This series is liked by people trying to fit in with the hip crowd. It is Kara No Kyoukai syndrome on steroids, where you have a bunch of people praising it to high heavens yet they have never touched the actual source material to see just how much is of the narrative is not-said and ends up buried during the adaptation because there is the assumption that the viewer has actually read the original material. That's before we touch the cultural aspect which is lost in translation. Characters end up becoming sheets of paper in the adaptation that dribble on with endless exposition about things that amount to nothing and go nowhere, there is no depth or intelligence to the dialogue when it's just missing 90% of the content, the viewer expected to fill in the blanks with what they should already know which evidently they don't know, nor is reading some wiki going to make things look any better. It is barely animated for the vast majority of the running time.

A good number of anime viewers could care less for actual animation. They like interesting stories or things they find coindiciding with their tastes. Who knew that technical aspects interest only matter to a select few.

Whether or not much is cut out by the adaptations, there is more than enough content there. Perhaps you require a full-bodied text from which to gather a moment of pleasure - a kind of obsessive compulsion? But talking of cultural aspects as if a viewer can't understand a properly portrayed humanity is a laughable underestimation of the average person's intelligence.

The constant denial by people who are unable to accept that fans can like shows for valid reasons; these people who have an obsessive need to downplay the obviously evident values to be found in popular shows, now, that is something we should have a thread about.

So basically this is yet another "original vs adaptation" thread.

Don't like the adaptation? Throw the BDs through the window. I like to watch anime and not read books.
Stop the sequels high-ranking stupidity.
Group franchises in Top Anime page.
Because Gintama is just "one" anime and not 5.

Any adaptations tend to be inferior to their source material. This is the unfortunate law. If they adapt everything down to the letter of the source material, either pacing can be off, or just not gonna work in the visual media. It's up to the directors to see how they adapt this, so it's 50:50 how good an adaptation can go. As for animation, it's unique enough. Even though it's not something like...Ufotable's Fate and KnK series animations for example, but most people care for the story and dialogues and emotions. So if they like it, they like it. Haters gonna hate on the other hand.

Lol atleast monogatari is not a generic shounen trope when the main protagonist is zero to hero.

The original op was/is right. There's nothing here but a some gags here and there, some ideas can could have been better explored and way, way too much "fan" service. Hello the "dental scene" anyone.
I am the type of person that watches something I dislike so I have the validity behind me to support what I'm saying.

if you're going into it expecting to dislike it no shit you do lmao. it hardly supports what you're saying.

now go watch Under The Scope's video essays on the monogatari characters because asserting there's nothing here is pretty much confessing you payed no attention and it all went over ur head
