With their story wrote by the same author, both animes are adopted from visual novels with the same name. Focused on -somewhat supernatural- murder mysteries, both stories feature some of the many possibilities which could happen in a period of time.

Both are about a group of people trapped in a closed area trying to find the killer among them.

Both of these anime involve a very simular style. The clothing worn by the characters is very Victorian age, one series taking place during such an era and the other being influenced by said era. Both involve mystery, though Umineko runs more long the lines of actually having supernatural overrtone, while Gosick has a supernatural undertone.

Both have logic and psychological fights and death involved

Both series contain plenty of mystery revolving around mysterious deaths and suspense. Both series' plots are twisted and contain plot holes as confusion and horror spreads as the episode progresses. Both series contain a cast of characters that begin to lose themselves in hopelessness as the murders continues in unfit matters. Additionally, some of the murders are graphic and increasingly violent as the death count toll piles up.

Has a mystery feel to it and both are about finding culprits in murders and other situations

Both are psychological mysteries that became more and more ridiculously silly as time goes on. If MST3K did anime, they'd do these.

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni has a lot of similar aspects to this series, such as; a new boy from the city in a small rural town, yet there is possibly more to compare Shiki to in Umineko no Naku Koro Ni - same maker as Higurashi, and possibly sequelesque. Supernatural aspect in both series' are made obvious from the begining (even the opening), which leads to the assumption unworldly individuals are involved. There is a clear mystery element; creepy, mysterious and agonistic characters (mainly girls) and luxary, stand-out-houses holding harbouring aristocratic people.
report Recommended by Gleam_Queen
They both are about explaining deaths. In Neuro there's this 'demon' solving the mysteries and in Umineko there's this witch who says that the people died by using magic. The guy doesn't believe it and tries to explain everything logically.

I was actually kinda shocked with how similar these two shows were (especially considering the two are different genres). Code Geass and Umineko are both genius concepts, wrapped in mindless and over-the-top violence... with a nice garnish of mind-screw. Code Geass is about one man's battle against a corrupt empire while Umineko is about one man's battle against a powerful witch. In fact, without even looking at the shows as a whole, you could draw similarities between Lelouch Lamperouge/Vi Britannia and Battler Ushiromiya. Both are highly intelligent, though stubborn and arrogant. Both also care about those close to them, and this care leads to some reckless decisions.  read more

- People are trapped, can't get out (in Umineko's case it was in a mansion, Corpse Party's was in an old school) - Gruesome deaths (although Corpse Party is more gruesome) - The culprit are both insane

They're both murder mystery shows that have fabulous shiny butterflies.

When I saw the first epsode, it feels like Baccano! Lots of characters are introduced. And, with same dark and comedic feels to it. No witch in Baccano though.
report Recommended by Lieila
I know that I got interested in Persona via a friend who also liked Umineko - but they both have "darker" themes, and a lot of the voice cast are in both. Ono Daisuke, Ohara Sayaka and Horie Yui all are in the two of these series.

With setting that is a separate island, mysterious murder happens and police isn't an option, so it's up to the cast to figure out the culprit with the confusing clues they got. Both anime have some nice locked room mysteries.
report Recommended by abystoma2
both give you this creepy feeling that is hard to describe unless someone has seen the series, both have a ton of creepy characters, both series tell different stories, though yami shibai does so for each episode and umineko does so in several arcs, beside that both series are series that should be watched alone in a dark room

Strong willed protagonist from an aristocratic family denies the existence magic despite quite obvious involvement with demons/witches.

Both of these series have got personification of sins as "the bad guys".

Zetsuen and Umineko have similarities in terms of witch mystery and tragedy of murder and the incidence of a complicated story.
report Recommended by SevenEleven
They are similar in the sense that both series involve a central character that is "whisked" away so to say to a foreign location and held under the whim of an opposing force. That opposing force causes the central character as well as auxiliary characters to fight for their survival.

These two shows finally make a connection in terms of lore.

Ah yes, my two favorite visual novels and pieces of fiction in general. If you have any interest in these 2 amazing stories i suggest checking the visual novel versions of them, because the anime adaptations dont do them justice. Umineko and Chaos;Child are thrilling murder mysteries with supernatural and horror elements. They both send really strong messages and have an amazing protagonist and cast of characters. What is real, and what is a delusion?

- cool mc - lineage family - main villain wants to kill the whole family - horror themed

Supernatural mystery thrillers, that take part in massive mansions where a creepy family presides: it's not that common a combination but it fits both these titles. There is also a lavish feeling to both, with Victorian-like clothing and a very eerie atmosphere of dread that keeps the viewer guessing at what precisely is going on, as much as it does the cast.
report Recommended by europepact
The atmosphere is different, but they share some similarities: 1. The story progress through time loops. 2. There is a evil witch.
report Recommended by Djerabis
Both shows' start off as conventional murder mystery.
report Recommended by redgrave_zero
They are both mystery animes and are "classic" detective style thrillers but they are quite similar when it comes to the two main characters. In both mystery series the two main characters are in the main focus, their clever conversation, their interactions and how their relationship develops. Of course in Umineko they are against one another to solve the case where in Subete ga F ni Naru they are working together, but great chemistry between them, so good that sometimes the overall plot is forgotten when watching those two´s interaction with one another.

Umineko and euphoria both have very complex stories that leave you with a serious sense of WTF? Umineko may not be as ahem, sexual as euphoria but they both have their share of violence and gore. The atmosphere of both is also similar. Additionally both are based on excellent VNs that are superior to the animated works but are still rewarding to watch. Finally the main female lead of both is visually identical and acts much in the same way. I've seen euphoria several times and think that anyone who enjoyed one will like the other. Beware vanilla scrubs may be put off.
report Recommended by Levi-Strauss
Both are murder mysteries that are presented in such a way that the viewer has very little chance of solving it on their own (take that information as you will). Mouryou no Hako is overall more thought provoking and mature in nature, but it meanders during its midsection and is overly reliant on exposition, which can become tiring. However, the conclusion is a complete and utter mind-fuck in the best possible way. Umineko no Naku Koro ni often puts its mystery elements to the wayside in favor of over the top displays of cruelty and violence, which can come off as a cheap way of  read more

Mysterious and gruesome murders keep on happening while the culprit is still on the loose! It is up to the protagonists in both series to solve the cases before it's too late.

Both of these shows have a witch, and both of these witches are often referred by Witch of Dimensions (or the likes), are presented by butterflies, talk about granting wishes and receiving payments, and both are voiced by Ohara Sayaka.

Both of these anime are gore fest and contain a lot of violence. The styles are similar and there is also the supernatural element.

Both are rather dark detective Anime's with a supernatural twist that makes it a little bit different then the norm.

There are anime out there that are so bad, so ridiculous that, quite honestly, they’re funny. One might classify them as unintentional comedies. Do you enjoy watching Umineko for the lulz? If you do, I present to you, Apocalypse Zero.
report Recommended by Metty
Both have simular, rather gothic art styles with some differences and they feature witches.

Uminkeo no Naku Koro ni and Phantom ~Requiem for the Phantom~ both have excellent plots, fantastic art and great characters. If you like one of them, you'd probably like the other.

Even though these animes are completly different genres, they are somehow similar. They are both have violence, and can be serious at sometimes, and funny at sometimes.

At the first time I get hold on its manga version,I realised that the protagonist Aikawa Shokora have a great similarities with one of the character in Umineko, Bernkastel. They have similar hair style, cat and personality. So,I would recommend Umineko :D
