Synopsis

Following an accident where Masato Inohara batted a baseball into the school's water main, the boys' dormitory is partially crippled. Until a plumber repairs the damage, the boys have to stay in the girls' dormitory. To determine which rooms they'll be assigned to, they draw tickets from a hat. Unfortunately, due to the limited capacity, some of the boys will have to go without a bed.

Once Riki Naoe draws his ticket, he gets one that forces him to stay in one of the less-than-cozy clubrooms. Seeing his hapless predicament, a nervous Kudryavka "Kud" Noumi musters enough courage to confront her feelings while asking Riki to sleep in her room instead. Despite the rest of the Little Busters incessantly teasing Kud and Riki about their relationship, he stays with her throughout the summer. As they share unforgettable experiences one after another, the two realize that they might want to be more than just friends.

Background

Kud Wafter is an adaptation of Key's visual novel of the same name. After a crowdfunding campaign for its production was launched on July 18, 2017 by VisualArts, its goal of thirty million yen was reached in three days; by September 25, 2017, it reached its final stretch goal of sixty million yen.

While originally set to premiere in September 2019, a change in directors resulted in a one-year delay to September 2020. A second delay pushed the premiere date to November 2020 following concerns regarding the film's quality. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, another delay was issued, moving the film's theatrical screenings from May 14, 2021 to July 16, 2021.

I don't think there's any right way to adapt a visual novel. It's a medium often overlooked by the western anime watching community, but the influences of those early gal games are strong across many genres of anime. Many of the character archetypes we find so common today can trace their origins back to visual novel tropes. The problem when adapting these things, and trying to do it faithfully, is the choose your own adventure nature of vn storytelling. How can you faithfully adapt every route, every choice? You can't, without making some fans angry. Best you can do is adapt the common route, throw ...

Mixed Feelings
Right so let me start off by saying I don't think this OVA is intended for me, Little busters is my all time favourite anime, love it to death along with so many other pieces Key have made, All their flaws included i just love the stuff they make. But little busters is my favourite anime and nothing more, I never read the visual novels, and never really wanted to, it seemed like too much work to try get the ending i already knew i wanted, the rest would just be extra icing on the cake. So my attachment to Kud as a character in ...

I haven't seen Little Busters, but I couldn't care less. And this review has spoilers.

In the beginning they make a melodrama for Wafu (I don't care what her name is, go with Wafu anyway) only for her to say that she wanted to spend more time with Riki. What is the point of this? It had no narrative function that it is really necessary to use drama. This part was right after the beginning, when the boys have to stay in empty rooms in the girls' dorm because their room was flooded with water.

There is one part that was so stupid, I started laughing. ...
