Synopsis

The people of the kingdom look down on the young Prince Bojji, who can neither hear nor speak. They call him "The Useless Prince" while jeering at his supposed foolishness.

However, while Bojji may not be physically strong, he is certainly not weak of heart. When a chance encounter with a shadow creature should have left him traumatized, it instead makes him believe that he has found a friend amidst those who only choose to notice his shortcomings. He starts meeting with Kage, the shadow, regularly, to the point where even the otherwise abrasive creature begins to warm up to him.

Kage and Bojji's unlikely friendship lays the budding foundations of the prince's journey, one where he intends to conquer his fears and insecurities. Despite the constant ridicule he faces, Bojji resolves to fulfill his desire of becoming the best king he can be.

Perfection is and will always be subjective; but to me, the beginning of Ousama Ranking is pure perfection. That’s the reason I’ve written my first preliminary review, just to tell you guys and to remember how amazing my first experience with Ousama Ranking was. Please note that my score may change in the future, but I am reviewing episodes 1 to 6 – and it’s a solid 10.

For starters, let me make it clear; Ousama Ranking takes place in a medieval looking world and looks like a fairytale. It is full of colour; green, blue, yellow, light brown. I think it’s adorable-looking and what we’d read more

Ah yes, another Manichean story that is taking advantage of- Wait, good characters? An interesting universe? No lines of expository and long-winded dialogues? An great production? What is it?

How can I set Ousama Ranking? Imagine if Yoshiro Kimura and Akihiro Hino in a bar, talks to create a story in collaboration, while Kimura would be in charge of creating characters and Hino a fantastic universe.

That's the only feeling I can get when watching a new episode of this show.

In the beginning the story that Ousama Ranking wants to tell is not original and I'm sure this will turn someone away, I felt that feeling read more

Ousama ranking had almost everything going against it, a very poorly planned release schedule of Oct 15th which made it get overlooked as it got a release date which was a bit late, A very childish and plain art style that made a lot of folk mistake it as a children’s show.

it’s kinda funny because the show is about the underdog’s rise to success, the anime also kind of falls in the same underdog of the season category xD.

It’s hard for people to not get invested in an underdog story, there is always this magical feeling we get when the underdog beats the favorites read more

MODERATOR EDIT - THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS

“This anime has got everything it needs to be called a masterpiece. It's got beautiful animation from Wit Studio.” - not me.

Here’s a description of a minute-long scene from this show:

A guy with a sword and a guy with a spear fight. A sword swing is blocked by a spear’s shaft. Sparks fly. The spear is made of wood. Metal hitting wood produces sparks. Think about it.
Some more sparks fly and the spear’s shaft is cut in half. The spearman throws the useless half away and the fight continues. From the ensuing animation and choreography, it appears that the read more
