unless someone stopped it so waiting would have caused even more destruction and even more mushi to deal with.
4. It is unknowable if further research would have provided a solution to the problem anytime soon because it took Genko months of thinking to come up with a solution.

These are some really intelligent remarks. But what if the effects of the mushi burning could have been worse? I would not agree that much with 1. tough, it's more like that was the solution to the second problem. Again, the villagers were lucky that the burning of those plants-like-mushi didn't cause an even bigger problem.

Still, it's nice to see that someone can go against the grain in their judgement of the hero's action or actually give arguments for it.

There was a different atmosphere with this episode. The duality between the two mushi masters was fascinating and brought something new to the series.

Ginko is a Godsend, though. I agree with Phaetons_Folly that the village mushi master made the right call, but if it wasn't for Ginko coming up with a solution to destroying the weed, Yahagi would've still lost her life. Afterwards, with the village no longer having a mushi master to guide it (unless she actually could find a replacement so quickly), many more villagers surely would've died to the Kagebii.

Seems that for every time Ginko's presence (or, in rare cases, fuck ups) causes a death that wouldn't have occurred otherwise, his presence saves a life that would've died otherwise.

Still missing the tragic endings though, TBH.

I feel this bittersweet feeling at the end of each episode. I always remember him saying that Mushishi aren't evil or good, that they just exist. But I still somehow feel that mushi are mostly "evil" because most of them kill or damage their surroundings...

Not as good as the previous episodes but still good. Glad to see the other mushi-shi is still alive and kicking though.

Great character development with Ginko. Ginko is like so pro and knows alot. He also knows when to say no, no means no. He tries to help people but they dont want to be helped. He tells people there is a smarter way to deal with things but they dont listen.

Ginko's usually such a cool head, really interesting to see him get angry every so often like he did with the destructive villagers.

One of the better episodes, it had a good vibe. Not a tragic ending either.

The decision making in the situation is really controversial, I too can't say that Ginko was "right" or that the female Mushishi was "wrong".

pretty weird episode

It's like how they can all see the weed. It's not the true form of the mushi, it's how it wants to appear so that people will think it's fire

I like how she was trying to shift her responsibility of looking after the town to Ginko even though this was all her fault for not listening to him lol. How brazen of her. Fortunately, based Ginko was able to help out and even figured out a way to kill the weeds.

"And there it will lie until winter comes." That reminded me of this short story where locusts attack a village and then they burn the crops and everything to survive. In the end, the locusts leave but they will come again. And that fear would remain for a while until they learn to deal with them fully.
Seemed like the story was partly inspired from that. Really liked it. I won't call one Mushishi superior to the other, both are intelligent and did what they thought was the best for everyone.

He's a TRAVELING Mushishi. Of course he knows more than she does about mushi. Bitch please. Ginko is too nice to people. I was half expecting Yahagi to die >.> She owes him. A LOT. He saved her life.

Nice interactions between two Mushishis, I liked how they discovered more info about an already known mushi, it will hopefully be useful in the future when similar problems happen.

They killed the weeds that were killing all the plant life in the area but that led to another problem that actually killed some of them. It's a very mysterious yet interesting thing to see fire burn but freeze things instead of actually burning.

She accidentally breathed in one of the deadly buggers and the cure actually happened to be doing something one shouldn't usually do. It's nice that they got the situation under control eventually.

Nice conflict between two mushishis. This episode really goes to show what happens if a mushishi were to neglect fully researching a mushi before dealing with it.

Wow, another episode with a strong narrative value. In it we find another useful lesson for human society, and it shows how, although the interested parties can be people of intellect, this does not protect them from errors of human nature. Amazingly Ginko on this occasion, his figure is even more charismatic after this event.

interesting episode, definitely had a lot of twists and turns and will admit i got slightly confused on what was happening but i got the gist.
In short, humans (when in large groups) are very uncoordinated and don't use their brain properly. They'll listen to one directive and not question if it's really the best option.
Burning the entire forest was indeed a big gamble, although it semi-worked there was probably a few other options that didn't involve what they did and in doing so caused there next problem.

The episodes keep getting more interesting and unusual the closer we come to an end. This one was very unique because we saw another Mushishi and her own ways of solving mushi problems that don't seem to go so well and Ginko has to save the day.

Actually served her right, burning the entire mountain was no solution.
I thought she would be an affectionate Mushishi having sympathy towards the Mushi. I guess appearances don't matter.

"Things have gotten troublesome, haven't they?" of course.. it's the result of stubbornness.. it's like a disease huh.. a disease that is only cured if we were affected by it's effects.

It's true, when we are desperate and don't know what else to do, we tend to do stupid things, tend to make mistake. I've been like that too.

But the thing that annoyed me was, the woman didn't listen to Ginko's warning, she also initially refused to be helped by Ginko. When things got worse and Hidane started to excrete poison from her body, she wanted to leave and hand over the village to Ginko, saying that she is sure that Ginko would not make the same mistake as her. Doesn't that seem irresponsible and annoying? She refused help from someone, and when she failed, she leaves her "failure" to that person.

But thankfully in the end she was still able to be helped and help her village.

Maybe this was a lesson on ones ego, how people refuse to see things in another perspective or take advice from other people.
