A crowdfunding campaign for the previously planned anime adaptation of Little Busters!'s spin-off visual novel Kud Wafter has surpassed its initial goal of 30 million yen to create a 20-minute OVA. The campaign currently stands at 34 million yen (approximately $300,000) and an extra 10 minutes will be added to the episode if the fund raises 45 million yen, with the end goal being a theatrical release. The campaign was launched on Campfire website by Visual Art's on Wednesday and will end on September 28. A separate project for the international patrons will be announced at a later time.

Slated for Fall 2019, the anime project will be produced by J.C.Staff with supervision by Key, and will be the first part of the tenth anniversary commemoration of the release of Little Busters! visual novel.

Developed in June 2010, Kud Wafter is the eighth visual novel by Key. A PlayStation Portable version of the visual novel was released in May 2013, followed by a PlayStation Vita version in December 2013. A manga adaptation drawn by Bakutendou was serialized in Dengeki G's magazine between March 2010 and December 2013.

but hell, $300,000?! that was impressive the fact that's it crowdfunded..
and scary at the same time
You think that's impressive? Then you haven't seen this one.

They actually managed to reach their $100,000 goal in just an hour and also got over $950,000 at the end of its campaign.

Nekopara was funded by people worldwide, but Kud Wafter is only allowed to be funded by people in Japan. So I'd say Kud Wafter is more impressive if it manages to raise over 100 million yen.

@Kitsu-nee If hey are tight on money can they spare it on storyboards that won't be ever used? It just sounds cheap if you can add episode length as if it was some kind of fabric for drapes.

It makes me seriously question quality of storytelling when length depends on money avaible (or size of time slots for that matter), not the actual story there is to tell... So with more funds they would add another character?

Well, it is an adaptation of existing vn after all, so they probably prepared storyboards for each version, depending on how much they raise in this campaign - with Kud Wafter it'd be easy to make it just a short happy-go-lucky episode with some fanservice for fans, but if it's gonna be a feature-length movie they'll definitely go for some bigger drama.

Don't mind me, just a little upset that this had to be a crowdfunded project in the first place.

I get a feeling that crowdfunding campaign is being a trend recently...

The fuck? Fall 2019? Hope the english translation of the vn gets done before that time...

But it looks like the opening won't be the high-pitched loli voice one ;-;

Fall 2019 is way too damn far away.......

Hopefully it'll reach the 1hr mark. A 20-30 minute ova is a laughingstock, an introduction episode at best.

Wow.... I just know that an anime adaptation requires that much money... You could buy a house for a 30+ minutes OVA.. Lol XD

The wait is long... :/

A Key title that I'll never watch.

Holy shit I don't get it why this get an adaptation. Maybe JC Staff is desperate and now wants to fish out lolicon people for more money.

Hope it'll soon reach extended goals as well :3
